12.01.2022 Did you know that every pay packet firefighters volunteer to give up a bit of their take home pay to donate towards the maintenance and up keep of our favourite station 002. See 002 station is Westmead children’s hospital which has been nominated as a honorary station and takes the number 2 after headquarters City of Sydney 001. Specifically the salary sacrifice that firefighters make goes directly to the children’s burn unit helping kids that have suffered the terrible consequences of receiving a burn. This donation is entirely optional, no employees are required to donate. Yet every firefighter does. Just another great thing your firefighters do for our community.

11.01.2022 WHILST YOU WERE SLEEPING So the busy night continues for 37 Crew as we left a house fire in Turramurra to help our colleges from 42 Ryde, 59 Eastwood, 58 Beecroft, Ladder Platform 36 Crows Nest, 65 Rydlmere and 66 Rhodes at a 3rd alarm structure fire in Eastwood. Strap yourself in for a super quick response to a big one with over 200 residents evacuated. 09.01.2022 A message from our friends at Kuring Gai Police Area Command. Wise words.

09.01.2022 Today is a special day in every firefighters heart as we remember the fallen comrades from the September 11th Terrorist attack on the world trade centre. One of our very own, Senior Firefighter Ben Swift visited New York and wrote these very moving words about his experience. Great stuff Swifty. This very morning 19 years ago, a plan was in motion that ultimately lead to the murder of thousands of innocent Americans. The last picture is a very symbolic one. It shows six firef...ighters on ladder 118 coming over the Brooklyn bridge for their last ride. These men saw what was in front of them, knew what they were getting into, and they still went. They still went to try and save as many as they could. All six gentlemen on ladder 118 died that day. This photo represents what the fire service is all about, the service and protection of others. Trial by fire. (Photo/post credits: in memoriam September 11 on Facebook) I still remember the morning so clearly, waking up to the news as 14 year old boy, not being able comprehend what had just happened or what was to transpire as the morning went on. I knew at that moment that I wanted to start paving my way towards the career that I’m currently in, helping people on the worst days of their lives. Being in Manhattan this time last year whilst visiting many fire houses I saw just how many people this tragedy has affected. From the countless shrines in each house, stories from the firemen, parts of the twisted, burnt apparatuses hung up... Visiting the memorial museum at ground zero was one of the most moving places that I have ever visited, this day touches me greatly, as it should any firefighter. #343 #wewillneverforget #NeverForget #September11 #FDNY #firetruck #firemen #firedepartment #firefighters #brotherhood #ems #kcco #paramedic #rescue #firehouse #firedept #workingfire #feuerwehr #brandweer #pompier #medic #retten #bomberos #feuerwehrmann #IAFF #boxalarm #fireservice# #fullyinvolved #thinredline #343 @ 9/11 World Trade Center Memorial Monumen, See more

08.01.2022 A truck fire attended by 37s Gordon’s Crew today. There was nothing rubbish about the guys effort today. They really cleaned up a stinky situation.

04.01.2022 Gordon and Ryde Firefighters are currently on Scene in Kulgoa Rd, Gordon with a truck driver entrapped in a cabin draped in live wires. Energy company is on site and crews are currently working to release the driver. A transformer and pole has also caught alight but has since been extinguished. Please avoid the area if possible. 04.01.2022 FOLLOW UP ON LUCKY THE LIZARD. It was nearly a year ago that we brought you the uplifting story of lucky the lizard whom sadly drowned in a pool skimmer box but was resuscitated using heart compression by one of Gordon’s off duty firefighters. Lucky regained conciseness and lived to eat more snails from the garden for another day. It was by far our most popular post and received feedback and news stories from every part of the world. If you haven’t seen Lucky’s extraordinary ...rescue here’s a link to the original video. https://www.facebook.com/gordonfirestation/videos/2538910213013375/?vh=e We were fortunate enough to receive an update on lucky. His a little older a little bigger and hopefully a little wiser when playing in the water. Anyway enjoy a video of Lucky chowing into one of his favourite things, raspberries. Luckys happy story also serves as a timely reminder to watch little ones in and around the water. Practice your resuscitation plan and always be aware of hazards (seen and unseen) in and around the water. Also never ever enter flood waters. 03.01.2022 We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. TIP no 1: KEEP LOOKING WHEN COOKING! Today Gordon firefighters were called to a unit fire in a kitchen caused by food igniting on a stove. Upon seeing flames erupting from the oil in the pan the unfortunate resident thought they were doing the right thing and placed the burning pan under the tap in the kitchen sink. ... TIP no 2: NEVER EVER PLACE A PAN ON FIRE UNDER A RUNNING TAP! The result, a huge fire ball that reached the roof and triggered the sprinkler system resulting in a completely flooded unit. This situation can be extremely dangerous. If a pan catches on fire cover it with a lid if safe and remove it from the heat if possible or alternatively cover with a fire blanket. Remove to a safe space like an outdoor balcony when it’s safe to do so. If you are unable to do this call 000 immediately, close doors behind you, turn off the stove if safe and get out and stay out until fire crews arrive. Never re enter a burning building. 02.01.2022 https://www.news.com.au///07c1b031cd8c0c4f48bd3065595bfddc The most interesting aspect of being a firefighter with one of the largest professional brigades in the world is that every day and every job presents a surprising challenge that we can’t anticipate when we rock up for work in the morning. When not attending truck fires, Gordon Firefighters helped our mates at Kuring Gai Police Area Command with a dodgy package. #preparedforanything #HAZMAT Fire and Rescue NSW
