25.01.2022 For all those celebrating in Reid, I wish you and your families a safe and happy Moon Festival. .

25.01.2022 Wishing a very happy birthday to Premier Gladys Berejiklian. Thank you for your leadership, mentorship and friendship. : Steven Saphore

25.01.2022 To mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, today we re-launched the Parliamentarians for Action to Reduce Violence Against Women and Children through an online event. I’m proud to be a co-convener of this forum alongside colleagues of all political persuasions. Women and girls are disproportionately impacted by violence one in three women worldwide experience physical or sexual abuse in their lifetime, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only height...ened that risk. This is why the Morrison Government acted swiftly to commit $150 million for the domestic violence COVID-19 support package, in addition to the $340 million that the Commonwealth has already invested into addressing domestic violence. Every Australian needs to play a part in addressing violence against women. We must change attitudes of disrespect towards women and girls, as well as implement mental health strategies to break intergenerational cycles of abuse.

24.01.2022 This National Road Safety Week, the Little Blue Dinosaur Foundation has launched their book 'Tom's Holiday' to help educate parents, carers and children about the importance of pedestrian road safety. The most common cause of death of children aged one to 14 is road trauma, and children are especially vulnerable when on holiday in unfamiliar environments. As many families plan to holiday along the coast or in regional areas this summer, it's more important than ever to have that conversation with our kids about staying safe near roadways.

24.01.2022 For everyone celebrating Diwali in Reid, I wish you a safe and joyful time with your families and loved ones.

21.01.2022 Some positive news for Australians today - 75 per cent of the jobs lost due to #COVID19 have now returned. We came into the pandemic from a position of economic strength, which has paved the way for our #COVIDSafe recovery.

21.01.2022 I've been fighting hard to make sure our community remains supported through the devastating impacts of the global pandemic. Since March, the Australian Government’s Economic Support Payments have delivered almost $43.5 million to residents of Reid. These support payments have injected almost $9 billion into the economy and provided an economic lifeline to millions of Australians at a time when they've needed it most.

21.01.2022 I enjoyed speaking with St Patrick's Catholic Primary School Mortlake about the importance of democracy and present some special awards to students. It’s always a pleasure to spend time with our the youngest members of our community.

20.01.2022 Congratulations to Australia's new Chief Scientist, Dr Cathy Foley. Dr Foley has had an outstanding career in physics, including in her current role as Chief Scientist of CSIRO, and she was educated in Reid at Santa Sabina College in Strathfield. For young women around the country who are seeking a career in STEM, I hope that Dr Foley is an inspiration.

19.01.2022 Today is Dogs in Politics Day and I wanted to pay tribute to our Coco. Earlier in the year, like many families in our area, I was working from home while my kids were doing their school work remotely at home. It was a challenging period, but the one thing we all enjoyed was having more time with Coco. She definitely enjoyed it too!

18.01.2022 I asked the Minister for Health Greg Hunt MP to provide an update on our progress with our vaccine research, and he shared some important news: We have secured two more COVID-19 vaccine agreements, totalling five separate vaccine supplies for Australians, if proven safe and effective. Production of vaccines has started in Australia this week, made by Australian company CSL.... This brings the Morrison Government’s investment into COVID-19 vaccine research to $3.2 billion.

17.01.2022 Some great progress has been made on Australia's emissions reductions. Australia’s carbon emissions fell 3% in the 2020 financial year. We've beaten our Kyoto-era target by up to 459 million tonnes. We've seen a record spike in renewables. ... This has all been achieved while creating jobs and investing in new, sustainable technologies.

17.01.2022 Some breaking news - I'm delighted to announce that Gale Street in Mortlake will be getting a pedestrian crossing! This was a local issue I fought hard for, knowing how essential pedestrian safety is for our youngest and most vulnerable members of the community. Well done to the parents who initiated this call to action and have succeeded in making the main street at St Patrick's Catholic Primary School Mortlake and parish a safer place for the community.

16.01.2022 I'm proud to support the incredible volunteers at the Foundation for A Bloody Great Cause through a $4,200 Volunteer Grant for new IT equipment. Their new iPads and credit card terminals will support their fundraising activities for world leading blood cancer clinical trials at Concord Repatriation General Hospital.

15.01.2022 This $60 million federal government investment means domestic violence survivors, especially those with children, have a safe place to stay when fleeing violence. More needs to be done to challenge the social and cultural factors behind domestic violence, but this investment will keep vulnerable people safe during immediate crisis.

14.01.2022 Australia is in the midst of the most significant strategic realignment since the Second World War. Yesterday I asked the Minister to outline how the Morrison Government is working with international partners during our COVID-19 comeback to keep Australians safe. We are strengthening our partnership with India, Japan and the United States to ensure the the Indo-Pacific remains secure.

13.01.2022 Recently I met with Kerrie Edwards, a local mum in Reid who has started a petition to adapt the Medicare benefit for abdominoplasty surgery to include mothers with postpartum abdominal separation. This would mean life-changing surgery for mothers living with a condition that causes chronic lower back pain and urinary incontinence - a condition that stops mums from doing something as simple as picking up their child. I am passionate about improving perinatal health for all women. Supporting mothers living with life-long #birthtrauma means supporting women's health, supporting Australian families and encouraging women's participation in the workforce. If this is an issue you care about, be sure to sign Kerrie's petition before tomorrow midnight: www.aph.gov.au/petition_list?id=EN1751

12.01.2022 It was wonderful to visit the Year Six students at Drummoyne Public School. Their thoughtful questions about leadership and democracy led me to think that a future Member for Reid could be among their ranks!

12.01.2022 The City of Canada Bay has received $20,000 through the Morrison Government's Communities Environment Program for the rejuvenation of native flora and fauna at Queen Elizabeth Park, Concord. When we preserve and protect our local environment, we ensure the future of our planet. The Bushcare volunteers are doing an incredible job of restoring this rich habitat for our native birds and bees.

11.01.2022 The #DontWaitMate campaign encourages all of us to look after our health needs during the coronavirus pandemic. Please keep attending your vital healthcare appointments, pathology tests, scans and screenings.

11.01.2022 Good to join Minister for Multicultural Affairs Alan Tudge MP to hear from leaders in the Chinese Australian community. Right now, more than ever, there needs to be a constructive dialogue to find a path forward.

10.01.2022 While online citizenship ceremonies were the norm for a while, it was fantastic to attend the first face-to-face ceremony held by Burwood Council in many months. Being present at this important milestone for new Australians in our area is such an uplifting part of my role. Congratulations to all those present - I look forward to many more COVID-Safe ceremonies to come.

10.01.2022 For Year 12 students in Reid, graduation is right around the corner! My team and I have been delivering the 2020 School Leaver's Guide to help school leavers prepare for their transition to work, learning a trade or further study. If you didn't get a copy at school, feel free to contact my office and I will mail one to you.... 9715 7444 [email protected]

10.01.2022 Today on National Police Remembrance Day, we pay tribute to those officers who have fallen in the line of duty. This year has reminded us of the vital role our police officers play in our communities. They were an essential part of the relief efforts during the horrific summer bushfires. During the coronavirus pandemic, police have overseen quarantine operations, enforced health directives and help manage our borders. We thank all police for the sacrifices they make to keep our communities safe, and pause today with gratitude and remembrance to those those police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the course of their duties.

09.01.2022 The Morrison Government is reforming Australia’s insolvency framework as part of our economic recovery plan to keep businesses in business and Australians in jobs. We’re standing by small and family businesses and doing all we can to ensure they come out on the other side of #COVID19. More information here: http://lbr.al/4jxa

09.01.2022 The strength of a community rests not in the hands of government, but the hearts of the individual. For no government can create a sense of community, only the people can do that. Our society is richer for the sporting clubs, social organisations and associations that individuals contribute to and participate. This underpins our democracy and as our Prime Minister said: freedom therefore rests on us taking personal responsibility for how we treat each other, based on our respect for and appreciation of, human dignity.

08.01.2022 While we can’t travel overseas at the moment, Reid makes me feel like I’ve been around the world in a single day! I always enjoy visiting the businesses around Burwood Chinatown.

08.01.2022 Today on World Pharmacists Day, it's important to acknowledge the crucial role our pharmacists play in improving public health as well as providing life-saving medicines. During the coronavirus pandemic, they've done above and beyond to provide care for our community.

07.01.2022 Wishing a happy Easter to all those celebrating in the Orthodox tradition. Easter is a time to connect with family and celebrate the most important words of the Christian faith - He is Risen! We draw strength from this message of hope and heart.

06.01.2022 This Men’s Shed Week, I wanted to shine a light on the incredible work of our local Men's Sheds. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, our Men's Sheds have remained very active this year through charity appeals, community projects and social catch ups. They continue to be a place where men can build connections and promote better health and wellbeing. This video is a #throwback to last year's visit to the City of Canada Bay Men's Shed, where Founder Norm Tate shares how our local Sheds do so much for the community.

06.01.2022 Another day, another community roundtable!

05.01.2022 When we support restaurants and hospitality venues, we're also supporting Australian jobs and Aussie supply chains. It was a pleasure to sit down with Wes Lambert, CEO of Restaurant & Catering Association, Aleksandar Mitrevsk from Schibello Coffee, John Navarra from Navarra Venues, Jon Macias from Pinnacle Packaging Australia, and Christian Bracci from the Majors Bay Chamber of Commerce to hear their experiences and ideas about how to better support the hospitality industry through this challenging time.

05.01.2022 Aussie manufacturers stepped up during the pandemic and now we’re backing them to create jobs and drive our economic recovery. The Morrison Government is investing $1.5 billion to help manufacturing businesses scale up and take on the world: www.industry.gov.au/manufacturing

05.01.2022 Australia has strengthened our relationship with our partners in the Indo-Pacific region through our participation in the Malabar Exercise. We are working together with our neighbours to make sure we have a more secure and prosperous region.

04.01.2022 While Reid is one of the most multicultural electorates in Australia, what unites citizens across our community is our shared Australian values - values that promote democracy, freedom and equality of opportunity. The Morrison Government is updating the Australian Citizenship test to ensure new citizens understand and are committed to the values that bind all Australians together. See the updated Australian Citizenship booklet here: ... https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au//test-and/our-common-bond See more

04.01.2022 Schibello Coffee located in Rhodes is a growing coffee manufacturer that now has roasteries in Sydney, Brisbane and Singapore. I'm passionate about supporting home grown manufacturers like Schibello because they create Aussie jobs, lead in innovation and boost our economy.

03.01.2022 On this Remembrance Day, we honour the sacrifices of those men and women who served their country. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten and we draw inspiration from their legacy. Lest we forget.

02.01.2022 It was a pleasure to join Years 5 and 6 at Marie Bashir Public School last week to talk about democracy and Parliament. As the Year 5 students prepare to transition into their final year of junior school, it was an especially good time to discuss what qualities make a good leader.

02.01.2022 This NAIDOC Week, we celebrate the enduring culture of our First Nations people, while inviting all Australians to contemplate our shared future. I am proud that the Australian Government is supporting SHINE for Kids Silverwater through a NAIDOC Week Grant to run a tailored Belonging to Family program. It is important that we continue to empower the Indigenous spirit, especially among young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

02.01.2022 My two newest media advisors! Welcome to the Reid team. These two Green and Gold Bell Frogs are courtesy of the Sydney Olympic Park Authority.

02.01.2022 The students of Five Dock Public School were excited to have a video-chat with Prime Minister Scott Morrison (ScoMo) today. The students asked questions that covered everything from the COVID-19 vaccine, the importance of mental health support and climate change action. I am so proud of all the students in Reid, who are already politically engaged members of our community.

01.01.2022 It was wonderful to join Minister for Health Greg Hunt MP at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse to officially open the Sarcoma & Surgical Research Centre. The centre has the ability to transform the lives of people living with cancer, particularly for patients with sarcoma or head and neck cancer, who often require complex bone replacement surgery. The work of our scientists, clinicians and medical experts is truly incredible and I am very proud to be a part of a Government that is investing significantly into the future of medicine.

01.01.2022 Concord West Public School has some beautiful new playground equipment thanks to a $17,500 grant delivered through the Morrison Government's Local Schools Community Fund. I was impressed by the students' initiative in contributing to the school community, guided by their teachers and the great P&C committee.

01.01.2022 Today marks the International Day for Older Persons, a celebration of the older members of our community - it also marks the launch of Probus Day! Probus South Pacific do a fantastic job of keeping retirees active and creating life-long connections. Especially with coronavirus isolating us more than usual, their work is more important than ever. Reid is lucky to have many local Probus Clubs. Find one near you at www.probussouthpacific.org/directories/lookup

01.01.2022 Work has officially begun on the $75 million redevelopment of Concord Oval, a joint project funded by the City of Canada Bay, the NSW Government, the Federal Government and the Wests Tigers. The redevelopment will see a new Centre of Excellence for the Wests Tigers and fantastic recreational facilities for the whole community to enjoy. The project will support more than 1,000 jobs, giving our local construction industry a boost as we rebuild from the COVID-19 pandemic, and providing facilities that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

01.01.2022 The heartbreak of losing a child is something that never leaves you. Today we commemorate National Miscarriage Awareness Day by wearing a lemon ribbon. Sadly, 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. Thank you to Miscarriage Information Support Service (MISS), Pink Elephants and SANDS for supporting parents who experience a miscarriage. #miscarriageinformationsupportservice #miscarriage #babyloss
