24.01.2022 CHEAPER housing could be on the cards for the Gold Coast under a council plan to slash the size of properties across the city. The council is preparing to update its City Plan nearly two years after its introduction, with changes in policy to allow for higher density developer in some areas while blocking it in other locations.

22.01.2022 THE State Government is still confident the Commonwealth Games will generate about 30,000 jobs. A Griffith University report commissioned by the Government shows next April’s Games will provide 16,000 direct jobs and deliver $4.6 billion in benefits to the Gold Coast. The State Opposition was unable to get the study from Griffith and suspects the 16,000 full-time jobs would be half of the number anticipated by earlier forecasts.

17.01.2022 It might not be the castle that Jimi Hendrix once sung about, but the Gold Coast is the temporary home of a hostel made of sand. World champion sand sculptor Dennis Massoud built the sand structure on the Gold Coast beach using about 24 tonnes of sand as a joint initiative for accommodation website Hostelworld and Gold Coast Tourism. The hostel, which is open to the public for three days from September 20 to 22, also hosted a handful of guests who got to experience what it was like to sleep on the famous beach with many more mod cons than just a beach towel and a hangover.

Releasing the first impressions of the gallery yesterday, city leaders revealed the six-storey feature would cost $60.5 million and cover 6000-6500 square metres.

05.01.2022 FIRST home buyers have made a bold return to the property market after months on the sidelines, with Queensland experiencing the biggest increase. The latest report from the Real Estate Institute of Australia and Adelaide Bank reveals the number of loans to first time buyers increased by 14 per cent during the June quarter, with increases in all states and territories except Tasmania. That’s despite government grants for first time buyers in some states not coming into effect until July 1.
