25.01.2022 Veg wash shed deconstruction. Twenty five days after @cobargobushfires . Active fires still burning in our region. @ Fishbone Farm
25.01.2022 #roebuckfork and insect exclusion net already in use. Thanks F.D. Ryan and Ryset Australia
25.01.2022 First zucchini, so very early for us! Not growing in a poly tunnel, growing uncovered, outside. Started in nursery (protected) then planted under crop fleece in the ground, but crop fleece has been off for a week now. Friggin ah! Zucchinis are on!!! #cantbelievewearelookingforwardtozucchinis #farsouthcoastnsw
24.01.2022 Today - Steve brought us a generator to run our fridge and 400 litres of water with stainless steel tank! Sharon brought us fresh food! And Nicky sent us more ...fresh food via Sharon! They all brought us support, hugs, comfort and hope. These people are legends! They have all been spared from fire thus far and they all have fires still burning close by. #communityresilience See more
24.01.2022 Want more connection with your food? A community in Brisbane is reducing their carbon footprint by embracing a local, seasonal food system, which supports farmers in their region and reduces food miles.
24.01.2022 Broad bean grew two inches after the rain #waterislife
23.01.2022 Its so frickin dry right now on the far south coast. It seriously hasnt rained for months and months and months! But despite the dry @fishbone_farmertim did something right! Look at these beauties!! @ Fishbone Farm
23.01.2022 Luscious and chemical free DILL, CORIANDER, LETTUCE, SILVERBEET, CELERY, ENDIVE, BOK CHOY at Fishbone Farm gate. 72 Barlows Road Cobargo. Help yourself, bring cash, honesty box at gate, bring your own bags. Yay for spring rain!
22.01.2022 Came home from safe burnt-out Yowrie this morning to find that our house survived the second round of fire risk. Its raining. Our camp shower will be a treat tonight filled with boiled ash-contaminated water. Things we wish we had right now - generator, jerries for water, petrol, diesel, gravity water in a concrete tank with metal fittings, off grid solar with battery and various other survival stuff. So much grief and loss around our region and also cooperation and sharing. Far south coast NSW hasnt finished burning and most say its only a matter of time. Our hearts are aching for those who lost everything, our close friends included. And our gratitude is with the CFA, RFS and all those who stayed home to defend their properties. Tiny glimpses of blue sky and bird sounds are filling us with hope.
20.01.2022 For all of you that might be interested in our local food system, Kate Raymond from SAGE in Moruya wrote a great article about the "hungry gap". Check it out. http://sagefarmersmarket.org.au/facing-disappointment-in-a/

18.01.2022 This is a pic of our last cauliflower for the season, what a beauty We haven’t kept planting records from January till now. Took a break after the fires cause we’ve been growing veg only for us. So from memory we planted these caulis as seedlings in early March and started eating them in mid June. We planted about ten and it kept us in caulis all winter. So we have had some good rains and you could say the drought may be over. Today we started setting up drip irrigation again. Buying rolls of plastic pipe is a mind fuck after pulling out burnt plastic pipes in February, but if we wanna grow to sell again that’s how it goes. Record keeping must start again too. This market gardening gig is bloody hard work, we must be a little crazy!!! At least we eat well
17.01.2022 Sunburnt #watermelon
17.01.2022 Cut the broad bean green manure crop today as it was starting to flower. Need to hoe it in to the soil next. #biomass #feedthesoil #greenmanure
16.01.2022 We buried 22 chooks today. The most brutal thing about loosing chooks to foxes is how they kill them but dont eat them, so all of the chook is left behind. Its the first time, in six years on this farm, that we have had a fox attack. We were away for the weekend and maybe they knew? And maybe it was windy and the electric fence came down a little somewhere? And maybe the fence wasnt well enough set up when we left cause we moved it a little to give them new ground... Its dry and hungry times here at the moment and Its a sad day today... #cycleoflife #farming #hardtimes
16.01.2022 Last day for this week Fishbone Farm goodness at farm gate. Super fresh and seasonal assortments. Come early if you can, it’s been selling out fast. Bring cash, there’s an honesty box at the gate, and a bag or basket. 72 Barlows Road Cobargo. Quick before the rain!
15.01.2022 Here’s some pics of one of our dams. Pic one, @fishbone_farmertim walking in empty dam. Pic two, the tracks left after a fox dragged away a massive dead eel that’s lived in the dam for years and years and years. Pic three, brown long grass at the top is where the dam water reaches when it’s full. #drought @ Fishbone Farm

14.01.2022 Think twice before you spray your veggies, even with eco-insecticides. It seems to us highly likely that beneficial insects will decline before the pest insects, which will put agriculture under greater pressure #loveyouraphids #globalinsectdecline

11.01.2022 Recovery is slow. We’ve started cleaning up the big shed. Started at the front where it’s easy. The tractor is in the back part. Not there yet. Most of our spare time at home is still spent walking around staring blankly at the fluro-green grass. #postbushfiredaze @ Fishbone Farm
11.01.2022 Time to start taming the wild market garden??? @ Fishbone Farm
09.01.2022 Theres too much to tell and Ill write a more detailed post later. But so all my family and friends are somewhat reassured, Tim and I are ok, for now. Our house is miraculously standing in acres of burnt landscape. We are not currently there but we did go and see our house today. Theres a very dangerous day forecast for the whole area on Saturday so we are still having to make hard decisions moment by moment. Tim took this photo of me in our burnt out paddocks. Big love to you all
08.01.2022 Slowly recovery begins. Green grass where thousands of litres of water fell from melted water tank. Burnt power poles being replaced on our property and in the distance on the dairy next door. We might not have power for some weeks yet, but its underway. Blessings on all the disaster management crews! #cobargobushfires
08.01.2022 Fishbone farm is doing a Cobargo Saturday Market stall tomorrow morning. We will have plenty of variety and wed love you to swing by and say hi! Our marquee will be set up in the drive way of the old tea rooms white and green shop, next door to Lifes Little Pleasures. See you then

07.01.2022 And today we were the grateful recipients of a bushfire donation from the legends at F.D. Ryan tools and Ryset Australia. No excuses now to tame the patch! #marketgardening #handmade #handmadetools #cobargobushfires #legends @ Fishbone Farm
07.01.2022 Its taken years of sacrificing crops to aphids to build up populations of predatory insects but I think the balance is finally turning. This is a pic of ladybirds feasting on aphids on a daikon leaf. Last week I thought I should do something about the aphids or just pull out the daikons, but this week the ladybirds have kicked in! Theres heaps of them and their larvae, one of which you can see in this pic up near the top. So I picked a leaf with heaps of ladybirds on it an...d put it in a tub with a lid, took it up to the house and put the daikon leaf on the lime tree which has aphids on the new tip growth. I hope they do their thing and multiply! Theres new alarming research suggesting that the worlds insect populations are falling to dangerously low levels. This makes me sad. This obsessions humans have with killing insects needs to stop. We need to reeducate and change the status quo. Make insects your friends and stop using toxic poisons to kill them. #ladybirds #benificialinsects #chemicalfree #organic #nature #weboflife #predators #growyourown #eatclean #entamology See more

07.01.2022 There are many local funds to donate to, so many locals in need. But for our family and friends who have been asking us directly if they can help us, heres our fundraiser. You can also private message us if you want to direct deposit. In gratitude x Thea and Tim, Fishbone Farm, Cobargo https://www.facebook.com/donate/842222179554252/?fundraiser_source=external_url
06.01.2022 We grow most of our crops from seed, many we direct sow but some we plant seeds in a nursery and then plant seedlings in the ground. Its more work and time to grow from seed but we love the propagation aspect of growing plants. #slowfood #prickingout #celery #propagation #growyourown #seeds #uncommodifyingfood
