25.01.2022 The issue of stress, hot sweats and sleep disturbances come up a lot in conversations with women both in clinic and in online forums. Jumping straight to hormone replacement therapy is not the only answer. Think of your peri / menopausal symptoms as a report card for your general health. Making even moderate changes to your lifestyle and diet can often reap big rewards.

24.01.2022 Mindfullness feels like a fashionable buzzword right now and we can easily shrug it off, especially if we are busy, stressed, not sleeping, flushing, feeling anxious and overwhelmed. But, if we could just switch off and turn inwards and treat ourselves like our best friends we might just be able to lessen those symptoms. Could you give yourself 10 mins a day to just breathe? Tell me if you do or what stands in your way if you don't?

23.01.2022 This seems about right!

17.01.2022 I’ll put my hand up

16.01.2022 With stage 4 restrictions in place here in Victoria, many of us will be experiencing a rise in anxiety levels and with good reason! It’s hard but you are not alone. Today I’m is #MindlessMonday for me. I’m taking stock and I’m just going to enjoy the sun and be kind. If you’re feeling it, take a break and just tap out for a bit and give yourself the time to regroup. We can get this done

11.01.2022 Do you have days like this?Might be time to give those adrenals a bit of love!! #moodswing #meno #adaptogens

10.01.2022 Do any of these sound familiar? You are tired all the time! Insomnia is hanging around like some really toxic friend You don’t handle stress as well as you used to - you snap at seemingly insignificant things... You crave coffee to wake up and wine to wind down - but neither really helps You catch every virus going around and it takes ages to shake it off Hormonal cycles are erratic and you are PMSing BIG TIME! Low blood pressure has you feeling dizzy when you stand up You might be experiencing adrenal fatigue or what we health nerds refer to as HPA axis dysregulation. The thing is, peri-menopause and adrenal fatigue share similar characteristics. What’s more, they can both magnify the other! The good news is there are steps you can take to feel better again. 08.01.2022 Hands up who resonates with this Just when we thought we’d got through the last lockdown phase and here we are again! Are you finding you’re a bit more stressed, even though you feel like you’re doing nothing? Just getting through is good enough. How are you coping this time around? Let me know!

08.01.2022 Sugar might feel like a menopausal woman’s best friend but believe me, it’s not! A high sugar diet will increase both your insulin and your cortisol - a stress hormone. This will lead to more night sweats and encourage your body to store energy as fat. If you're already stressed out, the effect is even greater. So my tip is to steer clear of sugary snacks and processed foods which tend to have hidden sugars.... Instead, focus on consuming a diet high in fresh vegetables, particularly leafy greens, fruit, good quality proteins such as fish, lean poultry and meats, legumes, beans, nuts, tofu and good fats. Is sugar your best friend or worst enemy? Let me know below.

07.01.2022 Do you think that you're not stressed? Don't get me wrong - you may not feel particularly stressed. But if you currently have a lifestyle with no down time and with poor personal boundaries, you are stressing your adrenals.... If you find yourself drinking more wine to chill out or you are eating a highly processed diet or more takeaway because you are busy, those adrenals are working hard! If your diet is high in processed foods, sugars, salts and additives and low in fresh veggies, fruit, good protein and omega-3 fatty acids, your body will be under stress. If your sleep hygiene could do with some work or you are over-exercising, your body is stressed. You are more likely to experience typical stress symptoms such as tiredness, brain fog, insomnia, sugar or salt cravings, mood swings and weight gain and you are going to feel the effects of menopausal symptoms more intensely than you otherwise would. Does any of these resonate with you? Let me know below.

03.01.2022 This is so simple, clear and for most of us,doable

02.01.2022 Simple practices to help women help themselves through mindful self care. Have you tried meditation or even a slow yoga practice like Yin to help bring your nervous system back to a place of calm? I'd love to know! Please comment below x

01.01.2022 It’s been a little while since I introduced myself! I’m Fiona a degree qualified naturopath with a passion for supporting women to feel amazing as they age. You might also know me as the Vagipath because I talk all things ! I don’t believe that menopause should mean feeling fat, frumpy, tired and sad all the time. ... Our hormones are not there to work against us they are there to work with us. I know we can feel balanced, rested, energetic and be our true selves with the right information, education and support. To be frank, I find the pathologising of natural phases in a woman’s life unhelpful and often unnecessary. Of course for some women, HRT is a godsend! But for others, it creates other issues or simply doesn’t resonate with them for one reason or another. Having all the information and being able to choose is paramount. My favourite part about my job is being there when a woman has a ‘lightbulb moment’ when a piece of information or conversation we share resonates with that her own experience. Collaborating with the person in front of me to uncover the journey that took her to where she is and what works for her is what I love to do. As a practitioner, it’s important for me to continue learning and growing. Recently, I became a certified Metabolic Balance practitioner stay tuned for more on that topic! I’m curious - do you feel your hormones are working for you or against you?
