01.01.2022 Have you ever thought about what your child should be wearing for their swimming lesson? We recommend that all children wear one pieces, speedos or jammers. These are tight fitting items that stay in place when swimming and don’t restrict movement through the water. While long and short sleeve rash shirts are important sun protection for outdoor swimming, they are actually a hindrance at swimming lessons. The wet fabric restricts your child’s movement and makes it... hard for them to correct their arm actions. Board shorts are another swimwear item that are not ideal for swimming lessons. When the fabric gets wet they become heavy and restrictive. They also have a tendency to fall down when swimming so your child spends more time adjusting their swimmers instead of actually swimming. Bikinis are also difficult for swimming lessons as they too move on your child’s body. Bikinis tend to move and become uncomfortable for your child when they are swimming, leading to more time spent adjusting swimwear instead of swimming. Goggles are not used by swimmers when practicing water safety because they would not have goggles on if they accidentally fell into a body of water (pool, river, ocean). Goggles are used by swimmers when they are developing their strokes, this allows them to see through the water and focus on the advice given to them. Swimming caps are worn by independent swimmers to not only keep our water clean but to keep hair out of your child’s face.
