01.01.2022 **A Message from our Commissioner, Paul Baxter** Each type of emergency or incident that occurrs in NSW has a lead agency. Where the RFS Commissioner enacts Par...t 3, (Coordinated Bush Firefighting) section 44 of the Rural Fires Act (1997), FRNSW supports the RFS. The RFS Commissioner will appoint an Incident Controller for any particular fire who may be from any agency, including FRNSW. The overall intent is to provide for coordinated efforts and control which makes sense when there are multiple fire agencies in NSW. FRNSW has a lot of resources so we have played and will continue to play a significant role in support with thousands of our firefighters already having deployed all over the state this season. Large bushfire coordination is undertaken at the RFS State Operations Centre at Olympic Park, in this building is a very large open room with all the different agencies working together. FRNSW’s Bushfire and Aviation section is permenantly based there and when bushfires escalate FRNSW will activate the BICC which is the Bushfire Incident Coordination Centre. In this video, Superintendent David Tchappet takes you behind the scenes at FRNSW’s BICC. I’m sure you’ll agree it’s an impressive operation. Thank you to all the teams involved. Please take care out there everyone ! Paul #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire #NSWFires #AFAC #frnswmedia
