25.01.2022 So glad that Eden Gardens decided to move today’s market undercover!
23.01.2022 The snails are coming! Getting ready for next week’s showcase on Handmade Alchemy - I’ll have these (they are earring pairs) and plenty more for sale over there from 14-16 August. Wait... how can it be August already?
23.01.2022 It never rains but it pours...
21.01.2022 Experimenting with how to make a chambered nautilus effect, third time’s the charm!
20.01.2022 One of my favourite, and sadly discontinued, colours - known affectionately as EDP or evil devitrifying purple because of its tendency to form a nasty whitish crusty look when worked if not kept really hot.
20.01.2022 Such spectacular views on a sparkling day, yet somehow I am always drawn to the details. There are a lot of amazing mushies and toadstools around after all the recent rain. #northernbeachessydney #rollingclouds #oceanviews #fungiofinstagram #itsthelittlethings
20.01.2022 Blisteringly hot day for our first market of the year and we were overwhelmed by the support from everyone, huge thank you to all the lovely people who visited and to Cassie and her team at the #northernbeachescouncil who worked so hard to make it such a great day. This lovely customer decided she needed ALL the #daisychains and doesn’t she look great?! #heatwave #northernbeachessydney #handmademarkets #bigdayout #beachmarkets #lovemyjob #thankyouforyoursupport #handmade #flamework #lampwork #seedbeadstitching
19.01.2022 No rest for the wicked, I’m going straight from my open studio weekend into my showcase on Handmade Alchemy Facebook group. Here’s a small selection of what will be on offer, starting tomorrow, hope you can stop by for a look.
17.01.2022 Current evening obsession, using up tiny scraps to handstitch little owls. I found the idea at www.annewoodhandmade
17.01.2022 So this is what happens with some #latenightdoodling after finishing a #stephenking novel Thanks very much @quebigg !! #watercolourpainting #doodles #littlebitcreepy #youneverknow #whatliesbeneath #painteveryday #watercolour #letsseewhathappensifidothis #danielsmithwatercolors #lovelunarblack #practicemakesprogress #dailypainting
17.01.2022 My next showcase on the Handmade Alchemy group starts tomorrow morning, hope to see some of you there. Love doing a show where I can stay in my pjs all day and not have to go out!
17.01.2022 What the world needs now...
17.01.2022 A happy half hour yesterday painting these ‘dancing ladies after watching @jeanhaines free tutorials on her website. What fun! Much more my style of swatching than those nearly ruled off little boxes. #watercolourmagic #swatches #freetutorials #colourmyworld #watercolourinspiration #colourmakesmehappy
15.01.2022 First experiment on rough paper using different sides and my new favourite #pullacolouroutatrandom technique, here’s two I never would have thought to put with #prussiangreen but what delicious combinations they turned out to be! #ilovewatercolour #swatchthis #danielsmithwatercolors #quinacridonecoral #quinacridonegold #betterlatethanneverart
12.01.2022 Mmm, #granulatingwatercolor colours... #intuitivepainting #roseofultramarine #watercolourpainting #lunarblue #cascadegreen @danielsmithartistsmaterials
11.01.2022 Shiny shiny shells, I’m busy getting ready for the Arcadian Artists Trail. Now to make some bases for these, smoke permitting... it’s very apocalyptic here this morning. I don’t know how firefighters do it, working so hard in far worse conditions than this, but very very glad that they do.
11.01.2022 When smoke gets in your eyes, nose, throat... I haven’t been able to spend much time torching this month. Plenty of time to be catching up on admin and other neglected tasks, and now they are more or less done it’s time to pull out the seed beads and see what happens. Pretty happy with yesterday’s efforts, made a few pairs of these snowflakes in various colours and even had a couple of hours torchtime between wind shifts.
11.01.2022 So very glad I managed to squeeze in a holiday with my lovely daughter @quebigg before coming home to a cancelled Christmas and second lockdown for those of us on the #northernbeachessydney
11.01.2022 Spent a lovely afternoon yesterday remembering how much fun it is to play with beads and just see what happens. And goodness knows I have plenty of beads to play with...
09.01.2022 My lovely daughter and I have set up a new page to showcase our available earrings and pendants, you can find us @glass.mad The best thing about doing this is getting to spend lots more time talking to each other, the next best thing to a visit!
09.01.2022 And now for something completely different, I've been having fun sculpting teeny tiny antlers today.
08.01.2022 Colour!! It is easy to get lost in the multiple fractal worlds that magically appear with the simple addition of water to pigment. . . . .... . #acrylicinks #waterplayallday #fractals #colourlove #beginnings #givemealltheartsupplies See more
06.01.2022 Some days are just like this... #lampworklife #fridayfunny @glass.mad #alittlebirdtoldme #itshothothot #keepturning #flameworkersofig
06.01.2022 I admire artists and makers who are single-focused but I have never been able to stick to just one thing, there are far too many interesting options out there to explore. Even while glass has been my primary focus for many years I’ve also always had an active sketching habit as well as writing, textiles and seed beading, along with many other shorter-lived pursuits. Hello to my latest obsession #gelliplate #prints
05.01.2022 First Glebe market for the year, hope to see you there!
05.01.2022 I learned yesterday that the little curls depicted on Buddha’s head in statues and images represent the snails who covered his bald head to protect him from the sun while he was resting. Here are some descendants of those thoughtful little gastropods.
04.01.2022 My November showcase has started over on the Handmade Alchemy group and will be running until tomorrow night. Hope you can come over and have a look at the latest offerings, the only thing burned was me! First time in 16 years.... must be getting clumsy.
03.01.2022 Last year in lockdown I started at least 3 different #artjournals and the one on the right was my #findyourjoy #visualdiary So satisfying to have filled it with months of experiments and notes and to have this bound record of the last few months and see my progress, mostly #watercolours and #inks but a little bit of #acrylicpainting as well. Even more satisfying to have started filling the new one!... #journallover #fillthemup #artlab #practicepracticepractice #draw #paint #artsanity #reference #getorganised #artjournaleveryday
03.01.2022 The dolphins are coming.... see them tomorrow and Friday, on Handmade Alchemy, along with a whole lot of other new goodies.
02.01.2022 Time to get back into the glass studio, it’s tricky having divided loyalties, what to do? Soft glass, hard glass, painting, writing? Making another cup of coffee is usually the first step!
02.01.2022 Its been a couple of weeks since I fed my sourdough starter and it was not looking happy. Popped it in a clean dish with flour and warm water and then set it in a larger pot with an inch or so of hot water, and the lid on. A few hours later and wow! It smells nice and yeasty and looks very alive again, yay.
01.01.2022 Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things after this long, hot, difficult summer. I'll be away in February so next showcase after this one will be in March.
