24.01.2022 I have often heard people say they do not have any friends, have you forgotten the basics, do you "leave it to others" here are a few tips, they maybe basic, but perhaps forgetting the basics is what put us where we are today #firststepcounselling

21.01.2022 Amy Morin, makes some great points in this article, I would like to add to scheduling a time to worry. I think that is a great idea, however we all know that sometimes we just cannot quiet our heads. If you simply cannot let it go, then give yourself 10 mins, that is all I allow myself at the time, I usually find that before the 10 mins are up, my thoughts have moved I and so can I. Another point, Amy mentions writing down you worries, while you are writing, come up with solutions and write them down as well, let you creative processes go wild and it doesn't matter how far fetched your 'solutions' are, write them anyway. When and if you come back to them you will be in a better frame of mind to reject those that just will not work. #firststepcounselling.com.au

18.01.2022 Ways to manage stress (National Institute of Mental Health) - Be observant. Recognize the signs of your body’s response to stress, such as difficulty sleeping, increased alcohol and other substance use, being easily angered, feeling depressed, and having low energy. -Talk to your health care provider or a health professional. Don’t wait for your health care provider to ask about your stress. Start the conversation and get proper health care for existing or new health problems.... Effective treatments can help if your stress is affecting your relationships or ability to work. - Get regular exercise. Just 30 minutes per day of walking can help boost your mood and improve your health. -Try a relaxing activity. Explore relaxation or wellness programs, which may incorporate meditation, muscle relaxation, or breathing exercises. Schedule regular times for these and other healthy and relaxing activities. - Set goals and priorities. Decide what must get done now and what can wait. Learn to say no to new tasks if you start to feel like you’re taking on too much. Try to be mindful of what you have accomplished at the end of the day, not what you have been unable to do - Stay connected. You are not alone. Keep in touch with people who can provide emotional support and practical help. To reduce stress, ask for help from friends, family, and community or religious organizations. I am not generally a list person, but I have found that making a list before I sleep each night and checking it off the next day gives me a sense of accomplishment, even if I don't get everything on my list completed. Start with making your bed, it is the first thing you have checked off each day and sets you up for the rest of the day. Start how you mean to continue See more

13.01.2022 Dr Boyes makes some great points in this article, they are relatable and easy to action. Be human, take time to encourage others, we are meant to interact with each other, as we add some of these strategies into our lives, the flow on effect will encourage not only you but those around you, and this is the time when we need to work together
