14.01.2022 2020 Cardiac Challenge - Team Wheelie Good! Every year, hundreds of cyclists from around Australia & overseas are drawn to the city of Cairns in tropical FNQ to saddle up for the Cardiac Challenge. This year First Aid Academy - RTO 40920 is very proud to be supporting team "WHEELIE GOOD" - There is a photo below of the incredible Team we are supporting & a link that will direct you to their donation page!... The fundraising bike ride from Cairns to Cooktown gains momentum. This event was launched in 2007 by the FNQ Hospital Foundation and has raised more than $3.5 million in that time. The three-day, 333km ride attracts people from all walks of life. What motivates them to pedal 333km, up mountains and across plains? The man who came up with the idea for the Cardiac Challenge, Pete McNally, was born with congenital heart problems and still requires ongoing cardiac care. But he hasn’t let that slow him down. A cycling enthusiast, he persuaded the FNQ Hospital Foundation that a fundraising bike ride would be a great way to raise money to improve cardiac care services in FNQ, as well as encourage more people to get into cycling. As the years have rolled by, the fundraising efforts of the Cardiac Challenge is probably best reflected by the number of cardiologists and nurses from the Cardiac Care Unit at Cairns Hospital who take part in the event, along with former cardiac patients and others who have lost loved ones to heart disease. At a personal level, many Cardiac Challenge participants describe the event as a life-changing experience: inspiring them to achieve new levels of fitness, step outside their comfort zone and take on fresh challenges, while also enjoying the camaraderie and support of the other riders. https://fundraising.cardiacchallenge.com.au///WheelieGood

13.01.2022 'THERE'S MORE TO SAY AFTER R U OK?' R U OK? Day is Thursday 10 September 2020. It’s our national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? if someone in your world is struggling with life’s ups and downs. 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. In the lead-up to R U OK? Day ...we’ll help Australians know what to say when someone says they’re not OK and guide them through how they can continue a conversation that could change a life. You don’t have to be an expert to keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before they’re in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life. https://www.ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day

06.01.2022 The Rescue Boat Sea Scoopa is a vital piece of rescue equipment for all rescue boats. The device scoops and lifts a man overboard onto rescue vessels. Portable, with its own carry bag, the Sea Scoopa is equally effective when used on rigid inflatable boats or powerboats with a higher free board. Simple to use, the Sea Scoopa only needs two people to perform an entire man overboard rescue. When reading a man overboard, rescue organisations can experience problems with their... duty of care to the victim and their OH&S obligations to the rescuers. Sea Scoopa addresses these issues. Unlike most other man overboard (MOB) rescue devices, the Sea Scoopa provides a mechanical advantage during the rescue process thus improving lifting techniques and reducing the incidence of back injuries. Sea Scoopa is designed for the horizontal retrieval of a MOB. This is important to avoid the circulatory collapse that can occur if victims are lifted out of the water vertically. The rescue boat Sea Scoopa provides advantages over cradle, lifting net or rescue frame styled MOB rescue devices.
