23.01.2022 STATEWIDE TOTAL BAN - A statewide total fire ban has been declared for Monday and Tuesday due to dangerous and catastrophic fire conditions across NSW. Catastr...ophic fire danger is forecast for the Greater Sydney and Greater Hunter areas on Tuesday 12 November 2019, due to worsening weather conditions. Now is the time to ensure you have a bush fire survival plan at https://www.myfireplan.com.au

23.01.2022 ONE YEAR ON | Today we remember the three US crew members on board Coulson Aviation’s Tanker 134, who perished in a devastating crash last year while fighting o...ne of the worst bushfires in NSW’s history. Our thoughts are with their loved ones and all those affected by the tragedy. The incident is a stark reminder of the dangers our firefighters and other emergency workers face to keep our community safe. If you need support, mental health services and resources can be found on the NSW Health website: https://fal.cn/3cUZ9. #MoreThanFire #Community

21.01.2022 Your swimming pool could have a bigger purpose this summer! With bushfire season commencing, we urge any residents that have a pool, water tank or dam to sign u...p to our Static Water Supply (SWS) program. By displaying this free sign on your letterbox, firefighters can identify where there is an emergency water supply available to protect your home and possessions. 20.01.2022 GOSPERS MOUNTAIN FIRE UPDATE 6:00AM SATURDAY 21/12 Yesterday saw significant fire activity in and around the Greater Lithgow region, and with a severe fire da...nger today, authorities admit they face significant challenges once again. The situation this morning sees fires at both the State Mine Gully through to Scenic Hill having being controlled through the night, with containment lines put in place earlier in the week paying dividends for fire crews today. The Marrangaroo fire from yesterday afternoon has been contained overnight and through the early hours of this morning. Similarly, strategic back-burning overnight and this morning in and around Cullen Bullen and the nearby Mount Piper Power Station has helped secure strategic assets in those areas. The RFS says this morning that strategies have been put in place, along with further containment lines. At first light today the RFS has suggested the fire was within approximately 1 kilometre of the Power Station, and slightly closer than that to the coal stores. For the Cullen Bullen township the fire is still active in the Ben Bullen State Forest on both sides of the Castlereagh Highway. Crews have worked through the night and into this morning in an attempt to secure the immediate area. Likewise strategic back-burns at Clarence have assisted with securing strategic assets and property in that area too. RFS & Fire & Rescue NSW crews worked through the night in the Hartley Valley to put in containment lines. However continual spotting has made those efforts difficult. This morning crews continue to put in further containment lines ahead of the forecast 38 degree day. A lot of that work overnight and this morning is focused at Lockyers Track in the valley. Closer to town crews continued their efforts in Oakey Park through to the State Mine, successfully blacking out any flare-ups. The Wolgan Valley is still experiencing fire activity, with trucks and crews on site. Although Wolgan is still an area of great concern, the RFS believes they may have finally gained the upper hand. Glen Davis / Glen Alice crews are still patrolling for hot spots. Lidsdale / Wallerawang Crews have worked overnight patrolling the area, blacking out edges where possible, and extinguishing any flare-ups. So this morning the Rural Fire Service has offered the following advice. Greater Lithgow is experiencing unprecedented conditions, with dry ground like never before. Their advice is that in the event of fire, leaving early is the safest option. If youre not prepared to the highest level, leave early. Only consider staying if your home and property is prepared to the highest level, and your home is constructed and designed to withstand a fire, and youre prepared to defend it yourself. As harsh as it sounds, dont expect a fire truck or aircraft to be available for every home:- its simply unrealistic. Sightseers are being implored to stay away from fire grounds. The public is urged to take the advice of fire authorities if issued a request to move on. Fire trucks need immediate access, and maneuvering on-lookers cars in the event of an emergency might end in tragedy. ROAD CLOSURES The Castlereagh Highway remains closed from Tunnel Hill at Lithgow through to the Sofala Rd turn-off at Ilford. Chifley Rd remains closed at Hartley Valley Rd, Lithgow, with no access available to Scenic Hill and beyond. Bells Line of Road remains closed from the Darling Causeway through to Kurrajong. The Darling Causeway is closed at both the Mount Victoria end and at the other end at Bell Bells Rd, Lithgow is closed. The RFS say that roads can be closed with little or no notice as the fire activity changes. If at all possible, today would be a good day to perhaps reconsider your travel arrangements if they are not overly necessary. Transport for NSW advises buses are replacing trains between Lithgow and Mount Victoria due to a bushfire near the rail line at Mount Victoria. Those buses are unable to access Bell and Zig Zag stations due to the road closure. Another reminder theres a Total Fire Ban in force until at least midnight. Please stay safe today

20.01.2022 The crew from 423 Portland join forces with other nswfb and bushfire brigade in Lidsdale, where firefighters are fighting a large bushfire thats threatening numerous homes and properties in the area. A number of sheds have been destroyed in the fire, but all houses in Lidsdale have so far been saved due to the massive firefighting effort undertaken by Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service firefighters. Thank you all

18.01.2022 Bushfires can create their own weather, generating pyrocumulonimbus clouds and storms These clouds can cause dangerous and unpredictable changes in fire b...ehaviour, making the fire more difficult and hazardous to fight. So, how do they form? 1. A plume of hot, turbulent air and smoke rises. 2. Turbulence mixes cooler air into the plume, causing it to broaden and cool as it rises. 3. When the plume rises high enough, low atmospheric pressure causes its air to cool and cloud to form. 4. In an unstable atmosphere a thunderstorm can develop: pyrocumulonimbus cloud. 5. Rain in the cloud evaporates and cools when it comes into contact with dry air, producing a downburst. 6. Lightning may be produced and can ignite new fires. Find out more, including how our scientists are working to be able to predict them, in our blog: http://ow.ly/3t1i50x8nM6 For the latest fire weather warnings see http://ow.ly/tbTN50x8nz8, and follow advice from emergency services NSW Rural Fire Service Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES ABC Emergency

15.01.2022 What a start to the year in #Communications!! Already we have exceeded 50,000 incidents this year. This is well above our average and will have us over 300,000... for 2020. All these calls have been handled by the combined efforts of both Newcastle and Sydney Communication Centers. The increase in calls is due to the intense #Bushfires, #Storms and #Floods we have experienced so far this year. Thankfully in the past 24 hours things have been a little quieter for our crews. Across the State since 0800hrs on 23/2/20202 to 0800hrs 24/02/2020 we have had: 391 Incidents in Total 31 Motor Vehicle Accidents 13 Car Fires 11 Assist Ambulance Calls and thankfully only 3 House Fires. #FRNSW #MoreThanFire #OurPeople #Culture #Community #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable NSW Rural Fire Service NSW Police Force NSW Ambulance NSW SES

04.01.2022 EMERGENCY WARNING - Gospers Mountain (Lithgow and Hawkesbury LGA) The fire has crossed Wolgan Road and is burning in the Ben Bullen State Forest. The fire is no...w travelling quickly in a northerly direction. If you are in the Wolgan Valley area, it is too late to leave. Seek shelter as the fire approaches. Protect yourself from the heat of the fire.

04.01.2022 Most fire trucks in NSW only carry enough water to make an initial fire attack. Locating a water supply for our fire fighting efforts is one of our first priori...ties. While we may use a pool or water tank or other static supply, we also use fire hydrants that provide water from the street water supply. We sometimes find that residents have laid turf or dirt over the top of hydrants at the front of their house, or a car, trailer or caravan is parked on top of the hydrant. By looking after the hydrant near your home you are helping fire fighters in a fire emergency. There is a chance that fire fighters may be locating a hydrant to save your neighbours, or in fact your own home. The photo below is an example of a cast iron hydrant cover that could be out the front of your home or your neighbours. Theres also some information about the types of markings we use to locate fire hydrants. Help us help you. If you have a hydrant in the front nature strip of your home, please ensure the immediate area around it is clear.

03.01.2022 Watch and Act - Green Wattle Creek fire (Wollondilly LGA) Catastrophic Fire Danger is forecast for this fireground on Saturday 21st December 2019. Conditions wi...ll be very dangerous due to high temperatures, strong and gusty winds and low humidity. This potential fire spread prediction map shows the communities that may come under threat from embers or fire fronts. Other areas surrounding the fire may still come under threat if conditions change such as forecasts, or fires breaking containment lines. Under catastrophic fire danger, your safest option is to leave bush fire prone areas early in the day.
