18.01.2022 Why an injury can take a long time to heal?

17.01.2022 When your shoulder was painful, how many people told you that you might have a frozen shoulder? . Its the easiest diagnosis for someone to give. When youre in pain it can be hard to move your shoulder, but does that mean it is frozen? . Not necessarily. So what is it?... . Frozen shoulder otherwise known as adhesive capsulitis is a condition associated with a global restriction in shoulder movement. It can be painful, your shoulder can feel stiff and these symptoms usually begin gradually and worsen over time. . So what actually happens inside the shoulder? . In a frozen shoulder the connective tissue that forms the capsule of the joint which encases the bones, ligaments and tendons actually becomes thickened and tight, which results in a reduction of movement, usually in all directions. . It is unknown why this actually happens, but it is more likely to happen with people between the ages of 40 and 60, diabetics and also to people who have immobilised their arm for long periods such as after surgery or a stroke. There are also some additional risk factors. . Unfortunately in its worst form it may take up to 2 years to make a complete recovery, however some people are left with residual stiffness. . Treatment can usually involves taking medications, steroid injections, hydrodilation, or Physiotherapy. In some instances surgery may also be performed. . Importantly, the end goal is restore movement and increase the strength of the muscle tissue surrounding the affected joint capsule. . Even though the recovery can take time, it is important to preserve movement and maintain strength as the natural healing process takes place. . If you suspect you may be feeling the onset of a frozen shoulder, it may be worthwhile to seek advice from your Physiotherapist. . Were happy to help. . Have any questions? 14.01.2022 Your Pain, Your Emotion Have you ever stopped to think that when you are in pain, it can sometimes make you sad, frustrated or even angry? . Or what about the other way around?... . Have you noticed that when you are happy and positive, you may not feel your pain as much? . Many studies have shown that pain affects your emotions and your emotions affect your pain. . Pain and your fear of pain may lead you to avoid further physical and social activities. In turn that could break down relationships, affect your mobility, which can then lead to more pain. . So why is it important to understand this? . Your emotional state can make your pain better or worse, so when it comes to recovering from an injury or managing chronic pain, what surrounds you, your attitude, your lifestyle choices, and relationships all can have an influence on your recovery. . Everyone is different and its not always easy. . If you feel challenged in your recovery, reach out and speak to a health practitioner you trust. Help is always at your fingertips. . Let the small changes be the inspiration for bigger and better outcomes. See more

14.01.2022 What is scar tissue? When we damage muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons in our body, the body naturally tries to heal, and it tries to do this as quickly as possible. How does it do this?... The body lays down thick, fibrous tissue called collagen which replaces the damaged tissue, and it usually does this in a random, criss-cross fashion. Normal Collagen is aligned in specific directions in order to give it strength and normal mobility, but what about scar tissue? In order to function to your potential, scar tissue needs to tolerate the stress and forces applied to that area. SO...this is why restoring range of motion, strength and mobility is so important. What will help? The scar tissue needs to be remodelled. This can be facilitated by using methods such as massage, cross-friction massage, myofascial release, stretching and even massage which can be assisted by using special instruments. These techniques can all be performed by your Physiotherapist. Need help? Dont be scarred for life. Ph: 8123 0987 Link in Bio.

11.01.2022 3 Reasons Why Youll get Injured when Training...

10.01.2022 What is core stability and why is it important?? In today’s world, many people misconceive what the core actually is and generally only think of the abdominals or 6 pack muscles. However, core stability is much more than that, it is the ability to control and stabilise the trunk while the upper and lower limbs are moving during functional activities. Our core strength actually comes from many groups of muscles working together that include:... - Hip stabilisers - Almost all of our torso muscles, not just the abdominals (muscles on the front, sides and back of our torso) - Shoulder stabilisers Why is the core important?? The core itself has 2 main roles: 1. Protecting the spine from excessive loads 2. Transferring force between our upper and lower bodies. To most everyday people, that means that having good core stability will allow us to complete our normal every day activities with greater safely and be at a lesser risk of injury. In regards to athletes or people participating in regular sport, they require a greater level of core stability as their activities become more demanding and carry greater risk of injury. There is current evidence that suggests that a lack of or inadequate amount of core stability (in relation to the task being performed) increases the likelihood of injury. And as a result, core training now has become of great importance for both athletes and everyday people that are in physical jobs or repetitive jobs.
