16.01.2022 Here are the most common questions I have been asked about restrictions being renewed today and my own plain English answers in my own words. 1. ‘Is this a tw...elve month lockdown’? No. Renewing the State of Emergency continues the ability to extend basic restrictions past mid September, including the power to keep us safe by isolating Covid-19 positive people, wear face coverings and limit numbers at gatherings. It is NOT extending stage four restrictions. That is legislated under ‘State of Disaster’ not ‘State of Emergency’ powers. Enforcing social distancing and limiting the spread of this virus will end this crisis and get us back to work and school sooner. 2. ‘I was told this is extending stage four lockdown and it will give the Premier uncontrolled power’? No, it isn’t, and no it doesn’t. We are extending the ‘state of emergency’, which we have operated with since March and will need in the near future. It simply means the Chief Health Officer will have the power to enforce social distancing and mask wearing. If you want to, you could think of it as ‘state of emergency’ legislation being stage 3 and ‘state of disaster’ legislation which is not being changed as being related to stage 4. 3. ‘Will this increase the current ‘lockdown’ or change the restrictions in place’? No. It renews existing health directions protecting you and your family from covid and the people who refuse to wear masks or isolate. The virus isn’t going to just disappear next month, until we find a vaccine we will be dealing with it in one form or another. 4. ‘Why aren’t other states in a state of emergency’? They are, just like Victoria. Basically, most other Australian states have legislation that allows them to renew a state of emergency an unlimited number of times to enforce people to wear masks and isolate. Victoria’s legislation does not allow for this and expires in September, even though we will still need people to wear face coverings and take precautions. To be consistent with other states we need to change this and extend the state of emergency, just like they have. For context, whilst Victoria just needs the power to ensure people wear masks, where necessary, Western Australia currently have the power to make every person in quarantine wear an electronic monitoring bracelet. 5. ‘When will kids go back to school?’ Extending the state of emergency legislation does not determine when kids go back to school. That decision will be made, as it always has been, based on the Chief Health Officers advice. 6. ‘What’s the alternative to renewing the State of Emergency’? Not great. We will have no restrictions to protect our health workers, our community and you from this deadly virus. Frankly, we will have no restrictions to protect you from those who don’t care about spreading it, those who don’t believe that COVID exists and those who just don’t care that your family members could become ill and die. In my opinion, all our hard work will be undone and our cases will skyrocket. This is about saving lives and keeping people safe, nothing more, nothing less.

14.01.2022 The finished products, we hope you love them as much as we do
