25.01.2022 Congratulations to our friends from Menai Rural Fire Brigade for their hard efforts. Well done team! Menai Fire and Rescue has a long standing relationship with our counterparts in the RFS and we work hand in hand together.
21.01.2022 RIP Retired Chief Officer Stan Hearn AFSM. Stan joined NSW Fire Brigades in 1956 and rose through the ranks to become the 19th Chief Officer between 1991 - 1994. Stan was instrumental in modernising the fire service at the time. Our thoughts are with his family.
19.01.2022 Today at 12:50pm Menai Fire Station was called to a car fire on the Bangor Bypass under the Carter St overpass. Fortunately we arrived on scene quickly and were able to extinguish the fire. The fire started in the engine bay and extended into the dash of the car. The driver was able to exit the car quickly and didn’t suffer any injuries.
19.01.2022 On this day 24 years ago, in the early hours of the 3rd November 1996, The historic Como Hotel was engulfed in flames with 3 people reported trapped in the burn...ing building. Sutherland firefighters arrived on scene and were faced with the upper levels totally involved in flame. The crew performed a miraculous rescue under extreme fire conditions of two women and a child. Subsequently, Sutherland firefighters were awarded bravery commendations with one firefighter awarded the highest honour for NSW firefighters, the FRNSW Medal for Conspicuous Bravery. This medal has only been awarded 26 times in the history of FRNSW. #FRNSW #sutherlandshire #preparedforanything See more
17.01.2022 HAZARD REDUCTION ADVISORY - WEDNESDAY 28 & THURSDAY 29 APRIL - ROYAL NATIONAL PARK Subject to conditions National Parks and Wildlife Service are set to undertak...e the remainder of a 764 hectare hazard reduction (HR) burn in the Royal National Park (RNP) tomorrow. The Wattamolla HR will commence late Wednesday (28/4) afternoon and will continue over a number of days. The burn is located between Wattamolla Road, Sir Betram Stevens Drive, Bundeena Drive and the Little Marley fire trail. The burn once completed will protect assets in the area, including the large amount of people who visit the Wattamolla precinct during the warmer months. Fire operations will include resources from a number of agencies including the NSW Rural Fire Service. The area was last burnt during the January 1994 bush fires when over 90% of the RNP was impacted. Due to the HR being adjacent to Bundeena and Sir Bertram Stevens Drive, traffic control will be in place and will result in some delays to ensure the safety to both motorists and firefighters. Current forecasts identify smoke is likely to blow to the south of the Shire.

17.01.2022 On this day 19 years ago, 343 Firefighters ran into the World Trade Center doing their job and never returned . 60 Police Officers didn’t return home from... that shift. 8 EMT/Paramedics heard their last call and didn’t return home. Today we remember their bravery and sacrifice. New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Fire and Rescue NSW

07.01.2022 A post from Inspector Scott Deller from our RFS friends. I need the help of those who reside adjacent to or near the bush in the Forbes Creek valley area. Yesterday a Koala was observed in the bush opposite to Kilmarnock Road. The reason for this post is the RFS will be conducting a burn in this area on Saturday and need to ensure our furry friend is not injured. The Koala was only identified due to some birds who were noisy paying it some unwanted attention. Whilst we will conduct a survey of the site, potentially from the air, we need your help. If you could share and follow up with your networks, it would be most appreciated!
