25.01.2022 Although 1 in 4 women will experience a miscarriage at some point in their lifetime, it is often a topic which is avoided. As it is not talked about, going through a miscarriage can be an incredibly isolating experience. We believe education is key to dismantling this stigma. If you are in the position of supporting a woman after a miscarriage we recommend: 1. You acknowledge their loss 2. Create a safe space for her to talk & grieve ... 3. Offer practical support See more

22.01.2022 Are you struggling to fall pregnant or to carry a pregnancy full term? If so, couples in NSW can take advantage of a government rebate to help them try to understand the cause of their fertility problem. The $500 rebate is part of a four-year initiative that helps subsidise out of pocket expenses for pre-IVF fertility testing. The one-time payment can be claimed following a GP or specialists request for four key tests including an Anti-Mullerian Hormone test (ovarian reserve); a pelvic ultrasound; an ovulation test; or semen analysis. 21.01.2022 Today we are not only celebrating all the wonderful fathers out there but also those men who are currently going through their journey towards parenthood. To those who are still on their journey, we understand how difficult today is and we hope you are surrounded by those who love you. With that in mind, here are some ways to support your partner this Fathers Day 1. Ask him what he would like to do for Fathers Day - Let him know you have his back and that youll support... whatever he wants to do, regardless of how it makes other family members feel and that youll field the phone calls and texts for him. 2. Make it a couples day - Why not do something for yourselves? Remind him of all the reasons why you love him. 3. Or perhaps offer him some time alone See more

19.01.2022 Save this post and share it Sometimes when loved ones experience heartache it can be difficult to know how to properly support them. To help you navigate through this difficult time, here is a simple guide for what to say and what not to say when a loved one has experienced a miscarriage. Please note everyone is different and it is always important to listen to the individuals involved and be guided by them.

19.01.2022 #fertilitytip Diet and exercise play an important role in both male and female fertility health. We recommend following a sensible diet and exercise plan both while trying to conceive, and for women, during your pregnancy. To produce good quality sperm, men should try and maintain a healthy body weight and do regular exercise. A diet rich in lean proteins and fresh fruit and vegetables is also recommended. Women who are either markedly underweight or overweight may have trouble conceiving. This has been illustrated by published studies which have shown that a 5-10% reduction in weight can make a significant difference to your fertility health. A healthy and balanced diet is also important.

19.01.2022 Did you know the days leading up to, and including, ovulation are the most fertile days in your menstrual cycle? If you are trying to conceive, one of the most important factors to understand is when is the optimum time each month for conception to occur. Identifying when ovulation is naturally occurring, is the first step to a successful pregnancy outcome.

13.01.2022 What does infertility mean to you?

12.01.2022 Maintaining a regular exercise routine and healthy diet is very important both before and during pregnancy. Regular moderate exercise for an average of 30 minutes per session at least three times per week is recommended. For both males and females a healthy, balanced diet rich in lean proteins and fresh fruit and vegetables is important. Additionally please note men need to keep in mind that sperm is produced at slightly below body temperature, so it is important to exercise at a sensible pace and not overheat the body. Share some of your favourite recipes or ways to exercise below!

12.01.2022 Even miracles can take a little time. We believe in you

12.01.2022 As approximately 40% of infertility cases are caused by female factors, it is important to acknowledge female infertility and its causes. The following are four common causes of female infertility. Visit our website for more information * Age * Age is one of the most important indicators of your chance of conceiving. Once you reach 35, your fertility begins to decline as your ovaries age.... * Weight * The further away you are from whats considered within your normal weight range, the higher the likelihood of problems arising when trying to conceive. Ideal weight is determined by what is known as the body mass index (BMI). The formula is your weight divided by your height squared (BMI = kg/m2). * Irregular menstrual cycle * Irregular periods can suggest that ovulation is not occurring every month, making it difficult to identify the fertile window. If your periods arent regular, it is a good idea to talk with your GP or one of our specialists. * Medical Conditions * Some medical conditions which could influence your fertility include (but are not limited to): - Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) - Endometriosis - Blocked fallopian tubes - Premature menopause - Insulin resistance - Thyroid disorders - Genetic problems

12.01.2022 As approximately 30% of infertility cases are caused by male infertility factors, it is important to educate yourself on male infertility and its common causes. Four common factors which can contribute to male infertility include. 1. Structural abnormalities in the sperm This is where either the shape or movement of the sperm stops them finding or binding with the egg.... 2. Sperm production disorders This is where the sperm count is reduced or non-existent due to testicular failure or total obstruction. 3. Lifestyle choices Certain lifestyle factors (such as smoking, consuming alcohol, using recreational drugs, overheating the testes etc.) may influence your fertility in a negative way. 4. Other factors These include: - Ejaculation issues or failure to achieve an erection - Hormonal problems - Genetic problems - Immunological disorders or other health problem Visit our website for more information or call 1800 111 373 to learn more https://www.firststepfertility.com.au/fer/male-infertility/

07.01.2022 After a long year, the festive season can be challenging in many ways, especially if you are trying to conceive. As there is no 'right way' to tackle the holiday season we have compiled the following list of tips to help minimise your stress levels! 1. Choose alcohol-free drinks With new research showing the consumption of alcohol affects both men and women's fertility, we recommend opting for alcohol-free options.... 2. Plan ahead for events It is totally acceptable to be selective with the invitations you accept, especially if Christmas is an emotionally challenging period for you. If you do decide to attend a function we recommend being ready to respond to question by preparing some answers to common intrusive questions beforehand. 3.
