17.01.2022 As the Bush fire season is upon us it is a timely reminder to make sure everyone is not only safe on the fire ground but safe when your shift has finished. *Wash your PPE at your station at the end of your shift * Wipe your skin with wipes including the back of your neck * Wipe your helmet inside with wipes * Shower within the hour... * Wash your clothes separately to your families * Wash your hands before eating on the fire ground This is a photo of the water from a rural fire fighters clothes worn under their PPE, being washed in their laundry sink

08.01.2022 Studies suggest firefighters are at an increased risk of developing certain types of cancer, such as prostate, bladder, kidney, brain, breast, testicular, colorectal, ureter, non-Hodgkins lymphoma, leukaemia, multiple myeloma, oesophageal cancers, due to exposure to carcinogenic particles associated with fire-fighting activities and training. The FCFA is a charity that supports these fire fighters and their families who are facing these struggles. Our friends at Locatrix hav...e become involved with the FCFA, helping with our board meetings, marketing and now fundraising efforts. Locatrix have started a go fund me page to help us to raise much needed funds so that we can help firefighters now and into the future. We are unsure of the effects these catastrophic Bush Fires will have on our firefighters across the country, rest assured that the FCFA will be here to help should any of them need us. Please consider donating so we can keep helping firefighters and their families. https://www.gofundme.com/f/firefighters-cancer-foundation-a

01.01.2022 This is from one of wonderfull volunteers ...... Lots of charities flying around asking for money at the moment but this one appeals to me because I look at the firefighters working away at the moment and I know they are likely to have health struggles down the track. This charity supports our super heroes when they are sick and have trouble asking for help themselves. They are givers - not takers. Studies suggest firefighters are at an increased risk of developing certain ty...pes of cancer, such as prostate, bladder, kidney, brain, breast, testicular, colorectal, ureter, non-Hodgkins lymphoma, leukaemia, multiple myeloma, oesophageal cancers, due to exposure to carcinogenic particles associated with fire-fighting activities and training. The FCFA (Firefighters Cancer Foundation Australia) is a charity that supports these fire fighters and their families who are facing these struggles. I have become involved with the FCFA, helping with their board meetings, marketing and now fundraising efforts this past year. They are a lovely bunch of people making a big difference. Help if you can please. https://www.gofundme.com/f/firefighters-cancer-foundation-a
