18.01.2022 At 3:26 this morning Fire & Rescue NSW 493 Station Wellington responded to a fire in the waste service area of Wellington Civic Centre. On arrival the fire was advanced and had breached the roof space of the adjoining kitchen which extends to the whole foyer area of the building. A rapid deffensive fire attack knocked the fire down allowing firefighters to force entry to the kitchen. A number of sections were removed from the ceiling giving firefighters access to fire that wa...s progressing through the celing space. Firefighters made a concerted effort to prevent the spread of fire to the main section of the building and through their efforts contained the fire to the waste service area and part of the kitchen ceiling. 280 Station Dubbo responded to provide firefighting support. Thanks to Ambulance, Police, Essential Energy and Dubbo Regional Council for providing support at this incident. Investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire.

13.01.2022 Congratulations to John Hunt on his appointment to Deputy Captain. John joined FRNSW on 1st October 1988 and is a well respected member of the Brigade and the wider community of Wellington. He will bring a wealth of knowledge & experience to his new role. Some great words of encouragement from his daughter Myah who often leaves a message on the station notice board. Might have to get the Deputy Captain to speak to her.

12.01.2022 Great work by the crew from #FireandRescueNSWStation493Wellington faced with a bedroom fully involved in fire and flashing over into the adjoining lounge room, the crew made entry, cooled the flames rolling overhead, advanced to the bedroom and tackled the fire head on. While significant damaged occurred to the room of origin, the owners still have a home. This resulted only through the quick action of the occupant in calling 000 after being alerted by a smoke detector and r...apid response by Fire and Rescue NSW. Lesson learnt - make sure you have working & tested smoke detectors in your home. #FRNSW #PreparedforAnything https://www.facebook.com/167725073270869/posts/2253470258029663/

06.01.2022 We are saddened to hear of the passing of one of our past firefighters Howard William Lay. Howard joined Station 493 Wellington on 15th October 1965 and retired on 16th October 2005. Howard was passionate about his time serving the community as a firefighter having attended many major fires in the town.... In latter years Howard assisted at the Wellington Fire Training Centre where recruits from State Training Centre were trained and Station Officer Promotional Programs were held. Rest In Peace Howard - Natures True Gentleman

06.01.2022 Station training on a hot summers night, great opportunity to refresh relay pumping skills for motor driver / pump operators. If a water source is too far away from the fire additional fire engines can be brought in to pump water over a greater distance. With the resources of the Wellington Fire Training Centre three fire engines pumped water in relay to supply the required water to the hose lines. The pump operators maintain communication between each other via radio to make sure all the pump pressures are maintained. We also took the opportunity to commence the annual pressure testing of our hoses to make sure they are in tip top condition.

05.01.2022 FRNSW firefighters are required to attend Station training twice a month and follow a training program that refreshes training for all core and specialist skills. Octobers topic was Hazmat. FRNSW is the legislated combat agency for Hazardous Material Incidents in NSW. Things to consider for our own safety are safe approach, establish safety zones, identify the substance, personal protective clothing, recovering the substance, making the area safe and decontamination of firefighters that handled the substance. Recently the crew from 493 Station Wellington used the Hazmat training resources of the Fire Training Centre - Wellington to conduct their Hazmat training. #frnsw #frnswmedia #preparedforanything #morethanfire #fire #rescue #hazmat #training

04.01.2022 Make sure your family is prepared for anything this cold snap. Before using your fireplace, check your chimney or flue is clean and ensure you use dry, seasoned wood. Painted or treated wood should never be used because it can emit toxic fumes. Keep the fire contained to your fire place. Always place a fire screen in front of your fireplace to prevent embers and sparks setting nearby items alight. Always keep combustibles clear of heaters. Remember keep a metre from the hea...ter. If a fire does occur, get out, stay out and call triple zero 000. For more fire safety tips visit fire.nsw.gov.au/winter #PreparedForAnything #AnyoneAnywhereAnytime
