25.01.2022 Last week completed Jacob's time with us - through his internship and provisional psychogy to fully-fledged! We're grateful for his years committed to the First Floor Program and the wellbeing of individuals (particularly youth) and families impacted by AOD/MH issues. We wish him every success for the future. Now we have the task of finding someone to continue to grow the role of Youth and Family Support Worker within our Illawarra team. https://salvationarmy.wd3.myworkdayjobs.com//Youth-and-Fam

19.01.2022 Saturday would normally have been the night that the Salvos head to North Gong and hand out water and chat with those at the Pub Crawl. This year we couldn't do that but we still need to raise much needed funds for The Salvation Army's First Floor Program. If you would like to donate please click on the link below to donate. We thought today you might like to hear how The Salvation Army's First Floor Program commenced in the Illawarra.... While The Salvation Army’s Jayne Wilson was on a hospital bed undergoing chemotherapy for her cancer, she saved someone’s life. It’s an example of how Jayne, who died of cancer in Wollongong Hospital on Christmas afternoon 2013, would happily give her time to help others, whether it be through her work with The Salvation Army in Wollongong, as the police chaplain for Lake Illawarra or as a celebrant. One day in August 2012, when she was about to start a session of chemotherapy, she received a call on her mobile phone from a woman on Bulli Tops who was contemplating taking her own life. While having treatment to try and save her own life, Jayne stayed on the phone. She encouraged the woman back her car away from the edge of the cliff and then arranged for the woman to contact The First Floor Program who could help her. With a hospitality background, Jayne first joined The Salvation Army shortly after it moved into the old Cleo’s Nightclub in Burelli Street, Wollongong. There was a working bistro and kitchen there and Jayne came on board to run hospitality training for long-term unemployed people. She noticed that many participants had addiction issues and soon started a counselling service to help them but she didn’t stop there. Jayne also noticed that though there was a lot of assistance for people with addiction issues, there was little for their families. What was initiated was quite new at the time. Jayne commenced support programs for the partners and parents of people with drug and alcohol and/or mental health issues, for their children and for grandparents who are primary carers of their grandchildren. Known as the First Floor Program, this holistic model of care has since been replicated by The Salvation Army in Sydney, Canberra and Canada. https://community.salvationarmy.org.au/t/santa-fest
19.01.2022 First Floor Program is relocating! We plan to be fully operational at The Foundery, 132 Wentworth Street, Port Kembla, from April 19. Sadly there's not room for our craft group's mosaic table, which was made for the 2019 Jayne Wilson memorial exhibition, themed "Laughter", so we're offering it free for removal from our Wollongong office. Send us a message or call 4229 1079 if you're interested.
19.01.2022 One of the family support programs we run (in fact we are currently running two of them via Zoom with participants from all over the place!) is Family Connections. Theyre currently holding a Walk for Family Connections campaign to help raise awareness about the program and the experiences of families living with a loved one with Borderline Personality Disorder. Can you Walk For Family Connections this week? "NEABPD Australia brings the Family Connections Program to families ...of loved ones suffering BPD. We normally deliver these programs face to face, however, in the current situation, we have converted these programs to our teleconnections program. This has allowed us to continue to support our families during this unprecedented time of isolation. We believe that we are all interconnected and we can still support you even though our method of delivery has changed. We would like to roll out more Family Connections programs to those who need it most, especially during these very difficult times. Family Connections is a free program to families and is run by unpaid volunteers that give their time to deliver these very important life skills which can often change peoples lives. NEABPD does not receive any government funding and rely heavily on the generosity of the families who have benefited our program. To date, we have over 2000 people waiting to be accepted into a Family Connections Program. We had intended to hold a Walk for Family Connections this year, however, due to the current restrictions, we have joined together with our international counterparts to bring you our first ever Web Walk. Family Connections is in 25 countries across the world, and we would like you to join our international affiliates to walk for those families with loved ones suffering BPD. Please see attached more information. You are invited to watch our global live stream from Toronto on Monday 25th May, at 6am AEST (we will repeat this stream at 6pm AEST as well for those who cant make the earlier time). We have a target to raise $10,000 for Family Connections so that we may roll out 10 more programs in the coming months to support more families. Please join us by walking, and uploading a photo or video to the hashtags list below."

16.01.2022 It was such a privilege to train 11 Salvation Army staff and officers from Brisbane, Gold Coast and South East Queensland, including staff from both Moonyah and Fairhaven rehabilitation centres, in the FFPs See Change program yesterday. The Zoom screen sure was crowded with 11 participants! But just take a look at this - this is the whirlpool we created while discussing familys experiences of having a loved one with drug and alcohol and/or mental health issues.... Now, Im not sure what you see in this image, but to us it says that these 11 participants deeply understand the impact of these issues on families and now they are equipped with See Change to help assist! Can. Not. Wait. To see our little program grow in Queensland and to hear stories of more and more families receiving support and beginning their empowerment journey!
15.01.2022 April Positivity Challenge Day #28 One of evidence based activities from our Boosted program is the benefits of expressive writing, that is, writing not just about what happened but how it felt. Doing this type of writing has been shown to enhance your well-being. ... So, i guess theres no time like the present - try and find some time to sit down for 15-30 minutes, check in with yourself and write from the inside. Theres no need to share this with anyone (you can tear it up right away if you like) whats important is the process of giving words to your inner space.
15.01.2022 You can support our local digital doorknock through the link on our facebook page: First Floor Program Salvation Army

This meant we were able to train ten facilitators from the Central Coast to rural Victoria (and almost everywhere in between!) in helping families on their empowerment journery.... Can. Not. Wait. to see these facilitators grow the See Change program in their communities!

11.01.2022 April Positivity Challenge Day #27 The current situation is forcing many of us to rely on technology that we werent initially very experienced with or comfortable using. One of the benefits of this is that we are becoming more equipped and have become adept at utilising these new technologies. At the FFP this has meant being able to connect some of our support groups from up and down the coast together via online meetings.... But the trick with technology is to make it work for you and to find a balance in your relationship with it. So, todays prompt is to check in with your relationship with technology. How has it opened the world up for you? How well are you maintaining balance? If you would like to connect via our online support groups the pinned post at the top of the page has all the details and links!
11.01.2022 April Positivity Challenge Day #29 Continuing on from yesterdays expressive writing activity, today were going to write to a pen friend! Your pen friend? Corona virus.... Dear Corona, you are scary, you make me frustrated, how can you do this to people? You get the idea. Why are we doing this? Because sharing our thoughts, feelings and fears helps us to process them, helps us to shift them and create an inner distance between us and them. Again, you dont have to share this, the benefit is by doing. And maybe by doing so, we can also start to see the positives and cultivate gratitude. Dear Corona, i dont like you, but because of you ive finally started reading/quilting/drawing/walking/gardening again. Hopefully youre getting to do all of those!
11.01.2022 It's been a bit of a chaotic year hasn't it? Just a reminder that we are still calling for entries in next year's exhibition! Details in the poster.

02.01.2022 April Positivity Challenge Day #25 Todays tip is to try and find a way to connect to the natural world, even if its through a window! Nature simply wants to be and it is forever inclined towards growth. Take our courtyard garden tomatoes - seemingly against the odds in the centre of the city, only being cared for once a week they are happily producing fruit unobserved and into Autumn.... Growth in isolation, what a beautiful goal!
01.01.2022 Last chance to book in for this - only a few spots left! Call 42291079 to reserve your place
