19.01.2022 SOLAR PANEL FIRES | We are urging residents with solar panels to remain aware and vigilant after an influx in solar panel fires this year. This footage was obta...ined from a neighbour in Glenwood who called Triple Zero (000) after noticing a house nearby had solar panels alight. This was one of six solar panel fires that Fire and Rescue NSW attended in the past week alone. These statistics show solar panel fires are up 20 percent compared to last year and continuing to rise. Isolation switches appear to be causing almost half of solar panel fires, so it is vital to ensure solar panels are installed and regularly maintained by a professional and that systems comply with Australian Standards. Always do a licence check with NSW Fair Trading before any installation and wiring takes place. This can be found at https://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au//during-th/solar-panels. #MoreThanFire #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #PreparedForAnything

15.01.2022 Another adventurous day for the crew. Turning out to 3 calls and also conducting their skills drill for the fortnight. At 12:54 Rescue Pumper 392, Pumper 208, ...NSW Ambulance and the Hunter Valley Police District were responded to a MVA Persons trapped. It was downgraded to just a MVA and the area was rendered safe with no injuries recorded. Later on RP392 were responded to an unknown fire. On investigation the call was given in good faith. Then whilst we were conducting our skills drill we assisted public with the help of local police. If you were out and about near Bowman park you would have seen us training on our new single inlet monitor. We also conducted a refresher on our bigger dual inlet monitor. These can be very useful in major emergencies as they can free up FF’s. We even got a visit off some tired pups that needed a refreshment from the monitors. 02.01.2022 For this week’s #FlashbackFriday we will be sharing the story of former retained firefighter, Adriana Mugica. In 1993, Adriana joined Wauchope Brigade as the un...it’s first female firefighter. It is important to note that women were only admitted into the NSW Fire Brigade from 1985. Interestingly, Wauchope was the first unit in the North 5 Zone to become rescue accredited, paving the way for Adriana’s next ‘first’. Just two years after joining Wauchope Brigade, she successfully undertook the State Rescue Board’s Rescue Operator Assessment, becoming the first female to be accredited in primary rescue operations. At the time, assessment subjects included hydraulics, rescue scene assessment, winches/chain pull set, cutting equipment, theory examination, patient packaging, air equipment, generators, and cordage. In a personal letter to Adriana, former Commissioner Ian MacDougall congratulated her on this accomplishment, noting you now have an enduring place in our history. Although rescue has been at the core of FRNSW efforts for the past century, it has evolved over the years with an increased focus on accreditation. Currently, the service has 182 accredited rescue units (and 1,853 specialised rescue operators) that assist with incidents such as motor vehicle accident rescue, animal rescue, and fire rescue. This number continues to grow. [: Adriana Mugica, 1995] #FlashbackFriday #History #FRNSW #Museum #Penrith #VisitPenrith #Wauchope Fire and Rescue NSW
