19.01.2022 Do not enter banana farms. In fact, don’t enter any farm without permission. Panama TR4 could be in the dirt on your shoes, or the tyres on your car. Show yo...ur support by sharing this message. Discover more at www.PanamaTR4protect.com.au #PanamaTR4protect A special thanks to banana growers Shayne and Blaise Cini from @EdariBananas, @Gavin Eilers from @www.tropicanabanana.com.au, @Steve Wells from Nourish Banana Co, @Matt Abbott from Rabbit Organics and @Dean Sinton from Sinton’s Bananas.

18.01.2022 What the drivers said Day 3... Tony Quinn (driver 2018 Nissan GT-R R35, winner Outright, It’s Live in Queensland GT Outright): Those stages today really suited ...the Nissan. We could not have done much better and really it was the old story of an old head. We didn’t do anything stupid but we didn’t back off either. Peter Gluskie (driver 1985 BMW 325i, winner Shannons Classic Handicap): We were really happy. It’s not easy to lead from start to finish. This is a really great event and what we went through to gain an exemption from Victoria and go into quarantine was not easy but this has made it all worthwhile. Wayne Udy (driver 2019 Lotus Exige 410 Sport, winner Reef Hotel & Casino GT Sports Trophy, 2nd Outright): This is a bit surreal really. We had an aim of getting on the outright podium but to finish second is incredible. It’s not how you want to get there with people dropping out but it was still a matter of going hard. We kept pushing the limit the whole way. Dan Bowden (driver 1965 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350, winner Shannons Classic GT): Winning was totally unexpected but to finish first, first you’ve got to finish. For us, it was just a matter of getting to Cairns and having some fun. This is my first TARGA event for 15 years and I can’t wait to come back. The car was brilliant and I’m a big fan of Fastback Mustangs. Steve Van der Brug (driver 2009 Subaru WRX STi, winner Cairns Regional Council GT Production): We never expected to be on the podium. We are still learning and this is very exciting to have achieved a win. Andrew Horn (driver 1998 Mitsubishi Evo V, winner Dutton Garage Early Modern 4): My co-driver Sally Coning called the notes extremely well today and it wasn’t easy. We kept pushing along and we can’t believe the result. The support from the local community really has been amazing and the atmosphere was really buzzing all weekend. Tim Hall (driver 1980 Holden Commodore, winner Shannons Thoroughbred Trophy): We only got the car prepared eight weeks before the event and didn’t get the entry in until late. We are stoked to have won the class.

15.01.2022 HOW’S THE SERENITY: Mary and Geoffrey Biles and Carleene and Ray Rothery drove their caravans from Rockhampton to Cairns, staying at the Caravilla Caravan Park. Picture: BRENDAN RADKE Far North second only to outback in capturing national drive market THE Far North’s reputation as a tourism powerhouse has been solidified after being ranked as the second-fastest growing destination for road trips and one of seven Queensland spots to make the top 10 across the nation.... A Road Trip Index generated by data from travellers using TripTech apps highlights the steady week-on-week increase of holiday traffic to various parts of the state, with the outback recording the strongest average growth in the past five weeks at 28.5 per cent, while the Tropical North ranked second at 12.25 per cent. Among those making the trek to the region is Rockhampton couple Geoffrey and Mary Biles, who used to live in Cairns in the ’80s. We haven’t been here for a good 10 years, so it’s a good chance to see how things have changed, Mr Biles said. We took our time coming up and saw that there were a lot of other vans travelling up this way. I guess people are still going to travel, so road-tripping is the only way. There’s plenty to see here and across the state you can just keep travelling around and it’d keep you occupied for a long time. Mr Biles also said people should feel safe to travel with facilities being very well maintained. Also making the journey from the southern parts of the state are nine members of the Roustabout RV Club. The members, spread among five vans, decided to take a road trip starting in early July and are now in Mossman on their way to Cooktown. Club president Brian Gill said it was a journey they decided on when they were selfisolating in Brisbane after reentering Queensland from South Australia. I’m just pleased to see Queenslanders are travelling in Queensland again, Mr Gill said. Cooktown was an attraction to us and we loved our time in Cairns and Townsville. This area of our state is beautiful. The group, consisting of grey nomads, usually takes a long intrastate or interstate trip once a year. Tourism Tropical North Queensland chief executive Mark Olsen said the region was a popular drive destination with iconic weekend and longer drives to suit all interests. From the spectacular Great Barrier Reef Drive between two World Heritage areas to the bucket-list journey through Cape York to the northernmost tip of Australia, the diversity of experiences and landscapes is extraordinary, he said. TTNQ has been running a campaign across Queensland and in NSW featuring inspirational content leading potential visitors to drivenorthqueensland.com.au. Last month we extended the campaign to encourage travel to Cape York and Cooktown as travel was permitted in those areas.
