22.01.2022 The leading cause of home fires is unattended cooking. Don't add to this statistic. Stay in the kitchen while cooking and turn off the stove before you leave. #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire

20.01.2022 Static Water Supply program 2020 Bushfire Season Preparations Fire fighters are urging residents of Katoomba and surrounding towns to sign up to the Static Water Supply (SWS) program ahead of the bushfire season if their home has a swimming pool, water tank or dam that could be used for firefighting purposes. Residents living in high bushfire risk areas can identify where their pool, tank or dam is as part of the SWS program, beginning their bush fire preparations and help...ing firefighters locate these vital water resources when they need it most this summer. Participating residents will be given a free SWS sign to display prominently on their letterbox or fence so that it’s clearly visible to firefighters from the road. Completing a Bushfire Survival Plan should also be part of your plans and will help residents and their families make important decisions about what to do during a bushfire before it’s too late. Get in contact with Katoomba Fire & Rescue or your nearest fire station and sign up for the program. Call: 02 47 826 733 Email: [email protected]

19.01.2022 BUSH FIRE I #Bardia Shortly before 1am Sydney Fire Communications - Fire Rescue NSW - 801 Station received the first of numerous 000 calls to a bushfire at Bral...los st Bardia. Fire and Rescue St Andrews responded and on arrival found an area of bush alight with residents advising us that it had been started by illegal fire works. 19.01.2022 343 FRNSW remembers the sacrifice made by 343 firefighters from FDNY, who died in the line of duty on this day 19 years ago. Your service will never be forgotten.

19.01.2022 On Saturday, January 23, FDNY members from Ladder 10 and Marine 6 operated at Battery Park in Manhattan, near the Statue of Liberty Ferry for a person in the wa...ter. Ladder Company 10 arrived first on scene, and rescue swimmer Firefighter Dennis Wick made his way into the water. Firefighter Wick was able to secure the individual. Marine Company 6 arrived on scene shortly after and sent in rescue swimmer Firefighter Ryan Barnett to assist Firefighter Wick in the water. Firefighter John Gemmell pulled all the members and the patient onboard Marine 6. The patient was transferred to FDNY Paramedics Jonathan Kleisner and Matthew Olton, Station 8, who provided patient care and transport to a local hospital. See more

19.01.2022 During the Corona Virus lockdown fire fighters have seen many residents taking advantage of restrictions to catch up on gardening and maintenance around their homes. Fire & Rescue NSW and local Blue Mountain stations are encouraging residents to take advantage of this time and continue to prepare their homes for future bush fire seasons. Part of this can include adopting your nearest fire hydrant and keeping it clean. Check out the Fire & Rescue NSW website for more information.

17.01.2022 Save the app that could save your life. ‘Emergency +’ is a national app developed by Australia's emergency services and their Government and industry partners, ...helping people to call the right number at the right time, anywhere in Australia. The app uses a mobile phone's GPS functionality so callers can provide emergency call-takers with their location information as determined by their smart phone. ‘Emergency+’ also includes SES and Police Assistance Line numbers as options, so non-emergency calls are made to the most appropriate number. When calling Triple Zero (000), remember to stay focused, stay relevant, and stay on the line. Before you call, ask yourself: * Is someone seriously injured or in need of urgent medical help? * Is your life or property being threatened? * Have you just witnessed a serious accident or crime? If you answered 'Yes' to any of these questions, call Triple Zero (000). Triple Zero calls are free. Important if there is no mobile coverage on any network, you will not be able to reach the Emergency Call Service via a mobile phone.

17.01.2022 After completing skills maintenance training at the Emergency Services Academy at Orchard Hills, in structural fire fighting, there is time for a quick photo.

16.01.2022 IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

16.01.2022 A Total fire ban has been declared for Sunday 29th November for the Greater Sydney Area. The Fire Danger Rating is Severe. A total fire ban means no fires out in the open. A total fire ban helps limit the potential of fires developing. During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire.... General purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) are not to be done in the open. If you come across or see an unintended fire please call 000 and give the operator as much accurate information as you can regarding the location. To assist with the location download the Emergency Plus App, which now has What3Words feature to advise you of your location down to 3m x 3m. https://emergencyapp.triplezero.gov.au/ For more information - https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//fdr-and-t/total-fire-ban-rules

12.01.2022 STORM RESPONSE | As last night’s storm traveled east across most of Sydney, FRNSW answered 351 Triple Zero (000) calls between 6pm and 9pm. While some of these ...calls were directed to the NSW SES and NSW Rural Fire Service, we assigned 204 vehicles to 154 incidents ranging from wires down across the area, to a tree down on a train near East Richmond and a major fire in Ashfield. 12.01.2022 "It was just before midnight and I smelled the smoke. We saw embers in the rear so we closed the windows, and I told my parents to get ready to evacuate. I ran ...to my neighbor's house, and since I know my neighbors I noticed everyone was outside except for the gentleman I always say 'hi' to. I wasn't thinking, I guess it was just my training, I just went in there and I found him all the way in the rear. I told him that I have to get you out, that we have to go. He said he was going to walk but there was no time. The door was getting charred and I could see the flames going. So I made the decision to pick him up and I took him outside. Everybody was outside safe so I ran back to my own house. I got both my parents and my dog outside. I watched the fire spread, and there was nothing we could do. We lost everything. It's unfortunate but we'll get through it. I'm just happy that we all got out safe," says FDNY Firefighter Piotr Orlowski, Engine 202, who was off-duty, at home on Saturday night when he ran into his neighbor's burning home on 74th Street in Brooklyn to rescue him from a fire. The fire grew to a fifth alarm, and due to high winds, extended to Firefighter Orlowski's own home next door. Twelve Firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries while battling the fire, and both homes were destroyed. FDNY Chief Kevin Woods, Staten Island Borough Commander, says, "He went in to search the fire apartment without the protection of a charged hose line. He used his training, he used his skills, and he used his abilities, and he was able to search that entire apartment as it was filling with smoke and filling with fire. In total, twelve occupants from both buildings were safely evacuated. Due to his training, his skills, and abilities, Firefighter Orlowski saved a life." The cause of the fire is under investigation by FDNY Fire Marshals. See more

07.01.2022 Mayor Bill de Blasio today announced the FDNY Incident Management Team (IMT), comprised of 50 FDNY members, has deployed to Pacific Valley Station, California, ...to support the containment effort for the Dolan fire that is currently devastating the Central Coast region. This two-week deployment is the largest ever single FDNY Incident Management Team deployment to a wildland fire. The IMT will be assisting with managing the operations, planning, and logistics for the containment effort, which is extremely difficult because the Dolan Fire is up against steep terrain that is inaccessible to most fire suppression efforts. To combat this difficulty, FDNY IMT will be utilizing drones to locate hotspots so that helicopters can fly in large buckets of water to extinguish the fire, supervising the strengthening of existing fire lines, and monitoring the potential spread of fire into additional areas. In addition, the team will be supervising fire units operating across large geographic areas of the forest; tracking all resources, including Firefighting personnel and apparatus; and tracking costs related to equipment, food, and supplies, as well as possible injuries to first responders operating in the fire line area. A separate group of 15 IMT members returned home last week after a two-week deployment to Oregon to assist with containment and management of the Brattain Fire in the Fremont-Winema National Forest. IMTs are federally-trained teams of first responders responsible for overseeing large-scale, long-duration incidents and emergencies, including forest fires, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Following September 11, 2001, an IMT from the US Forestry Service greatly assisted FDNY with the rescue and recovery effort at the World Trade Center site. From this experience, the FDNY IMT was formed to manage incidents here in NYC and across the country. The FDNY IMT consists of more than 300 members from all ranks in the Department, and has responded to multiple national emergencies including forest fires; to New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina; in Broome County, NY following Hurricane Irene, and here in New York City after Hurricane Sandy.

02.01.2022 On Friday, January 22, FDNY Fire Protection Inspectors were conducting an inspection at a warehouse located at 318 Nevins Street in Brooklyn. During the inspect...ion, they found propane cylinders stacked from floor to ceiling, and located in a refrigeration unit. There was a total of 904, 20-pound propane cylinders in the warehouse. Fire Protection Inspectors had local fire units respond, Battalion 32, Engine 239, Engine 226, Engine 219, Ladder 105, Ladder 131, to check for gas leaks. When FDNY Fire Marshals arrived, they were met by Mr. Mohamed Mohamed who is the manager of the building.
