15.01.2022 GREEN LIGHT FOR NEW MINE: One of WA's biggest gold miners has approved the development of a new $29.4 million underground mine in the northern Goldfields. Regi...s Resources' announcement to the stock exchange today comes on the eve of the Diggers and Dealers Mining Forum, with up to 2300 delegates expected to attend the annual talkfest in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The miner's executive chairman Mark Clark is due to feature as one of the presenters on Monday afternoon. Regis says work will begin on the underground mine early next year. The project will see mining continue below the existing Rosemont open pit mine, near Laverton. The mine is forecast to produce 570,000 ounces of gold over the next five years, with 38 per cent of the gold mined from underground.

04.01.2022 KALGOORLIE CBD PLAN The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has released a draft plan for the biggest transformation of the city centre in decades. The draft has b...een formed through feedback from about 14,000 locals, visitors and business owners. City Living General Manager Holly Phillips said it was about injecting new life into the CBD. Some of the early thinking is around street wide enhancements, how the endowment block might be changed, laneway and sensory lighting, she said. There is potential for food piazzas, playgrounds for young people and significant areas for youth activity to unfold. Most of the fundamental changes will be in the mindset of retailers and the people that come back to the city centre. Under the plan, Cassidy Street would become more pedestrian friendly, by blocking vehicle access from Hannan Street. Council is also considering lowering rent as part of a strategy to encourage businesses. The project would cost more than $30 million and construction is expected to start at the end of next year. Residents have three weeks to provide feedback on the draft plan. The project will be split into seven key zones: St Barbaras Square and Laneway: the city centres new piazza and celebration space Hannan Street: to be transformed through investment in the endowment block, street wide amenity and landscape upgrades Cassidy Common and Link: A new people first zone celebrating Cassidys idyllic trees and connecting St Barbaras Square to Kingsbury Hub Kingsbury Hub: Bringing together active outdoor recreation and a programmed youth-centre and tech zone Town Hall: After more than 100 years, the Town Hall will be returned to the people as Kal City Centres community hub Kalgoorlie City Markets: Markets Arcade will become a local and visitor drawcard featuring food and beverage, small bar and giftwares Arts and Cultural Quarter: A transformed Kalgoorlie Arts Centre will anchor the city centres arts and cultural scene
