10.01.2022 On 15 October 1970, tragedy struck when the West Gate Bridge suddenly collapsed into the Yarra. Firefighters from nearby Spotswood (FS45), Newport (FS42) and Footscray (FS47) Fire Stations rushed to the aid of construction workers who were trapped in the wreckage and extinguished fires that broke out as a result of the collapse. Today, 50 years on from the harrowing incident, FRV firefighters attended the memorial to remember those who lost their lives and paid tribute to the emergency service personnel who attended.
10.01.2022 At 2:40pm on Monday 23 November, FRV firefighters from FS87 (Dandenong) and FS78 (Morwell) were called to support CFA in a high angle Rescue involving a car down a steep embankment in Walhalla. The occupants were rescued and transported to hospital all okay. Afterwards, the crew were keen to get a picture outside the Walhalla Fire Station! #WeWorkAsOne #WalhallaFireStation

09.01.2022 Firefighters were called out to a blaze at a furniture factory in Brunswick around 3:30am this morning. Arriving in six minutes, firefighters took just under four hours to get it under control and required a number of specialist units to assist. Although access to the fire was initially an issue, firefighters were able to extinguish it without it spreading to any nearby structures. The Watch & Act message provided to residents early this morning was downgraded to an Advice Message around midday.
09.01.2022 Happy NAIDOC Week! FRV firefighters in Morwell were joined at the station this week by local Aboriginal community leaders from The Gathering Place and the Boorun Boys Dance Group. Firefighter Amanda Hill has helped to establish a relationship between the groups and Morwell fire station, which has seen FRV crews learn more about the land they live and work on. We have so much to learn from community and Elders about the land, the weather and caring for country, Amanda said.... Their wisdom and knowledge is invaluable to us in our work, and by learning more about traditional ways of using the land, we can make sure we are not only caring for the land but also important cultural sites and practices. Being part of the community here is so important to us as firefighters, and connecting with the people we work and live with.
