25.01.2022 :: Provocation patterns :: Our philosophy is quality does not need to be expensive. We encourage educators and services to re-think their resources and provide them in new ways. Here are some old stones from the garden, recreated into different patterns and provided with small figurines (this is only half the display). This was the first thing the children saw as they entered the room, encouraging creative thinking and in-depth conversations about each pattern. So come on,... lets go back to basics. #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting #BackToBasics

25.01.2022 For those that are looking for great PD our good friends at Phoenix Support have this great offer. Head to their page, like it, share it and tag.

25.01.2022 ::Appreciation Wednesday :: What a busy few days it has been. Canberra to Wagga to work with some amazing educators with an amazing colleague, and back to Canberra to hear the amazing Sandi Phoenix and Dr Louise Porter behaviour masterclass tomorrow. Networking, collaborating, reflecting and growing. Thats what Early Education is about.... If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting #BackToBasics

24.01.2022 :: Simple Monday :: We didnt invent pegs or cardboard, but we thank those who did for providing simple provocations and resources for childrens learning and development. #BackToBasics #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting

22.01.2022 If you get a chance, go see our good friend Jennifer present on Exceeding the NQS.

22.01.2022 We love mixing the old with the new. Up cycled pieces add character, a homely feel and are also sustainable. Whats your favourite up cycled piece in your service? #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting... #BackToBasics See more

22.01.2022 Love it when a project comes together. Not long now until the grand opening.

21.01.2022 :: Sandy Saturday :: There is no age restriction for getting wet and muddy. There is a lot for children to explore when given the opportunity. Lets get back to basics.... #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting #BackToBasics

20.01.2022 Proud to be apart of this project. Thanks Vegepod and Dr Kate Neale for allowing us to collaborate on a great project!! https://www.gardenclinic.com.au/how-to-/meet-dr-kate-neale

19.01.2022 :: Throwback Friday :: We post this every year and sadly every year it seems like this is occurring more and more. We work hard to support our teams, so that they have everything they need to do the most important thing ever, playing with the children. There are lots of opportunities out there. Do not stay at a place where you are being mistreated and your rights are not being provided. Also ensure you know your rights and entitlements under the award or agreement that you are employed under.

19.01.2022 Starting conversations around sustainability brings out some creative ideas. An old cot, flipped up, decked out with comfy cushions, fairy lights and soft toys makes a beautiful soft space for children to escape.

18.01.2022 To add to our post from yesterday. A new park, a new challenge.

16.01.2022 :: Art Show Saturday :: Yesterday I had the privilege of visiting a local art show put on by a local non-for profit centre. Every year the amazing educators work with the children to put together amazing artworks which then go on display for the entire community to view. This is the true meaning of valuing the abilities of young children. It is truly amazing and the educators show so much passion and value for the education of young children.

15.01.2022 :: Upcycle Wednesday :: Educators were uncertain about what to do with some spare pallets. We had an idea. Pallets and ply make a great stage. Add curtains and dress ups and the children spent the afternoon putting on different shows. Musical instruments, puppets and props would also be a great extra.... #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting #BackToBasics

15.01.2022 :: Imagination Tuesday :: This photo is a great example of how children think. Too often adults portray their thoughts and ideas, without realising and accepting what children have accomplished on their own.... So let them be and lets get back to basics. #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting #BackToBasics

14.01.2022 :: Two-Week Tuesday :: What a busy two weeks to wind down towards the end of the year. Melbourne, Perth, Canberra and Sydney, all in the last two weeks to visit different services. A mix of old and new, of modern and eclectic. There is never the same job twice.... It was a pleasure working with the crew at Offspring Education for all our resources. Lots more projects lined up in the near future. Bring on 2019 (and the rest of 2018). #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting

12.01.2022 ::Sunny Sunday :: Our Sunday afternoon consisted of family, friends, homemade pizza, wine, laughter, children and mess.... It is important to really take a break and enjoy your weekends, as through the week, we have the most important job of all. Educating and caring for the children in our services and in our lives.... How did you spend your Sunday? #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting #BackToBasics.

12.01.2022 Those looking for a great PD around childrens behaviour, do not miss this opportunity. Book now to secure your spot. https://phoenix-support.com.au//children-s-behaviour-maste

11.01.2022 :: Simplicity Sunday :: Climbing up slides seems to be a ongoing debate amongst Early Childhood educators. But why? Safety seems to be the number one concern, with some educators thinking that children will go down feet first, straight into the upcoming child. While this might happen, the logical reasoning to stop this happening would be to teach a child to look before they go down, which has a great potential to alleviate the risk. If we teach children to acknowledge their ...surroundings and who/ what is within these surroundings, then we teach children to be safety aware within these surroundings. We talk about open ended resources, so why dont we extend this thinking to slides and encourage children to use it in a multiple of ways. #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting #BackToBasics

11.01.2022 :: Critical reflection Sunday :: Through social media and emails, one of the biggest questions we receive is how do you show critical reflection. This is also evident on social media Early Childhood pages. So let us share our thoughts.... Critical reflection is not copying someone elses ideas and integrating that into your service. Critical reflection is a honest discussion with your staff, children, families and community about the service. Really focus and get guidance on what is working, what is not working and how the service can improve. In terms of displaying ideas, be proud of critical reflection. Admit to areas that you could improve and highlight the ways you can do it. Nobody expects perfection, but everyone expects honesty. So be honest, think simple and lets get back to basics. #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting #BackToBasics

11.01.2022 Before and after.. #useeveryblock

10.01.2022 :: Simple Monday :: Why do we feel the need to spend so much on resources? I know, because we as educators and adults often feel bored seeing the same resources day in day out. However, quite often the things we take for granted are brand new for young children. So have a think and lets get back to basics, offering things that we are used to but is magical for them. #BackToBasics.... #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting See more

10.01.2022 ::Tower Tuesday:: Have you ever tried building on mirrors? It creates a visually appealing world under the world, where towers look double the height and we see things from different perspectives. Simple but effective learning experiences dont require fancy or expensive resources. Lets think out of the box with what we have and lets get back to basics.... #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting. #BackToBasics.

10.01.2022 :: Manipulative Monday :: Have you ever thought of adding blutac to a table with different small manipulatives? Thats what we introduced to a group of children today and with no intent behind, it was great to see what the children came up with. We also added counters and small stones, and together with paddle pop sticks, new ideas, concepts and conversations were created.... What new thing did you try today? #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting #BackToBasics

07.01.2022 :: Gruffalo Sunday :: Exposure to literacy, even at the youngest age, can create a love of reading and learning in later years. Choose books that are age appropriate and allow young children to explore the pictures, turn the pages and simply handle books.... Never too young! #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting #BackToBasics

07.01.2022 :: Template Thursday:: Coming into the holiday period, Facebook is full of cute, educator lead art ideas. Our question is who are they doing it for?. Why do we feel the need to dumb down childrens art for something an adult can understand . If educators truly valued childrens art then they would provide time, resources and opportunities for children to express their ideas.... The below examples show a respectful childrens art exhibition, that values the work of children and their ideas. How do you respect children and the art process?? #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting #BackToBasics #StopTheElfOnTheFrontDoor #StopTheElfOnTheShelf

07.01.2022 This week, Early childhood educators and teachers across the country will go into early learning services, preschools and schools where they will interact with children of essential workers who could be exposed to COVID-19. They will not be given face masks or protective clothing. They wont get free coffee, half price pizza or special shopping hours. They will perform their jobs in ways they have never done before and they will do it with a smile on their faces so that the c...hildren in their care dont know how scared they are; Scared for those children. Scared for their own. Scared of being responsible for taking the virus home to loved ones. Thank you to all Educators, Teachers and anyone else heading into a early learning centre, preschool or school this week to keep it running so that our amazing health workers and carers can take care of the sick and the vulnerable, our shops can stay open and services can continue. You too are heroes! *Copy & paste to show appreciation for all Teachers & School Support Staff continuing their duties at this time* See more

05.01.2022 We are advocates for professional development and to show this, we are proud to be sponsoring not 1, but 2 spaces for the De-Liberate conference happening this year. So click on the link below and we look forward to seeing you there.

04.01.2022 Important to remember !!

03.01.2022 :: Learning areas Sunday:: We love setting up new areas for children to play with. Did you know, thats one of our specialties? Too often we see that educators are bored with the resources they have, not the children. Learning to use resources in multiple ways, is not only sustainable, but encourages educators to be more resourceful and creative. How do you use your resources?

03.01.2022 :: Finally Friday :: Wow what a big week to see us into the long weekend. The team visited 7 services in 5 days all over the Sydney area. But thats not all we do. Melbourne, Tamworth, Byron Bay and Perth are all locked in for the next few weeks. Existing services, New services and everything in between. We can support you.... Have a great long weekend. #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting #BackToBasics

02.01.2022 Picture 1-Although we would prefer the tree, we like the educators making the best out of the situation. Picture 2- up-cycling in all its creative glory. #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting... #BackToBasics See more

01.01.2022 :: Real Friday:: Even the youngest children need real life experiences. Tools can be incorporated at any age, as long as the right introduction is achieved. Here is a 20 month old exploring the ins and outs (pardon the pun) of a tape measure. So lets trust children and lets get back to basics. #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting... #BackToBasics See more

01.01.2022 :: Travel Thursday :: It was amazing to network and collaborate with a centre in New Zealand. We only took limited photos due to the constant talking and the photos we took do not do it justice. Its amazing what we can achieve when we share and listen from others.... Never be afraid to network, because at the end of the day, we are all here for the education of young children. So share your ideas, listen to others and constantly reflect. #BackToBasics #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting

01.01.2022 :: Project Sunday :: Look at this great planter box! It was made from recycled timber that was laying around and is on wheels with pipe drainage. This one was purposely built high, however a shorter version would be perfect for an Early Childhood service and the wheels make it easy to transport to different areas of the play yard or even to the inside area.... #FirstYearsEarlyChildhoodConsulting #BackToBasics #CleverFatherinlaw
