24.01.2022 Camp Widow Australia will take place in Brisbane on the weekend of May 15/16, 2021. One of our most frequently asked questions about Camp Widow is: I don’t know anyone and feel nervous about coming on my own, will there be other people also attending solo? As our President Rebecca Adams explains in this video, YES! You will not be alone and our team will be doing everything we can to make you feel at ease. We can’t wait to welcome you to this incredible event and connect you with other young widowed people who understand and ‘get it’. For more information about Camp Widow Australia or to buy your ticket visit www.firstlight.org.au/camp-widow

22.01.2022 I don’t grieve just for the moment my loved one passed. I grieve the past, the future, and the now. A human being is more than just one moment in time. #griefquote #youngwidow #firstlightwidowedassociation
21.01.2022 CAMP WIDOW AUSTRALIA speaker announcement: ‘Tips that get me through’ with Kate Nuttall. Kate candidly shares her story of her loss and shares how her community has helped her along as she adjusted to being a widow and a 'single mum'. Kate has some interesting learnings on her own biases and adjustments since Tim's death as well as interesting reflections on her children's adaptability. Kate’s session focusses on seven practices (or tips) that she found (and still uses) for t...hose days when you feel like everything is on top of you. These practices have helped bring calm, energy and strength to keep moving forward when your life is crazy busy, complex and when if feels unfair. Don’t worry, Kate won’t make you share or speak if you don’t want to, but you will get the most out of this session if you have a go at some of the exercises. Tickets are still available to Camp Widow Australia in Brisbane on May 15 and 16 but they are selling quickly. For more information, visit www.firstlight.org.au/camp-widow. We hope to see you there. #campwidowaustralia #campwidow #youngwidow #youngwidows #aussiewidow #firstlightwidowedassociation #widow #grief #griefsupport
21.01.2022 Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australian adults under the age of 44, so it's no surprise that many of the young widows in our community are navigating this complicated and traumatic grief. In this episode of Widow Talk, we discuss the complexities of suicide bereavement: blame, anger, and feelings of guilt, as well as the stigma that surrounds suicide and mental illness. https://youtu.be/_W8cqY50KFQ
18.01.2022 Navigating grief can be the hardest thing you ever have to do. And to make it worse, the person you usually lean on to get through the hard times - your person - isn’t here to help you. But you are not alone, there is a community of widowed people here who understand. We are walking the same path beside, ahead and behind you. We get it. https://www.firstlight.org.au//join-our-community-become-/ #firstlightwidowedassociation #deathsucks #youngwidows #aussiewidows #aussiewidow #youngwidow #holdontohope
18.01.2022 WIDOW TALK: Lara Ryan shares her experience of losing her wife Elise in 2016 before same sex marriage was legalised in Australia, and her journey since - raising their two daughters, accidentally going 'viral', creating awareness about the importance of same sex marriage and finding her story resonated with supporters from around the world. https://youtu.be/lolMOxU57lI
16.01.2022 Pooh woke up that morning, and, for reasons that he didn't entirely understand, couldn't stop the tears from coming. He sat there in bed, his little body shaking, and he cried, and cried, and cried. Amidst his sobs, the phone rang. It was Piglet....Continue reading

14.01.2022 Congratulations Tricia Gerigk, winner of our New Zealand getaway raffle. Thank you to everyone who supported the raffle and helped First Light continue to support young widowed people. Thank you also to our generous sponsors Air New Zealand, Erin Ross - Personal Travel Manager, Solo Parents Travel Club and Anzcro who each donated elements of the prize.
12.01.2022 My newly widowed friend, I often wondered why I spent so much time sitting on floors right after John diedand now I think it was my body’s attempt to keep my spirit as grounded as possible. As close to the Earth’s density as it could. We sit on floors. And we mimic being human. We make the sounds we’re supposed to. Our faces do human things. And we eat human food. And we mimic. This is what newly widowed people do.@ https://grounseling.com//a-few-words-for-the-newly-widowed/
12.01.2022 Thank you for the support, 9 News Queensland
11.01.2022 "I’ll admit it. Before I was widowed, I judged those who dated post-loss. I’d read about a widowed person finding new love and then calculate just how long it had been since his/her spouse died. Now that I’m in their shoes (and thanks to more people talking about widowhood), I realize no amount of time whether 3 months or 3 years means they’re over the loss. I swore I’d never open my heart to love again because that would mean I no longer loved my late-husband. Was I ev...er wrong! I’ve learned loving a new man doesn’t mean I’ve stopped grieving. It doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten the man who held my heart before he did. It just means my heart has expanded and has allowed in more love." https://youngwidowedanddating.com//08/unlearn-about-grief/
09.01.2022 Wow! We’ve been run off our feet at our Bunnings sausage sizzle today! Very grateful for the support. We’re here until 3pm if you want to grab a snag or two.
08.01.2022 "It is a common misconception that funerals need to be held immediately after a person has passed away. You can choose to postpone the service if you wish to. Cremation can also be arranged without any funeral service and the ashes kept pending a later funeral or memorial service. If you have recently lost a loved one and are not holding a funeral service immediately or want to include others who are unable to attend, here are a few alternate ways you could honour your loved ...one beyond a traditional in-person service." 06.01.2022 Meet the First Light management committee: Deanna is our amazing treasurer and all round, one of the kindest people we know. The only member of our team who isn’t widowed, Dee generously shares her time and skills with us to serve our community because she just really cares about helping people. In her spare time she also fosters animals for the RSPCA. We’d be lost without our ‘spreadsheet guru!’ It’s also Deanna’s birthday today so please join us in thanking Deanna for ser...ving on our team and sending big, big love her way! #qldvolunteers #firstlightwidowedassociation #volunteer #qldcharity #nfp
