24.01.2022 The expense in any budget that is the sourest to swallow must be that necessary evil; insurance! Sure, making the cost a bit more palatable by reviewing your building, car, contents, boat insurance is a good idea, but who has the brainpower? A simple & relatively effective way to do this is to outsource the research & comparison to an Insurance Broker. A good Insurance Broker will help you decide how much cover you need, provide you with independently researched products fo...r you to compare & choose from & then complete the implementation process with you. 24.01.2022 Welcome to Finspective. Most people didnt grow up talking about money openly; certainly not at a level where our past & future financial decisions were being assessed or questioned. Discussing tax, interest rates, markets, super, insurance and other financial instruments, while important, is also not that motivating; even without the research & administration involved.... We have a different (financial) perspective. Our consultations are about things that really matter to you; spending time with family & friends, overseas holidays, owning the home you want, not working forever etc. The good stuff! Your success stories will be achieved by you, not us. We will be there along the way, showing you if youre on track, educating you on your options, providing you support & taking away the grunt-work. Money is a resource, not a reason for living.
22.01.2022 There are two great states; Victoria & "in the money!" We come across a lot of over-60s who aren't pensioners and as a result, think they have to pay top dollar for everything until they get the Age Pension. This is a myth! It simply takes 5 minutes to access heaps of free stuff across the State (including public transport).... The Victorian Seniors Card (or Victorian Seniors Business Card for those who work more than 35 hours per week) is accessible to most Victorian's aged 60+. Depending on your eligibility, you can access some or all of the following: - Free or concession public transport - Discounts on goods & services from over 4,000 businesses - Exemptions from a fishing licence in Victoria If you found this tip helpful, please let us know in the comments &/or tag somebody who you could use the help. 22.01.2022 Being told to do a budget and save money is a lot easier when you know exactly where your money is going. After all, you dont want a doctor to provide a c...ure without a thorough diagnosis of your health first! Understanding where your money goes is genuinely the no.1 component of a healthy financial household and is really empowering when its done well. Make this task easy, clear and engaging by using a spending app. You can usually find one to suit you, and quite often they are free, feed directly into your bank account & do most of the hard work for you, giving you more time to concentrate on more important things. We personally use Pocketbook at home and have managed to identify spending leaks, budget better & save hours when it comes to tax time. In saying that, there are dozens of great apps around. 21.01.2022 Getting access to your super earlier as a couple has many advantages; the obvious being a tax-free pool of money that you can use for financial (pay off debt) or lifestyle benefit (retire earlier). While there are many factors to evaluate, if youre a member of a couple with an age disparity, consider; 1. Contributing extra to the older spouse &/or 2. Splitting the contributions that go into the younger members account with the older spouse.... 19.01.2022 "I've never been so excited to pay for insurance" was the comment from Steve (pictured) over a pint recently. After pondering this strange comment on the train home, I realised what he was excited about. It wasn't insurance, it was that he had peace of mind. Steve is a regular guy who has some pretty realistic lifetime goals of living in his own home, working on his terms & of course, I can't forget his own slice of serene beauty ("a van up at Bonnie Doon"). We've started by getting the basics right for "his retirement bucket" and also making sure that he can reach those goals important to him, regardless of whether he can work or not. Thanks Steve for coming to us for advice.
19.01.2022 Most Australians are employees, which means that we are likely to pay our Income Tax in advance to the ATO via our regular paycheck. Keyword: Advance. Given youve likely paid more tax in advance than what you had to, there is only one thing stopping you from getting your money back ATO. Hint: You. Your money sitting in the ATO coffers waiting to be claimed is better off in your pocket; perhaps to help with funding your Christmas presents, a holiday or paying off that pesk...y credit card debt. 17.01.2022 To find out if you have lost money waiting to be claimed, it takes less than thirty seconds to find out. There is $1.1 BILLION of unclaimed money in Australia. 10.01.2022 This is Mick and today was his last ever day of employment.....ever. We began planning this together a few years back & it was great that he had the confidence to be able to do it. It was great to be invited to celebrate with him over a few beers & hear about his plans; mostly fishing, travelling with his awesome wife, spending more time with his kids & sharing some stories with his grandkids. Congratulations Mick... Money is resource, not a reason for living.
08.01.2022 9 out of 10 Victorians are paying too much for Gas & Electricity. There is an independent Victorian Government energy price comparison site which helps you compare providers quickly & easily. PLUS you are also likely to be eligible for a $50 bonus just for checking. Program participants have saved an average of $245 off electricity and $260 off gas. Also, the Brotherhood of St. Laurence is piloting an energy broker service (again backed by Victorian Government) until the en...d of September. 06.01.2022 How you choose to spend the thousands of tax-free dollars you are likely to make for a few hours work every year is up to you (were booking overseas holidays). The most common tip of any financial blog, article, expert, book or morning show segment is to review your lending arrangements. The reason; the financial upside is enormous! There are a million ways to do this. Here is a simple one:... 1. Contact a mortgage broker asking them for at least two alternative lending solutions that are in your best interests. 2. Provide the mortgage brokers two ready-to-go alternative options to your existing bank (a good broker will also do this for you) and ask them to provide you with a solution to stop you from switching. 3. Choose which of your three options suits your circumstances. 06.01.2022 Interest rates were dropping sharply for over two years before COVID-19. Since then, there have been more decreases in interest rates, which banks can pass on to individuals and businesses. Whether you choose interest rates that are variable, fixed or a combination of both, youll likely have more money to allocate to other areas. Or, I guess you could just pay more loan interest than you have to.... https://bit.ly/30hG6av

05.01.2022 Banking rules about how much you can borrow were relaxed last week, which is good news for a lot of people, especially if you were one of the people who put off goals or thought they might be impossible altogether. Only a small number of banks have passed on this change so far and increasing debt without completely understanding your financial position (even if the bank says its OK) is not a great idea.
