25.01.2022 After a few huge curve balls over the last couple of years, then taking some time to reset and explore some amazing places, we've landed back in suburbia. The re-envisioning begins, loving creating a home, finding ways to live regeneratively in a suburban rental. Gardens being created, the local food co-operative found, joined and loved, parks in walking distance, books to read, a final year of study, and so so much to explore with my girls. Oh and Peppermint Geranium, one of today's new editions to the garden. So happy to be collecting plants again #permaculturerental #reenvisioning #unschoollife
23.01.2022 I spent hours writing up individual unschool plans for my girls, sent them away and yesterday got confirmation of our registration. Meanwhile Roblox, completely ignored in our plan has suddenly became a hit at our place. It's the first thing I hear of a morning and last thing at night, with suggestions of other activities mostly ignored, meeting with friends is in, as is eating ... sleeping is debatable if you ask the girls. I woke this morning again to the sound of my girls... sitting together playing, working out solutions, negotiating what they should do next, laughing and completing a mission and instantly thought 'What are the girls getting out of this game and where might it lead?' Rather than try redirect interest back too our 'plans', we follow the girls lead. So researching Roblox some more and I'm led too a gamer created virtual the world of coding, game design, user created games, 2 very interested girls wanting to create games and a Mum who has no idea what she's doing, but will soon be learn alongside the girls. #observeandinteract #creativelyuseandrespondtochange #unschoolpermaculture #unschoollife #roblox https://education.roblox.com/en-us/resources

04.01.2022 Last week on the phone to one of my amazing unschooling friends: So I've got the girls to agree to hold a dinner party with a country theme, they picked Italy. I thought we'd do some craft to decorate, make invitations, create a menu, cook, maybe add in music and games for the night .... Sounds like fun ... maybe? Flag making is underway. (Totally all about me and my needs too see the girls doing something ... 'educational', knowing full well it is all 'educational' ) ... This week: Dinner was a flop ... We were doing ok, the girls created flags, we found some Italian music playlists on Spotify, we looked at maps, the colloseum, talked about Rome, E wrote her siblings names in Italian along with a few simple words, L researched traditional clothes. Then posters ... why I would even think 'oh lets make a poster' ... who does that? Well I did. Literacy ... Oh gosh I did The girls researched, mind mapped things they'd include on a poster, picked what they wanted to include, we found pictures to include and maps. They wrote titles, glued on maps and began writing information .... meh the girls were just not into it, actually they refused to finish it or anything. Given invites had already gone we had 'the dinner' between us we cooked pizza's and tiramisu, that's Italian right? J and her boys came for dinner. The girls chatted about what they knew of Italy ... Ancient Rome, Gladiators, Language, Location, Food, Animals, Colloseum, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Mona Lisa, Leonardo da Vinci, Marco Polo, etc. Meanwhile J decided she liked the idea, so requested it be her turn to hold a country or place themed dinner at her place next month. So not a failure, rather a bunch of reminders about what learning looks like ...... for me. On a side note, I am so grateful for the nearly weekly catch up call. I've not seen my gorgeous friend in months, these calls can be a bit of a lifeline and often come with good advice, a funny story and or a reminder of not only how lucky we are but how amazing we are too. #unschoollife #permacultureunschool #whoseunschoolingwho #observeandinteract #selfregulateandacceptfeedback
