20.01.2022 Today is World Restart a Heart Day. Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the #1 Killer in Australia and it's estimated that over 25,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital every year, of which only 10% survive. Early application of effective CPR and an AED is of absolute importance. Raising awareness and increasing accessibility of Public Access Defibrillators, is critical. Does your workplace have a defibrillator, with staff trained in its use?

13.01.2022 Retired yellow Wiggle, Greg Page speaks about the importance of learning CPR and thanks the incredible people that helped him when he needed it the most.

12.01.2022 Myth #1: CPR on a baby should be completed in your arms or on your lap. Compressions should be completed on a firm surface. By doing compressions on your lap or in your arms, you will not be able to achieve the desired depth of compressions. Myth #2: Elevate the limb to stop bleeding. Arteries pump blood away from the heart. Elevating an arterial bleed will not work as the heart consistently pumps blood to the brain, even when we are standing. There is some evidence which sug...gests that this could even cause further injury. Myth #3: Tourniquets should not be used. Tourniquets are a life saving device used to stop life threatening bleeding from a limb. With proper training, these devices can be very effective and safe. Myth #4: Use mayonnaise or butter to cool a burn. Mayonnaise and butter are not proven treatment methods. The best treatment for a burn is to apply cool running water to the affected area for approximately 20 minutes. Once this has been completed, apply cling wrap to the burn, provided the burn was not caused by a chemical. Myth #5: Pee on a jellyfish sting. Urinating on a jellyfish sting is not a proven method. For a bluebottle sting, use hot water. For jellyfish or stingers in North Queensland, treat with vinegar.
