18.01.2022 HANLON PARK ARTWORK - have your say today The Hanlon Park transformation is well underway! We're getting rid of the concrete to naturalise the waterway and create a new urban oasis in Stones Corner with something for everyone. Council has worked with three talented designers to curate a selection of public art especially for Stones Corner. It's now up to locals to decide which concept will be featured at Hanlon Park.... The three designs are: "Re-wild" by Belinda Smith - This concept acknowledges the significance of returning Norman Creek to a natural waterway by celebrating the native convovulus flower historically found in the creek, drawing a connection to pre-colonial Brisbane. Belinda is an artist with strong Brisbane ties whose work draws on connections with memories and experiences. "Woody Pears" by Fiona Foley - This proposal up scales the native woody pear, featuring a series of playful forms emulating ideas of re-generation and renewal. The artist is interested in the juxtaposition of natural and man-made material, and imagines the works cast from aluminum, with interior surfaces lined in timber. Fiona is a contemporary Indigenous Australian artist of the Badtjala people, living in Brisbane. "Navigating Realignment" by Jenna Lee - This design reveals narratives of water, people, community and place. The folded canoe represents the vast and diverse vessels of First Nations people who have navigated waterways of this land for eons. Jenna is an artist who draws on her Aboriginal and Asian heritage, referencing ancestral cultural objects to bring light to new or forgotten cultural narratives. You can vote online via the below link - have your say by Sunday 6 December. https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au//stones-corner-precinct-ha Our Stones Corner N4C Norman Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee

17.01.2022 Stage One of the Hanlon Park rejuvenation is well underway! I can't wait to see the plants, insects and animals return to the waterway once the cement is removed, the miniature wetland is created and thousands of shrubs and trees are planted.

11.01.2022 Witness the magical moment when thousands of glittering fairy lights on Brisbane’s 22m-tall Christmas tree are switched on for the first time! You can enjoy it from your own home via a virtual stream on December 1st. #merrybrismas

06.01.2022 Christmas in Brisbane is my most favourite time of year With the challenging year nearly behind us, I am looking forward to relaxing and celebrating with family while discovering all that our festive city has to offer. Brisbane City Council is once again putting on a spectacular (but COVID-safe) program that will be sure to leave you merry and bright ... I also encourage you to shop local this year to help support our community business and keep an eye out for my up-coming shopping suggestions Please use this link to view the Christmas in Brisbane program: https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/whats/christmas-in-brisbane

02.01.2022 E-Bikes are coming to Brisbane! Brisbane City Council will be introducing 2000 electric bikes to our city as part of a new, world class public bike hire scheme. Data shows we’re already embracing e-mobility in Brisbane, with every 1 trip taken on CityCycle, there are now 5 trips on e-Scooters. In 10 years there have been 4 million CityCycle trips, and already 3.5 million e-scooter trips in only the last 2 years since they were introduced. ... CityCycles will be phased out over the next 12 months, at no cost to ratepayers, and docking stations will be converted to eMobility hubs for parking e-Bikes and e-Scooters. It’s all part of Team Schrinner’s vision to get people out of cars and using active transport. #repost Cr Ryan Murphy #brisbanecity #brisbane #ebike #emobility #activetravel #discoverbrisbane
