17.01.2022 These colourful fantastic dahlias are flowering profusely at the moment. In winter I will be digging these babies up to sell. Most tubers will be $8 each, so keep me in mind when you are planning for Summer/Autumn colour. Ruth at Firetail Dahlias, phone/text me on 0408674636 or email me at [email protected], plant list coming together right now and preorders will be taken. All posters are going up on the website this week.

17.01.2022 The dahlia plant is named after Swedish 18th-century botanist Anders Dahl, and is the official flower of the city of Seattle. The Dahlia was discovered in Centr...al America in the 16th century, and the first tubers arrived in Europe at the end of the 18th century, sent over to Madrid by the Spanish settlers in Mexico. The dahlia is a genus of tuberous plants that are members of the Asteraceae family, and are related to sunflowers, daisies, chrysanthemum and zinnia. They grow from small, brown biennial tubers, and love moist, moderate climates. October through to November is planting time for dahlias. According to the Dahlia Society of Victoria, Australia, it’s a good idea to re-dig your patch and incorporate a good fertiliser about two weeks from planting. Neutrog’s ACO certified organic Rapid Raiser or Seamungus is ideal for this. Plant your stakes in the ground first and label them as you plant. It’s very easy at this stage to mix up the tubers. Look for the eye or shoot on each tuber, and plant the tuber on its side (horizontally), with the eye about 50mm from the stake and about 10cm deep, with the eye slightly higher than the tail. Snails love new dahlia shoots, so make sure you protect the emerging plants with a snail deterrent. Once you see at least four sets of leaves, to get the best from your dahlias, regular fertilising with Sudden Impact for Roses and GOGO Juice is beneficial. You can also give them a foliar feed with liquid Sudden Impact for Roses every month. If you’re keen to grow some dahlias, here are some photos to inspire you. You might also be interested in joining your local dahlia society a list of which can be found here: http://www.dahliasaustralia.org.au/ About Sudden Impact for Roses - ideal for all flowering and fruiting plants (not just roses), Sudden Impact for Roses combines the best of both worlds. Its organic base provides a full range of plant nutrients in a slow release form, whilst the carefully selected water-soluble nutrients have been added to maximise the performance of each application. Users of Sudden Impact for Roses consistently report an increase in the number of flowers, an increase in the quality of individual blooms, continued general plant vigour and sturdy growth, and an improvement in the health of the plants, with increased resistance to fungal disease, resulting in a marked reduction in the need for preventative spraying by up to two thirds.

04.01.2022 Free, so worth a look, especially the tech section.

02.01.2022 I have been making some great posters about my Dahlias. I'm going to share where I have made them - try this out, https://www.canva.com/join/page-golden-gorgeous. Watch for my posters next.

01.01.2022 Welcome aboard, dahlia lovers! We've now reached the 80+ likers mark which is just fabulous. Thanks so much for your support. Here are some dahlias I just pick...ed from my garden - decorative and ball types. I'm looking forward to entering my dahlias at the upcoming 2020 Dahlia and Floral Art Show at the Hobart Town Hall on 13 March (1-6 pm) and 14 March 2020 (10 am-4.30 pm), run by the Hobart Horticultural Society. We'd love to see you and your friends there. Come up and chat to the growers and find out how you can get involved in dahlia growing and showing. Look at this photo taken last year to see what will be in store. See you there! Oh, and please share our page with your friends - the more, the merrier.

01.01.2022 The digging and dividing of Dahlias has started. 14 done, 400 to go, that means 26 days to play in the mud. Please pray for sun, it got quite cold yesterday, my fingers stopped working.
