25.01.2022 Myth - weight training will make you bulky Ladies, this isn’t true. We're here to crush that argument once and for all. Being a woman who lifts heavy weights won't make you bulky, manly, or look like a she-Hulk. In fact, it'll do just the opposite: It'll tighten and tone all over your body, burn fat, and shape your curves exactly how you want them without spending hours on the treadmill. Also bonus! Lifting weights can increase your lean muscle mass, which increases the number of overall calories you burn during the day. So by adding more lean muscle, you'll be burning more calories outside the gym, even when you're sitting on the couch or typing away at work

23.01.2022 MEMBERS OF THE WEEK Meet Jen, Lucia and Claudia. Best little trio of family members that we are so blessed to have at First Base. Jen is one strong mumma. In a class with her daughters, Jen pushes through at the same pace and uses many of the same weights. Did someone say super mum! Jen has a heart of gold and is so determined! AND she makes a damn good Christmas cake we love ya Jen! ... Lucia is a little silent pocket rocket. She may be small but she is strong and FAST! I love seeing your sweet smiling face walk through the door. On our far right, we have Claudia. Don’t challenge her to a race on the assault bike.... because she will win! Challenges/races/team competitions are fun when you are there because your little splash on determination and competitiveness is fun to see! Thank you to these three strong ladies for being part of our First Base team! You truly are the best!

Training these ladies has been an absolute pleasure for so many years. 23.01.2022 Reposting and leaving this here. It’s important to always plan! Failing to plan is planning to fail. Here are my tips on saving money on your grocery bill, and how I make a little bit go a long way in terms of both food and money. Whilst it can be boring, I choose to eat similar things each breakfast and lunch to keep it simple. Less thought means I spend less, less time is needed and there is less room for slipping up! Give it a go! Especially our challenge ladies!

19.01.2022 Tips and tricks to avoid being THAT person... (late canceller) We understand that things happen and sometimes a class you initially booked into no longer suits your schedule once the day comes around. BUT unfortunately if you don’t remove yourself from a class or don’t with plenty of notice, or simply don’t show up, that means someone else misses out. Use these tips and tricks to keep yourself accountable.... 1. Set your alarm and charge your phone away from your bed so you have to get up to turn it off (next to the coffee machine perhaps?) 2. Book in with a buddy who you can’t let down. 3. Put your gear out the night before or pack your gear in a bag for after work. 4. Set yourself a challenge to make a set number of sessions per week and treat yourself to something when you make it. 5. Prepare your breakfast the night before. 6. Get up and make yourself a coffee. 7. Go to sleep earlier. 8. Think of those on the waitlist don’t let them down! 9. Leave the curtains open! 10. Find joy and enthusiasm in what the day could bring- appreciate waking up to exercise your body! See you next week

13.01.2022 If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it not everything is in our control, but the way we respond and act is... Here are 25 things you CAN control that have the ability to make your life a whole lot better 1. Who you choose to hang around. You become the average of the top 5 people you hang around. Are you inspired by those 5 people?... 2. What you eat. If you choose to fuel yourself with wholesome healthy foods you will feel energised, healthy and motivated. If you over eat and consume overly processed, sugar & salt laden foods regularly you will gain unwanted weight, feel fatigued, get sick easily and feel flat. 3. Sleep. When you go to bed, your sleep hygiene and creating your bed time haven is all up to you. 4. Setting boundaries. Knowing when to say ‘no’. This could be as trivial as not feeling like going out to socialise or it could be saying ‘no’ to the way you are being treated by somebody. 5. How neat & tidy your living space is. Without even realising it, order and tidiness has a big impact on your headspace. Home/car/work space/bag/draws/cupboard clutter can increase mental clutter. 6. How nice you are. It is one of the easiest ways to make somebody else’s day and to build meaningful relationships and interactions. 7. Setting and following goals. These are entirely up to you. 8. What you do in your spare time. Do you waste hours binging tv series, scrolling on your phone, spending time with those who do not deserve your time? We’re all guilty of it sometimes. But you have the ability to spend your time doing meaningful and fulfilling things like reading, listening to podcasts, creating new friendships, educating yourself, spending time with family etc. 9. How much physical activity you do. Will you race home from work to sit on the couch or to get outdoors and go for a walk? Will you sleep an extra hour or go to the gym? 10. Self talk. Talk to yourself the way you would talk to someone you love. Say things like ‘I am proud of you for trying’, ‘you look beautiful today’, ‘look how strong you are’, ‘don’t settle for anything short of amazing’... See more

10.01.2022 PROTEIN POWDERS Often we get asked about protein powders and pre-workout shakes. Whilst these have their place in the fitness industry and certainly do have their benefits, it is not something we are big believers in. Why? Because we believe 99% of the time, the nutrients you need should come from whole foods. Protein powders most certainly have their space in my cupboard for two reasons.... convenience and taste!... But when I am eating a diet full of vegetables, fruit, whole grains, nuts and high quality meats, often protein powder is not necessary. When I do opt for a scoop of protein in my oats or smoothie, the key things I look for are: WHEY protein. Whey protein is a high-quality protein that’s fast-digesting and rich in BCAAs. This means it is perfect for a post workout smoothie or oats! Naturally sweetened! Many proteins are packed with artificial sweeteners. Opt for naturally sweetened or plain protein powders and then add your own sweetness with dates, fruit or honey Supplements are great for some who have been advised by a health professional that they need them! But most of us don’t NEED it! A whole food diet is key! Always remember that

07.01.2022 MYTH: Eating late at night will make you fat Let’s set the record straight it makes no difference whether you eat your calories at night or during the day. It’s the total number of calories you consume throughout the day (think a 24 hour period) that will make or break your diet. ... Whether you’re a shift worker eating breakfast at 10pm, a mumma so busy & tired you have to choose between washing your hair or eating, a boss babe who is under the pump all day & sometimes doesn’t eat lunch until 3pm, or any other situation, you shouldn’t let yourself think that there’s no hope of being healthy & hitting your calorie goal. The way you consume your calories & the time of day that you consume them, is a personal preference and influenced by your lifestyle. I personally prefer, and only have time for, 3-4 meals a day, so I make this work for me. I have breakfast at about 9.30am, lunch at 1.30/2pm, an afternoon snack occasionally, and then dinner at 6.30pm. Regardless of whether I had 6-7 meals or 2-3 I still hit my calorie goal. Of course it can get a little more complicated when our hormones spike havoc at certain times of the day that can increase our cravings. Cravings can lead us to over eat & eat the wrong things. This is where preparation and planning is key Plan ahead to succeed in your eating habits & remember that your daily eating plan does not need to be the same as anyone else’s. Work out what works for you & roll with it
