20.01.2022 Internal Family Systems (IFS) & Trauma Polyvagal Theory is a 'collection of evolutionary, neuroscientific and psychological claims pertaining to the role of the vagus nerve in emotion regulation, social connection and fear response' (wikipedia). This graphic looks at combining Polyvagal Theory and IFS for working with trauma.... This graphic was recently shared by Growtherapy: Child & Adolescent Mental Health & Wellbeing (highly recommend following) and was created by Ruth Culver (IFS Somatic Psychotherapist). The graphic is a useful tool to share with your teams in helping to understand a trauma approach when working with children in OSHC. Perhaps use it as a resource to start a conversation, work on in a staff meeting, get others opinions and thoughts - get the conversation and thought process going. 18.01.2022 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child - Child-friendly Version Did you know there are 6 guiding principles that underpin the National Quality Framework (NQF) and the first one, 'The Rights and Best Interests of the Child are Paramount', is where the NQF first aligns with these rights. It is stated in the Guide to the NQF (page 10) and in My Time, Our Place (page 4), but is often missed. Do you utilise these in your service?... Are your staff aware of them? Are your children? Are your families? The Child-friendly version linked to below are a great resource to share with others and have on display in your centre. But also just important, do you know why we have them? 'The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is an important agreement by countries who have promised to protect children’s rights. The Convention on the Rights of the Child explains who children are, all their rights, and the responsibilities of governments. All the rights are connected, they are all equally important and they cannot be taken away from children.' For the child-friendly version, head to Unicef to download your copy (image is just a snapshot) https://www.unicef.org//convention-rights-child-child-frie Keep that learning journey going #oshc #oosh #basc #fireflyhr #sharing #information #continuous #learning #awareness #NQF

17.01.2022 We were recently asked about displayed information. We have shared information on the prescribed information to be displayed as set out in Regulation 197. But is there anything else we should ensure we are displaying? There are a few other regulations which outline documents must be displayed and/or accessible to parents of the children in care including the menu and educational program. * We are very aware that OSHC is often spontaneous and flexible which means that sometime...s what we have planed for the menu or program may change. Ensure these changes are updated on the displayed documents to ensure they are up-to-date & families and children are able to access correct information about the Service. Have you got these documents on display? Need some help in ensuring your service is compliant? Firefly HR offers consultancy services where we can come out and support you in ensuring compliance, as well as offering mentorship for your team. For more information give us a call or email at [email protected]
