22.01.2022 A Fintona Friendship Lunch to promote National Anti-Bullying Week was a wonderful way for students to reflect on what it means to be respectful, kind and caring towards each other. Our Year 12 students did a fantastic job running some fun activities to strengthen bonds between our youngest and oldest students. #thisisfintona #nationalantibullyingweek
21.01.2022 'ONE! We are the Clarkites! TWO! We're gonna beat you! THREE! I still can't hear you! FOUR! More! More! More!'... Congratulations to Clarke House girls who were victorious at the 2021 Senior Campus Swimming Carnival in Term 1. Whilst many races were highly competitive, some were full of laughter, and there was a great sense of camaraderie all day with cheers echoing throughout the swim centre. #thisisfintona
19.01.2022 Yesterday, Fintona hosted the Debaters Association Victoria (DAV) Women's Competition. Female students from across the State (Years 9 - 12) debated across three secret topics without knowing who they would be in a team with before the day. Congratulations to Amelia (Year 9) who was a member of the winning team! #thisisfintona
17.01.2022 We were so very fortunate to be able to bring our Year 12 students and their parents together to celebrate their end of secondary schooling last Thursday evening. The Ian Potter Queen’s Hall at State Library Victoria was a befitting venue in which to gather and present each girl with her Valedictorian Award and subject prizes (books!). In a year of many challenges and a few disappointments for the Class of 2020, it was a very special evening to share and celebrate their time ...as students of Fintona. 'When one encounters a problem there are two options: to wallow in self-doubt and misery or to adapt and respond to the situation. Every single person in our year level chose the latter option and took obstacles such as remote learning, technical difficulties and missing monumental school events in their stride.' - part of Nicole and Hannah's 2020 Consuls Report #agequodagis #thisisfintona
14.01.2022 It was terrific to see over sixty Fintona mums from ELC right through to Year 12 attend the inaugural ‘Platters, Prosecco and Pinot Night’. The event was a fun way for parents to relax and connect and will certainly be a fixture on our Fintona Community event calendar. #thisisfintona #out_of_thyme_melbourne
13.01.2022 We are delighted to announce Fintona's School Consuls for 2021 are Kara and Marianna and Deputy Consul for 2021, Neroli. We recently asked each of our 2021 leaders why they applied for their chosen leadership position, what makes a good leader and what they hope to achieve in their position. Over the holidays we will be sharing more about each of our Consuls, House Captains and Co-Curricular Leaders. You can read more about each leader's journey at Fintona and their future as...pirations online at: https://www.fintona.vic.edu.au/student-leaders-2021 Kara After such challenging times in 2020, I want to help everyone readjust and kick start a new year in 2021. It has been a year of uncertainty and greater separation from each other, so I envisage a greater emphasis on creating a holistic community that is Fintona. Marianna I believe that any leadership position is an opportunity for service. I am immensely grateful for the opportunities that Fintona has presented me with and being a Fintonian has filled me with pride. It is a community that has truly made me feel welcome, and during my time here has made me feel as though I am part of a family." Neroli "I applied for a leadership position because I have always loved the community that is Fintona. I constantly feel unconditionally supported by the staff, teachers and families of our small community. I felt my passion for Fintona would be beneficial and I knew I would not be alone with any endeavours that I was to take within my position." #thisisfintona #studentleaders #leadership
10.01.2022 'Overall it's an amazing opportunity that I'm very excited to be a part of.' - Livia. We are delighted to share that after two stages of trials and being part of a squad of 12 students, Livia (Year 11) has been selected in the final team of seven to represent Victoria in the National Schools' Debating Competition (NSDC) in May. Ms Elder said of Livia's achievement, 'Livia’s success in debating is down to the effort and enthusiasm she puts in and her ability to encourage and ...motivate those around her. She is always the first to put her hand up to join an opportunity, whether it be the DAV Women’s competition, British Parliamentary Competition or mentoring younger students in debating; her positive demeanour has contributed to a record number of students joining the debating program in 2021.' We wish you all the best at the NSDC in May Livia!
09.01.2022 Studying fashion in New York City has always been my dream and I’m excited to use this opportunity to combat issues of fast fashion and sustainability within the industry in a modern world, by learning to manage fashion businesses that keep the industry creative and fresh while remaining sustainable. Emmanuelle Zapris, Fintona Class of 2020 Congratulations to Emmanuelle on being awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Parsons School of Design, one of the world’s leading ar...t and design schools based in New York. Emmanuelle will undertake a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Strategic Design and Management. Emmanuelle will be following in the footsteps of some famous designers who have also studied at Parsons including Marc Jacobs and Donna Karan. #thisisfintona #oldfintoniansalumni #parsonsschoolofdesign
08.01.2022 Old Fintonian, Louisa Rose (’87) is one of Australia’s best and most influential winemakers. After finishing Year 12, Louisa completed a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in physics, from The University of Melbourne. Relocating to South Australia, she then went on to study winemaking, graduating as Dux in 1992. Whilst studying, she worked as a cellar hand at Yalumba in the Barossa, and then returned to join the team after completing her qualifications. Twenty-nine vintages later and now Chief Winemaker, Louisa has been involved in almost every facet of winemaking and cellar management. #thisisfintona
08.01.2022 Who would have thought that a toothpaste challenge could assist in developing team building skills but this is exactly what our Year 3 students found out recently. Tasked with the unusual challenge of squeezing out all the toothpaste from a tube, each group had to work together to share their ideas of how best to return all the paste to the tube without using their fingers. Whilst each team took a different approach, it was terrific to see the students discussing different strategies, encouraging each other and taking turns. For the record, our students worked out that it’s best not to mix up the paste as it’s easier if the paste holds its shape when returning it to the tube. #thisisfintona
06.01.2022 Threatening rain clouds over head didn’t dampen the Year 9 students’ enthusiasm for completing a Biathlon, a culmination of a PE unit that required them to design and implement their own individual fitness programs. The students displayed fierce determination when they completed the Biathlon’s 2km run, 300m swim and 1km run at Boroondara Sports Complex. Special mention to the top three place holders, Mia, Arabella and Katerina. #thisisfintona
06.01.2022 We hope to bring some Christmas joy to residents from two local Aged Care facilities when we deliver over 100 Christmas presents we have been collecting from the Fintona Community. #thisisfintona
05.01.2022 Adapting to the challenges of remote learning this year, Art and Design subjects at Fintona continued to provide students with an opportunity to explore and document the world around them. "Drawing heavily on critical and lateral problem solving processes and skills, adjustments were made to a number of projects so that process based art and design learning could, for the most part, be implemented as it would have here on Campus." - Mr Biviano, Fintona Art Co-ordinator Finton...a is proud to present the ELC - VCE Art and Design exhibition online for 2020. 03.01.2022 A Biology prac using bubble mix was the perfect way for our Year 11 students to learn about the plasma membrane, the barrier to all cells. Through bubbles, they learnt that the membrane can change shape, connect, split, form tunnels, join, and repair easily. The bubble mix also demonstrated how the membrane’s molecules move around very quickly on the surface of the cell making it extremely fluid. #thisisfintona

01.01.2022 Lulled to sleep by the sounds of elephants, zebras and giraffes, our Year 7 students had a fantastic time at their Melbourne Zoo sleepover. Witnessing the animals at night was certainly a unique experience and the students were treated to an impressive show by the snow leopards, the alert and roaring lions, and the elephants as they toured the Zoo in the darkness of night. As well as learning about adaptations, classification and comparative studies of the animals, the girls also participated in a ‘Survivor’ type challenge and listened to some inspiring talks by the zoo keepers about baboons and lions. #thisisfintona #melbournezoo #zoosnooze
