25.01.2022 The NSW Premier has declared a seven day state of emergency commencing tomorrow. This is the third state of emergency declared this fire season with the previous declaration before these three being in October 2013. This declaration has been made under Section 33 of the State of Emergency and Rescue Management Act 1989. The state of emergency transfers powers currently held by the NSW government to the NSW Rural Fire Service ,Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons... These powers include the ability to: -Direct any government agency to conduct or refrain from conducting its functions; -Control and coordinate the allocation of government resources; -Evacuate people from property within the declared area; -Close roads and thoroughfares to traffic; -Pull down or shore up infrastructure at risk of collapse; -Order the shutdown of essential utilities in the declared area including electricity, gas, oil and water; and -Enter or take possession of property in the course of the emergency response. A TOTAL FIRE BAN is in place for Friday and Saturday in our shire so this means no fires, no hot works are to be conducted outside. If you do and we get called the fire will be immediately be extinguished and if life, property or environment is effected it could result in fines and or jail. Think smart and be fire safe.

04.01.2022 As we count down to the end of 2019 we have taken a look back of what the year has been like for the fire fighters of Wee Waa fire station. We have attended some incidents that have had really good outcomes but also attended some that ended in tragedy. With the beginning of one of the worse starts to a bush fire season seen in recent times we have had some of our crew members join strike teams to help fight the huge fires and along with everyone else pray for substantial rai...n fall. 2019 has has seen 2 of our firefighters reach achievements with Fire and Rescue NSW. Firefighter Travis Small has reached 5 years of service and obtaining 1 stripe & Firefighter Brett Orman rolling over 25 years of service A huge thank you to every emergency service we have worked with throughout the last 12 months. From all the staff from #station506 we would like to wish everyone a safe and happy 2020.
04.01.2022 COVID - 19 UPDATE There are a few changes that have taken place with the way Fire + Rescue NSW operates that you may notice. Some of the changes include:... We are cancelling all non-essential community engagements. This means we wont be able to visit your school or childcare centre to pass on fire safety messages for a while. If you visit a fire station for any non-life-threatening issues we are not going to be able to let you in. You may notice fire trucks at emergencies with firefighters sitting inside. We are minimising the amount of close contact firefighters have between different crews and the community. If you see us sitting in our fire trucks and not getting out, this is not us being rude. Feel free to give us a wave from a distance well still wave back. We wont be able to show your children our fire truck or let them sit in it for a while. We wont be able to shake hands with you for a while. Behind the scenes we are doing a lot of hard work to continuously decontaminate our trucks, uniforms and fire stations to ensure us and our community are protected. Its paramount that we have healthy firefighters able to respond, 24/7. Thank you for understanding, we could not do this without our communities ongoing support. Please remember this will not not stop us attending emergencies. #FRNSW #COVID19
03.01.2022 . All permits are cancelled including private fireworks. Its not worth it and we do not want to be attending fires caused by stupid behaviour
03.01.2022 Last night our crew along side crews from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 399 Narrabri completed our October Practical Hazmat component part of our monthly station training program. As part of this drill we were tasked to to enter to hot zone in Fully Encapsulated Suits to relay back information on the unmarked container to the Incident Controller & Hazmat Controller. Once the information was found by the hazmat controller on the laptop we were able to safely move the mock substance into a suitable hazmat bin and render the area safe than run through the decontamination process. Thanks to the 399 crew for coming out with the Hazmat Van and Tanker.
03.01.2022 An important message from Fire and Rescue NSW: Wheat bags can ignite, and are not designed to replace hot water bottles for warming beds. Regularly check your w...heat bag for signs of wear and tear or scorching. With age the fillings dry out and become combustible. Only use wheat bags for direct application to body aches and pains. 03.01.2022 Call for more on-call firefighters at Wee Waa Fire Station . 3 positions left to be filled to help our community. Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is calling for community-minded men and women to consider joining the retained (on-call) firefighter ranks at Wee Waa Fire Station. Retained firefighters are on call from home or work to respond to fires and other emergencies. There are currently 3 vacancies for retained firefighters at Wee Waa Fire Station.... Captain Bruce Cowan urged residents from all walks of life to consider becoming a retained firefighter. Your local fire station relies on people in the community to put their hand up to become firefighters without that support, regional fire stations cannot survive, he said. Retained firefighters balance work and family commitments to respond to fires and other emergencies on an ‘on call’, part-time basis. Captain Cowan said training includes advanced first aid, heavy vehicle driving, and how to deal with emergencies such as fires, road accidents and hazardous material spills. Firefighters also educate the community on fire safety and prevention. Retained firefighters are on call, however this does not mean that you have to be available every minute of every day, he said. Sharing availability with other retained firefighters can reduce any potential impact on work and private life. FRNSW Commissioner Paul Baxter said retained firefighters played a critical role in the delivery of fire and emergency services across regional and rural NSW. You don’t need to be superman or superwoman to be a firefighter we want people who are reliable and keen to help others, especially local residents who are available to respond to emergencies during the day, he said. If you’re a local employer, think about encouraging your staff to become firefighters. Not only will you be helping the community, but your staff will be trained in a whole range of skills. For more information on becoming a retained firefighter, contact the FRNSW Zone Office on 02 57328400, visit www.fire.nsw.gov.au or send us a message on our Facebook page.

A quick response from the Ambulance Service had the rider stable and administering pain relief prior to our arrival. 01.01.2022 Change your clocks, check your smoke alarms. Working smoke alarms help save lives. You must have at least one working smoke alarm on each level of the home placed between bedrooms and living areas, its the law. #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable
01.01.2022 18 years ago at 10:46 pm (AEST) we learnt of the horror unfolding in New York City. 2977 people who lost in their lives in these tragic events, of which 343 were firefighters, 23 were New York City Police officers and 37 were officers of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Alongside firefighters and emergency services workers, we pause and pay our respects to those who we will never forget and we also think of those who are sick now or have since died due to their exposure to hazardous dusts and materials while operating at the site for many months after.
