24.01.2022 Well the rain has been fantastic after nearly 2 yrs of drought. It's great to see some green grass coming through for the horses. It is however, making it difficult to schedule dates for my kids equine school holiday programs so i will be putting out weekly emails to those who are interested as weekly forecasts are available for days with best temps and low to no chance of rain. Email [email protected] if you are interested and want to be notified when these are scheduled.
24.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Hope you are all well. Spring is well and truly here and term 3 is almost done. Where has this year gone!!! Due to large events being cancelled I have taken on some ponies for training and they will be here over the school holidays so it will be a good opportunity for some of my more advanced students to see/assist in their training to further their knowledge and skills with a variety of horses other than mine.... School Holiday Programs Having fun with horses with games based learning is the emphasis of these days as well as learning all about the care and needs of horses. As i did last holidays i will make the schedule flexible so people can pick and choose what suits: Full day 9-5pm Half days 9-12pm or 2-5pm I will adjust the content according to group and their ability. Minimum of 3 maximum of 6 for each time slot. Holidays run from September 19 to October 5 Book asap as these fill fast. If interested in these, please let me know the days you can do or not do and the name, age and experience of your child if they have not been before and i will let you know what is available in the week before the holidays commence. Regular weekend group clinics These clinics are for those who want to advance their skills with horses, who either own a horse or want to own one in the future. Usually held on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month 9-12pm or 2-5pm Minimum 4 maximum 8 otherwise normal lesson rates apply Individual lessons Whatever your goals are with horses i will be able to assist you to achieve them whether it be riding for pleasure, competing at different horse sports or earning a living with horses. Available 2-6pm 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month and 2-6pm every Sunday Special Event October 31 is the 5th and extra Saturday for the month so i will be organising another trail ride to somewhere interesting again. We went to Wyaralong Dam horse trails in August and it was great. Some students took their own horses and some rode mine. Here is some pics from this year of just a few of my students and amazing team of horses.
24.01.2022 Well August came and went and i just realised i forgot to post an update. Was pretty busy with lessons, kids clinics and markets. One notable day though was a mother/daughter bonding afternoon where we let the horses come and choose who they wanted to work with. We opened the gate to my undercover yard firstly to the boy herd and surprisingly no takers!!! That is unheard of as there is some real socialites among them. Shut that gate and opened the other one to the mare and mi...ni herd and half a dozen or so of them came in to teach us some stuff. I guess they picked up on the fact it was a mother daughter day!!!!!! I showed the daughters how i see if the horses want to be ridden or not and they did it and and got to ride a couple of the ponies bareback with just a bit of string around the nose. My pally mare and one spotty small pony came in but said no to the kids. When that happens it usually means they want to participate but they want me to ride them lol. So i got up on the mounting and asked her if she wanted me to ride her. She came over literally doing little talky noises at me the whole time and let me get on then promptly took me out the gate and over to the trailer where i feed her. Talk about show me exactly what you want lol. Rode her back into yard to mounting block and dismounted and asked the pony and he came over and took me for a little ride around the yard. It's always interesting what happens when we let the horses lead the way instead of just dictating what will happen. We then picked the best horses for the riders abilities and went out for a ride through the forest to relax and let the learning sink in. Will do another post for September/October upcoming events. Stay tuned for school holiday Kids Equine Holiday Schedule. Will be a special time with some foals due during the holidays.
16.01.2022 Just doing individual lessons atm to keep in line with virus rules and catching up with a backlog of things i usually don't get time to do when i am busy (including posting on here...... been about 5 months!!!!!) Foals are all born and i started weaning them because i needed some of the mares back but with everything cancelled now i have bushed them all back together. Some mares have taken them back, some have not. Maybe i will get time now to get some good shots of them and ...post. My future team!!!! Pictured is old Moey, my oldest boy at 25 yrs. I have his great granddaughters coming up as rising two year olds. He is mostly retired now but occasionally he is the only man for the job at hand. My little 3 1/2 yr old student didn't want to ride a small pony today, wanted a big horse....... so we practised steering thru the forest playing the hot and cold game til we found the foal statue that was hidden in the forest. So if you are going stir crazy cooped up inside, book some horse therapy out in the sun and boost your immune system. You won't catch it off horses. See more
15.01.2022 Even though people often said their horse would bite my disabled brother, they never did. He would put his head down near their mouth and let them sniff his hair. Horses know.
14.01.2022 Having lots of fun with kids and horses this school holidays. Dates are being organised week to week this year due to weather rapidly fluctuating. Sending out emails weekly to those who register their interest.
11.01.2022 Looking for something different for your kids this coming school holidays?
10.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Yes it has finally rained!!! One of my ponies just loves to swim in dam and play in water. Caught her playing in the rain water on top of a drum. Stood there for ages playing in it until the boss mare came over and tipped it over and spoilt her fun. Only a week to go until the Easter break! April is full of events this year requiring my horses, ponies and donkeys but i have pencilled in these dates for kids programs so if you are interested please let me know asa...p as there is minimum and maximum numbers for these to go ahead. There is something to suit most people’s time constraints and budgets and working with horses in small groups enables children to get more one-on-one attention and the social benefits of being with other children and participating in the games based learning approach that working in groups allows and that my horses are specifically trained for. Children learn to be competent around horses on the ground and in the saddle and with a variety of horses and also how to care for them if they wish to own a horse in the future. April 6 2-5pm $60 Minimum of 2, maximum of 4 April 9-11 9-3pm $180 Minimum of 4, maximum of 8 April 13 9-12pm $60 Minimum of 2, maximum of 4 April 27 9-3pm $90 Minimum of 4, maximum of 8 April 28 2-5pm $60 Minimum of 2, maximum of 4 Individual lessons are also available for those who have specific goals they would like to work on. 07.01.2022 I often ask myself this. My solution was to walk out into the paddock and stand on a stump or log with a saddle cloth and a bit of rope and my cue whip and see what the horses would do. Many of them do in fact come over and do not object to being ridden like that. In general they do not like bits and tell me in no uncertain terms, although the occasional one does seem to like to have something to chew on. Many do not like having a tight girth or saddle on but are ok bareback. Some do not like bareback if your boney butt digs into their back. Humans should just listen to their horses more i think.
05.01.2022 Hope you are all keeping well. With big events still mostly cancelled i am offering more workshops at my place and interest has been high. We have to be flexible in these interesting times! I am also considering taking in a few outside horses to train for other people. Saturday 29th This is the first day of the school holidays and I am having an OPEN DAY here at my place. Bring a picnic lunch along and commune with the animals and experience the magic and inspiration that they have to offer. I will be doing some demonstrations with my animals (horses, ponies, donkeys, goats, dogs) doing tricks and liberty (free and off lead in the open paddock) If my regular students want to be involved in some of the demonstrations let me know. There will be led pony rides and a treasure hunt in the forest for the little kids. Time:10am-3pm Cost: $25/person Bookings essential and pre-paid by Friday 21st June. The drought is really starting to hit hard so proceeds from this will help feed the animals through the worst part of the winter. Tell your friends or anyone you think might be interested in a fun day out with lots of really cool animals.
02.01.2022 It's a colt!!! Born 8am yesterday. Blue-eyed perlino like mum. Her first foal but she is doing a great job. He took a while to find where to drink as he was a bit tall. I tried various things to help him but he wouldn't cooperate so i milked her and he drank it from a bowl then eventually came while i was milking and sucked my finger then finally latched on to teat about 5 hours after he was born. Sire is a chocolate brown arab appaloosa but carries the cream gene. Some more due in first week of the school holidays. A big bonus for the kids attending my school holiday programs.
