23.01.2022 We have been getting a lot of questions regarding a push across social media to tie red or orange ribbons to mailboxes to show appreciation for Firefighters. Whilst we appreciate any tribute to our firefighters, Fire and Rescue NSW are not behind any official call to place ribbons anywhere. We encourage anyone who has a Static Water Supply (pool, dam, large water tank) to instead fix a SWS sign to their mailbox or front fence. You can get an SWS sign from our local fire stati...on or otherwise write it on your fence or mailbox and our crews will know they can access this water supply should they need to. Thank you to everyone who is thinking of us, sending their thanks and words of support, we really appreciate it and it means a lot

23.01.2022 SWIFT WATER RESCUE STRIKE TEAMS | We've heard the phrase Strike Team used for bushfires, but did you know that Fire and Rescue NSW has Strike Teams for many typ...es of emergencies? Today Fire and Rescue Firefighters from Regentville, Wollongong, Eastwood, and Hurstville have formed two Strike Teams of Swift Water Rescue operators. These teams are being Pre Deployed to the North coast where they will respond to rescue incidents where required. As the wet weather increases more strike teams can be formed to help other areas as required. #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire #Rescue

17.01.2022 **A message from our Commissioner, Paul Baxter** At Fire and Rescue NSW, we are prepared for anything, to protect the irreplaceable. That role is carried out th...rough our organisation’s various capabilities. When fires blazed throughout the South Coast, we deployed Firefighters to minimise those fires and protect life first, then property. In the aftermath, the community was in need of healthcare. And so, as part of our global disaster and humanitarian capability, we deployed resources and logistical support to provide NSW Health with a field hospital in Batemans Bay. The facility provides Doctors and Nurses a place where they can attend to those in need. A lot of work has gone into this deployment and I want to thank all our teams involved. #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire #NSWFires #FRNSW #AFAC

17.01.2022 Isolated thunderstorms with a potential for heavy rainfall bursts are predicted for the South Coast later this evening and Saturday which may cause flash floodi...ng due to an already wet environment. Make the safe decision and never drive through floodwater, there is always another way. 16.01.2022 An update on some possible wild weather heading our way!

14.01.2022 Smoke Alarms: With more of us spending increased time indoors it's a good time to check your smoke alarms are working. Working smoke alarms help save lives! All smoke alarms should be checked at least once a month and vacuumed once every six months - this keeps your smoke alarm free of particles to help reduce false alarms and ensure smoke can easily reach the internal sensor.... If your smoke alarm is older than 10 years the alarm should be replaced with a new 10-year battery smoke alarm. #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable Smoke Alarms: With more of us spending increased time indoors it's a good time to check your smoke alarms are working. 13.01.2022 From our friends at the SES:

13.01.2022 Merry Christmas Rocky wants to make you smile...

11.01.2022 Thousands of NSW's Firefighters saw 2019 out wearing goggles and standing on the end of a fire hose. We captured just a few of their stories on the NSW South Co...ast. The man that was transported to hospital was later discharged and is apparently recovering. Our thoughts are with him and everyone who has been affected by these relentless bushfires. #PreparedForAnything #MoreThanFire #NSWFires #FRNSW #ProtectTheIrreplacable #frnswmedia

11.01.2022 TOBAN in the Illawarra today, try and stay cool out there today.

10.01.2022 We have a story to tell. Our Commissioner, Paul Baxter tells a big part of that story... #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire #FRNSW #NSWFires #BushfireRelief #AFAC #Firefighting

06.01.2022 We send our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of those who tragically lost their lives today. This is an absolute tragedy in what has already been a devastating bushfire season. We are grieving with you.

06.01.2022 Today, we wanted to give a massive shout out to all of our emergency services colleagues and the support networks that are behind them. There is a lot of media about the firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW and the NSW Rural Fire Service and National Parks and Wildlife Service over these past few weeks and months, but did you realise that our good friends from the NSW Police Force , NSW Ambulance and NSW SES have also been working exceptionally hard under trying circumstance...s to provide service to the communities. Not to mention the numerous other organisations out there who have been providing valuable disaster recovery, community support, sheltering people in need, feeding the masses, providing wellbeing support and much more. We want to take a moment to say thank you. From the bottom of our hearts. THANK YOU It always takes a team. And we are lucky to have each and every one of you on our team.

05.01.2022 We are flattered by the recent idea to honour firefighters with coloured ribbon on house fronts.. but we’d like to say a little something. Whilst it is true that there have been thousands of firefighters in some horrific conditions battling to save people, animals and buildings, we simply cannot and should not take the credit for what is truly a mix of superheroes from all services. We couldn’t do our job safely if it weren’t for our guardian angels at NSW Ambulance that h...Continue reading

01.01.2022 Fire Spread Prediction for Saturday 4 January 2020 There are a number of dangerous fires burning in the Shoalhaven, South Coast, Snowy Mountains and areas surro...unding Greater Sydney. Severe to Extreme fire danger is forecast for these areas tomorrow with temperatures in the 40’s, very low humidity and strong winds. A south-westerly change will impact inland fires tomorrow afternoon and evening, and a gusty southerly change will impact coastal fires from late tomorrow afternoon, reaching Sydney around midnight. These conditions will make fire behaviour erratic and very dangerous. This map displays the predicted fire spread and the communities that may come under threat from embers or fire fronts. Other surrounding areas may still come under threat if conditions change, or if fires breach containment lines. There are concerns for the areas of: - The Shoalhaven Region from Burrill Lake, north to Nowra - The South Coast from Batemans Bay to the Victorian Border - The Snowy Valley area from Tarcutta to Tumut in the north, south through Batlow and Tumbarumba to Khancoban and Jingellic - Snowy Monaro region from Adaminaby to Cooma, then south-west to Jindabyne, Perisher Valley and Thredbo. This includes all of the Kosciuszko National Park. - Areas surrounding Greater Sydney Southern Highlands, parts of Western Sydney and the Lower Blue Mountains There may potentially be new fires burning in these areas that we do not yet know about, which may threaten you without warning. Potential spread area - you should not be in this area on Saturday. Move to a large town outside this area, or if you are on the South Coast, move to an area that has already been burnt or go to the beach. Stay away from bush fire prone areas. Potential ember attack You should not be in this area on Saturday as new fires could start and spread quickly. If you are in the area of the general areas on this map, be vigilant for new fires that may start well ahead of the fire front.

01.01.2022 The crew from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 509 Wyoming recorded this video showing the moment their truck was overrun by the bushfire burning South of Nowra at 3...pm today. The crew was forced to shelter in their truck as the fire front passed through. The crew are okay. #NSWFires #ProtectTheIrreplaceable See more
