21.01.2022 It's Free FIRST AID TIP FRIDAY - and this week we're up to G GRAZE ... a minor wound ... Minor wounds are small less than 2.5cm, shallow with only superficial damage to the skin and where bleeding is minimal and stops quickly.... Minor wounds do not automatically need medical attention and providing good first aid may be all that is needed. If there is any doubt about the severity of the wound seek medical aid. Vital first aid steps: Assess extent and severity of the wound Clean the wound with saline solution Cover with a sterile dressing Check regularly for redness swelling or weeping or other signs of infection If necessary seek medical aid. #firstaidtips #minorwound #firstaidtrainingportdouglas

19.01.2022 Its First Aid TIP FRIDAY!!! Please read, like and share and let's get educated in #FIRSTAID! Last week our tip was Basic life support- which consists of several... steps. One of these steps is CPR- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CPR is the process of providing chest compressions combined with rescue breathing to preserve brain function by temporarily maintaining circulation of blood and oxygen until the ambulance or medical aid arrives. If the casualty is unresponsive and not breathing normally start CPR immediately. This will dramatically increase the chance of survival for a casualty who needs resuscitation. The first few minutes are crucial. Vital steps in CPR- give 30 compressions at a rate of almost 2 per second, give 2 rescue breaths, continue to give regular cycles of 30 chest compressions then 2 rescue breaths at a rate of 5 cycles every 2 minutes. As always our first aid and CPR courses will train you in the skills required to perform CPR. Remember if a friend or family member needs urgent medical help call 000. #firstaidtraining #firstaidportdouglas #firstaidmossman

13.01.2022 It's FRIDAY FIRST AID TIP TIME!!! Last week our tip was CPR, this week we will look at the very first step in the BLS (basic life support)- Danger Checking for danger is the first thing any first aider should do before assisting an injured casualty. Dangers can be any hazard or potential source of harm for you, the casualty or bystanders.... Some dangers you may find at a scene include: (there are many more) Traffic hazards Fire risks, Electrical hazards Infection risks, Unstable structures, Fast flowing water. Post below any other Dangers you can think of. If you observe dangers- contain or remove the danger if it is safe to do so, If you cannot move the danger carefully move the casualty to a safer area if it is safe to do so. If you cannot safely move the dangers or the casualty- remain a safe distance away, call 000 and warn approaching people or vehicles of the dangers. Remember if a friend or family member needs urgent medical help call 000. #firstaid #firstresponse #savinglives #portdouglastraining First aid #trainingmossman The Newsport Daily Port Douglas and Mossman Gazette
