12.01.2022 Today some of our crew members ventured over the island to visit our friends from Mayfield West Fire Station for some training with the aerial appliance. Being ...a station that we respond to a lot of our incidents with, it is important that we are familiar with their appliance and it's capabilities at an incident. See more

03.01.2022 Birmingham Gardens House Fire - 14/02/2019 Smoke Alarm alerts Resident to find house on fire At around 10pm last night crews from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 35...7 Lambton , Mayfield West, Fire + Rescue NSW Wallsend 484 and Cardiff supported by NSW Police Force, NSW Ambulance and the electrical authority attended a house fire in Birmingham Gardens. On arrival crews found a house well alight with all the occupants out and accounted for. Crews commenced firefighting operations containing the fire to the house and preventing it from spreading to properties on either side. Due to the intensity and speed at which the fire evolved part of the roof collapsed along with other parts of the structure. This prevented firefighters from entering the building for offensive internal firefighting, instead forced to attack the fire defensively from outside the structure. The fire was contained after about an hour of operations by around 25 firefighters. Operations continued well into the morning with an exclusion zone around the structure being established due to partial building collapse and asbestos building materials involved. Fire salvage operations and final extinguishment took a further couple of hours. The resident while devastated commented that it was only due to a working smoke alarm that he was alerted to the fire and could escape with his mother. Firefighters commented that hydrants in the area were in need of maintenance with silt and hydrant markings hampering initial operations in obtaining water for the fire trucks. This fortunately did not affect firefighting operations due to on board water storage on all fire trucks. Keep an eye on our page for a follow up story about how you can help us by identifying and maintaining hydrants near your home. - Story 357 'C' Platoon - Photos 357 'C' Platoon SF D.Fuller #smokealarmsDOsavelive #homefiresafetycheck #shortlandhousefire #crawldownlowandgogogo #firehydrants #dontcoveryourwaterhydrant #preparedforanything
