23.01.2022 Although children can't communicate in the same way as adults, they are very perceptive and emotionally aware. How you interact with your children can impact on their development. Here are some key ways that you can support your child's healthy development:
22.01.2022 We love these 'Being dad, being proud' information sheets by the NSW Department of Community Services. There's loads of great activities and parenting tips for the First 1000 Days and beyond!
22.01.2022 Children who speak more than one language not only have increased cognitive function linked to critical thinking and problem solving, they often develop a strong sense of their cultural identity which can improve their mental health and establish a strong sense of self worth. There are so many great resources to teach your child languages, like ABC Kids Community's Little Yarns - a podcast series for children that explores the diverse languages, stories and Countries of Indigenous Australia.

19.01.2022 Children don’t care about superficial differences like nationality, faith or race. But once they go to school they begin to respond to such differences in terms... of ‘us’ and ‘them’. The reality is that today we are all part of one great human family and we need to have a keener sense of the oneness of humanity. We are all the same in being human. We need to maintain that natural openness we observe in young children. See more
17.01.2022 Many of our dreams may of been put on hold in 2020. But keep dreaming - 2021 is just around the corner!
15.01.2022 A varied diet including plenty of fruits and veggies is important to give your child energy and to help reduce the risk of many diseases. By helping your child to enjoy vegetables and develop healthy habits you're setting them up for a healthy life! I used to include brussel sprouts in amongst the veges. I thought they loved them because the plate was always empty! It was much later on they told me they had been feeding them to the dog under the table! What's your favourite/least favourite vegetable?
13.01.2022 Parents are among the most important people in the lives of young children. From the moment your child is conceived, you become their cultural teacher. In utero, there are many cultural practices that you can do with your growing child - singing in language, eating bush tucker and participating in ceremony. As a parent you'll have the opportunity to develop your child's social skills, establish their values and morals, emotional awareness, and their early literacy and numeracy skills. This is the journey of growing our future Elders.
12.01.2022 'So, in this time of great uncertainty, it is my hope that we can help families make the most of their new reality [COVID-19] by sharing the science of paternal engagement, empowering more fathers to embrace their capacity to impact their children’s cognitive and socio-emotional development, and to share in the work of building healthy young brains.'
12.01.2022 As a parent or a parent to be it's very important to look after yourself so you can stay strong for your boorai. This fact sheet by The Royal Women's Hospital shares some ideas and gets you thinking about how to prepare for the stresses of parenting to plan for the healthy growth and development of you and your baby!
11.01.2022 As a parent the words "I'm bored" might start to sound like a broken record. But boredom is actually good for children! When they have to find something to do they are forced to let their thoughts and imaginations roam, explore ideas and think creatively. I used to draw when I was bored. What did you do?
11.01.2022 There's no such thing as the perfect parent. Everybody is learning as they go and every day is a new learning experience! And always remember even the experts don't always have it sorted - theguardian.com/lifeandst//04/how-parenting-experts-parent.
10.01.2022 All Modern Matriarchs breast feed if they are able. It is the way of our ancestors and necessary for our future. Our baby’s early life experience of being culturally safe and part of our Charter.
03.01.2022 A few DID YOU KNOWS about babies' brain development from Canadian organisation Best Start. Like did you know that a safe environment will help your baby's brain development? Or did you know that routines are important to help young children develop a healthy brain?
02.01.2022 Children want to make their fathers proud, and an involved father promotes inner growth and strength. There are so many ways to be a dad, but the most important thing you can give to your child is love. Need some inspiration? We love Parenting SA's Being Dad guide: parenting.sa.gov.au/pegs/a-peg-being-a-dad.pdf
01.01.2022 It's something I'm often asked - how to avoid what sounds an awful lot like the Spanish Inquisition when the less than communicative child gets home after school. Aren't these awesome ways to start a conversation outside of the predictable, "How was your day?"
