14.01.2022 Oh dear. Im shaking my head. Here I sit at the end of another all consuming month of Spring Racing Carnival. Imagine this. I am parked in Sandringham Village, engine running, headlight on, sitting behind the wheel with phone on hand. Its a lovely mild night. I have the window open. ... A young lady aged about 16 to 18 approaches me with a very direct, almost rude, Are you a taxi. Innocent enough. Many of you know my Silver Holden Caprice with fully compliant, traditional, VHA rego plates. To many its just a car. But in the modern world I could just as easily be subscribing to the Uber platform. But I dont. So where is the problem. This young lady was prepared to approach a man she did not know in a fundamentally unidentifiable car. Obviously she would have got in had I said yes. Parent please dont let your daughters do this. And now for the political statement. Our current State Government has watered down the regulation of Commercial Passenger Vehicles to the point that this very young lady would have gotten into a car with anyone, the unscrupulous included.
