25.01.2022 Heaters and BBQs are definitely for outdoor use only. Carbon Monoxide is odourless and impossible to detect without a gas detector. A very sad incident.
21.01.2022 Winter is around the corner and people are using their wood heaters. We recommend that chimneys be cleaned at least once a year by an experienced chimney sweep. A dirty chimney can cause a chimney fire if soot is allowed to build up. This happens quicker if unseasoned or poor quality wood is burnt, or if the chimney is left burning overnight. If the chimney becomes sufficiently blocked the fire gases cannot escape as intended which can result in Carbon Monoxide poisoning. A domestic smoke detector does not detect a build up of Carbon Monoxide. When properly operated and serviced a wood heater creates a safe, cosy environment. And when the chimney sweep visits don't forget to shake his hand- it is widely believed to bring good luck, especially at a wedding!
21.01.2022 Hi all After serious consideration and due to the difficult situation with covid restrictions we have decided again NOT to run the lolly run this year , we und...erstand this will cause disappointment and we apologise but the restrictions have made it impossible to amass the lollies required . The format of the lolly run will be reviewed next year to ensure its ongoing viability Once again sorry for the inconvenience And we wish everyone a safe and merry Christmas 458 TERALBA staff See more

20.01.2022 We hope everyone has a relaxing and safe break. Our crews have been working hard and we appreciate the community’s gratitude.
17.01.2022 We urge people not to use outdoor heaters or BBQs indoors during the cold weather. The cafe style gas heaters or BBQs that burn LPG or kettle style BBQs that burn charcoal beads are designed for outdoor use only. They produce a variety of gases, the most prevalent and dangerous is CO Carbon Monoxide. CO is a clear odourless gas and requires a gas detector to confirm its presence. There have been many tragedies involving the inappropriate use of external equipment. Carbon Monoxide is a silent killer.
17.01.2022 Massive thanks to our wonderful local community for all the supplies we have received as donations during this very difficult time, our crews out in the field are very grateful. For those that are interested/able to further help, donations can be made to Australian Red Cross to help fire ravaged communities. WIRES to help devastated native wildlife and NSW Rural Fire Service.
14.01.2022 Retained firefighters from Toronto station as well as crews from Belmont, Wangi Wangi and Tarro were hard at work in Kempsy and Crescent Head from the 11th - 13th as a strike force to deal with bushfires in that area. As well as fighting bushfires, crews responded to a fully involved housefire as well as a motor vehicle accident.
14.01.2022 Many thanks to Wangi Mens Shed and the Wangi Wangi community for banding together and putting on some excellent food for Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service Firefighters working on the Wangi bushfire this week your efforts are greatly appreciated.
13.01.2022 On Total Fire Ban days only gas or electric barbecues are allowed. To find out if it is a Toban day we recommend using the Fires Near Me App for up to date information.
12.01.2022 Some great news! I’m at Morisset Police Station with Lake Macquarie Police Superintendent Danny Sullivan to announce that nine new highway patrol officers will ...be permanently based at the local station. This is a direct result of our push to get more police in the local area. It also comes after new figures show that speed, drink and drug driving, and mobile phone-related driving offences have spiked on our roads, along with an increase in injuries and fatalities in accidents. These additional officers will also be targeting the local hoons who have been turning local streets into drag strips. It’s a great breakthrough and I particularly want to thank Superintendent Sullivan for the work he has done in getting us to this point. I’ll post some more details in a video later. See more
09.01.2022 Just after 10.30 on Saturday morning the crews from Toronto Fire Station were called to a truck fire on Bay st near Quigley rd at Fennell Bay. A LMCC waste collection team noticed flames and smoke coming from the garbage truck. Quick thinking enabled the driver to find a location to tip the load saving the truck and minimising the impact on the environment. At least 10 tonnes of council pick up waste was dumped near the reserve before Firefighters got to work. Firefighters i...nitially used hand lines to attack the flames and worked in air sets to gain access to the seat of the fire. The fire was brought under control nearly an hour later when the CAFS (compressed air foam system) tanker used a high pressure stream of foam to reach the seat of the fire. Bay st was reopened to traffic and LMCC staff spent the afternoon removing the rubbish. The A class foam used is commonly used to fight bushfires and does not contain PFAS. It is believed the fire was caused by a rechargeable battery included in the council collection. Ni Cad and Lithium Ion batteries should not be disposed of in the bin. They can be taken to Awaba Waste management centre free of charge. Officeworks also accepts used batteries. See more

06.01.2022 People are able to enjoy a recreational fire now that the cooler weather is here. We ask people to use common sense with fires. You must have a properly constructed fire place or pit, clean seasoned wood, a hose or water source nearby and a responsible adult in charge. Never burn green waste or rubbish.
06.01.2022 Crews from 464 have been hard at work in communities impacted by the floods around Port Macquarie and Taree. Our thoughts are with all of those affected. For those that are able and willing to donate, below is a link to 'GIVIT' who have partnered with state governments to facilitate responsible donations. https://www.givit.org.au
05.01.2022 The continuing dry weather is bringing the local wildlife close to the roads. There has been a significant increase in possums, wallabies and kangaroos getting hit by vehicles. We urge people to take care and report any animal injuries to WIRES.
05.01.2022 Scented candles have caused several fires in recent weeks. Only burn where they can be seen, no closer than 10 cm to other objects and no longer than 4 hours at a time. Only place them on non flammable surfaces out of reach of children and pets.
04.01.2022 We recommend people download the Fires Near Me app for up to date information and alerts.
03.01.2022 Fire and Rescue NSW is recruiting for full time Firefighters again. Have you ever thought about the challenging but rewarding role of a Firefighter? All the information you need is on our website. Recruitment closes on 9th August. You could be like Courtney who just commenced training at the Fire Training Academy, to become a full time Firefighter. Courtney is a Toronto local who has served our community as a Retained Firefighter for over five years. She is competent on driv...ing the two Bushfire tankers at 464 Toronto and attended many major incidents including the Kooragang waste fire, the B double ethanol fire at Cooranbong and of course the unprecedented bushfires of 2019/2020. Courtney will be rostered at a fire station in the Sydney Metro area after graduating from the academy. Training is a never ending process for all Firefighters and career opportunities exist for motivated people. If you are up for a challenge go to the FRNSW website for all the details. Good luck.
