HAVE YOU BEEN NAUGHTY OR NICE THIS YEAR? I've always been naughty IF YOU HAD TO BE TRAPPED IN A CHRISTMAS MOVIE, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE? Die Hard ONE CHRISTMAS WISH THAT YOU (DONNER) THINK SANTA CLAUS SHOULD GRANT THIS YEAR? I just want my son to talk to me WHAT DOES THIS PLAY MAKE YOU RECONSIDER ABOUT CHRISTMAS? This play makes me think how illogical Christmas can be as a whole and how fundamentally tied to religion it is but essentially the story itself contradicts all things the Christian religion tells us. WHAT DO YOU HOPE AUDIENCES TAKE AWAY FROM THIS PLAY? I think audiences will walk away thinking about sexual assault, how devastating it is, how rumour and gossip changes peoples lives and how truth and lies are twisted to shape our beliefs and views. I hope they question their perspectives and identify areas in their lives where maybe they haven't done the right thing, or have treated a situation insensitively. I hope it changes peoples ideas, I hope people take about it, I hope people laugh and cry and grow. I hope men see how lucky we have it and women bond together to support each other and men see how integral their role is in creating an equal and enjoyable society. I hope people stand up and say no. HAVE YOU BEEN NAUGHTY OR NICE THIS YEAR? A little bit of both IF YOU HAD TO BE TRAPPED IN A CHRISTMAS MOVIE, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE? Love Actually ONE CHRISTMAS WISH THAT YOU THINK SANTA CLAUS SHOULD GRANT THIS YEAR? My wish for Christmas is that every single person is safe, fed, clothed and has a roof over their head and for those who have these luxuries already, for them to be able to give without expecting anything in return. WHAT DOES THIS PLAY MAKE YOU RECONSIDER ABOUT CHRISTMAS? WHAT DO YOU HOPE AUDIENCES TAKE AWAY FROM THIS PLAY? (Combined response) Even when I was little I wanted to hear more about Mrs Claus and her story. And although the story of Santa, his elves and mostly all male fleet had been constructed a very long time ago, when women had little to no rights and were just "seen" and not heard, today it is resoundingly obvious that she has no role in the preparations of Christmas and is never really acknowledged for... well anything really. The play presents Mrs Claus as a bit of a drunken sleaze but I also see her as a victim. I feel there is a lot of control over her by Santa, hence why she tries to find connection elsewhere and has a heathy drinking appetite! The obvious issue, is the one of sexual harassment and its ramifications for victims. The play allows us to address our own judgements of the victims and their attackers and enables us to re-explore our choices and values that may accentuate these judgements we make. Changing your own mindset can be contagious as long as we are open to having these conversations and thankfully they can be brought up in different texts and forms for example, this play. It empowers us to think twice before we grope or smack or leer or inappropriately touch or make lewd comments to ANYONE. Don’t miss seeing Lele as BLITZEN in The Eight: Reindeer Monologues.
