25.01.2022 Maireana Smokey. Native blue Bush. If you like it grab it when you see it. I've had this one for four years but couldn't find it again until recently. Becoming a bit more mainstream which can only be a good thing for everyone. Photo honestly does it no justice. Look out for its cousin Maireana pearl bluebush. You wont regret it.

24.01.2022 Haven't been able to go out and check on these beauties for awhile now. Pretty happy with what i found! So is the ladybug! Every single one has sprouted. I call that a successful trial!

22.01.2022 Five days later and the emerging has begun! Whoop!

20.01.2022 Gompholobium scabrum. Beautiful native pea flowering shrub I'm growing from seed. (Second picture is the seed supplier I use and showcases the pea flower perfectly.) From the southwest area of Western Australia, I'm hoping it loves Southwest Victoria as much. Plant in free draining soil, it is also drought and frost tolerant. ... I'm pretty excited about this one. See more

20.01.2022 A year ago I had to remove a tree that had a serious lean so I made the stump into a birdbath stand. Well the tree has decided to grow back creating a lovely sanctuary for birds to visit. #naturecreatesthebestart #seewhatyourgardeniscreatingforyou #agonisflexuosa

19.01.2022 Just a few gladiolus bulbils to plant up to mature for next year's flowers. It was incredible how many were attached to each corm! Will keep me busy for awhile... #gladiolusbulbils

17.01.2022 Have you heard of the scratch test? That plant that lost all its leaves and you want to know if it can be saved? Or a deciduous tree that hasn't budded up yet? Give it a little scratch! First photo shows no green to be seen.. just brown (also blurry sorry) so that is a no. No supplies are going up that trunk. Depending on the plant you could try cutting it down and see if that gives it a chance to resprout from the bottom but more than likely its a goner. ... Second photo shows green! Yes! This plant has plenty of life left, so give it some tender care and it might reward you by springing back into action. The last photo shows a Golden Elm i used the scratch test on. It was a bare stick in the middle of the paddock half way through this spring. I potted it up and planted it, after it had recovered enough, and look at it now! Remember to only do a little scratch with your thumbnail, (or maybe a vegetable peeler or razor) and on the main trunk. Branches may be dead or dying and will give a false negative. So next time you are about to pull out a plant you know what to do first! What a waste of a Golden Elm that would have been, if i hadn't tried the scratch test!

16.01.2022 Romneya coulteri- californian tree poppy. Large herbaceous shrub. Waited what seemed ages for the flowers to open but they are definately worth it! Lovely scent and large flowers dance in the breeze on the ends of branches in summertime. 2 metres by 2 metres. Love to spread underground through the garden though, so build a barrier or give them some space! Grow in the worst of dry sandy soils. But to look their best mulch at the start of spring.

16.01.2022 These Gladiolis have outperformed my expectations. They have been amazing this first season. For something I wasn't that keen on at the start, but thought lets give them a try, they have totally won me over. #allthecoloursoftherainbow #statementflowers

14.01.2022 Anyone else doing plenty of 'gardening yoga?' Firework Flowers has been having a break over the last couple of months. Lots of planning for the growing season going on... Enjoy the summer everyone! Stay hydrated out there.

13.01.2022 As promised full flower shot of Scabiosa atropurpurea 'Black Knight'. Not fully out but i couldnt wait to share how gorgeous this is!

13.01.2022 The very beginning of all the seed planting... You'll have to wait to see what treasures emerge!

13.01.2022 Maireana oppositifolia and Hypocalymma angustifolium Making a stunning duo in my Australian native cottage style garden this spring. Really made my day spying these two. I love a natural mesh of plant growth when they are both as happy as this.

11.01.2022 I've found myself suddenly and extremely time poor. And my indoor plants have been suffering as a result. Unlike their outdoor mates who seem to have grown out of control overnight! So I thought I'd give the indoor plant hydro craze a try. So many of the indoor plant fanatics I talk to swear by it. And it was heaps of fun and didn't take that long to do! (Between all the other jobs that seem never-ending.) This Anthurium had been on a steady decline but already looks much ...happier! I was only going to do one or two plants but ended up with twelve in water. Which only leaves me with about 70 other indoor plants to worry about watering now. #paintbrushstake #giveitago See more

09.01.2022 Remember those trays of seeds a few months back? Well this Scabiosa atropurpurea 'black knight' is from one of those trays. Just budding up now. Full flower shot to follow. Considering the grasshoppers, sudden heat waves and minimal watering, I would put this one in the hardy plant category for sure! Loving life.

08.01.2022 Mesembryanthemum crystallinum- Salty ice plant. Edible succulent. As name suggests its salty in flavour. A great one for all those people who love their salt! Or just want an interesting plant in their garden. It's been great, whilst we are in the trailling stage, seeing different plant species grow side by side from seed. It has been a wonderful learning experience as well. I'm thinking these guys will definately make the final list!

08.01.2022 The great thing about growing different native plants is that you can pick a quick beautiful little posy like this, for special people, who offer to cook you dinner after a long day at work! And frankly a less than ordinary week. How lovely does Dodonaea boroniifolia look with Dianella blaze! Colour combo (photo blurry as I was in a rush to get to that dinner!)

05.01.2022 I remember seeing one of the first stories done on these two men years ago and thinking how amazing they were. I could never remember where i saw the story. It was nice to stumble across this the other night. It is worth a watch. Inspiring and an amazing story of lifelong dedication to repairing the damage that has been done to our land and waterways.

03.01.2022 Jane from Gardening Australia with some good advice for all indoor gardeners.

03.01.2022 Eeeek! Scabiosa atropurpurea 'Black Knight'. Just keeps getting better and better!

01.01.2022 Thank goodness for indoor plants to keep us growing on these cold and dreary days. Whats your favourite indoor plant?
