24.01.2022 How’s your weekend so far? Our participants had heaps of fun with the activities on Saturday

22.01.2022 Supporting disabled people to live ‘normal’ lives First things first: there’s really no such thing as a ‘normal’ life. By referring to people with disabilities as not having a ‘normal’ life, we imply that they themselves are not normal, which is of course completely untrue. ‘Normal’ looks different to each individual on the planet. ... So when we talk about supporting disabled people to live ‘normal’ lives here at First Support, we really mean that we help to level up the playing field so that disabled people can achieve their own personal life goals their own idea of ‘normal’. What does ‘normal’ look like? For some people, this might mean they need a wheelchair, walking frame, or a specially adapted car to get around. Being independently mobile opens up new opportunities and possibilities for education, employment, and recreation that people without such disabilities take for granted. Others may require help with tasks of daily living, like washing or dressing, or behavioural and emotional support to help them deal with the challenges of their disability. It starts with defining your life goals: At First Support, defining a disabled person’s ‘life goals’ is an important part of creating a personal care plan. Working with the disabled person and/or their nominated representative and the NDIS, defining life goals helps to determine the kinds of supports needed to achieve those goals. Of course, life goals can change over time, so care plans are reviewed each year to evaluate the supports currently received, and perhaps identify new ones needed going forwards. Care plans created, implemented and delivered: Whatever is needed to help a person with disabilities to achieve their life goals, First Support is here to support every step of the way. As an NDIS-approved care provider, we can not only help develop care plans, but we can also provide many aspects of the supports that might be identified during the process. We also help disabled people and their families to access a range of capacity building services, including community support, educational and training opportunities, and practical help with every day tasks like managing NDIS funding. With our experienced team comprising over 100 care professionals from across the spectrum of the care industry, First Support can support people with disabilities, and their loved ones, through their care plan, even in cases of multiple and complex needs.
