22.01.2022 *PUBLIC NOTICE* Council would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the public, for their contribution toward the fight against the Covid 19 virus.... Based upon risk assessments, Barunga West will introduce the opening of its public playgrounds using a staged approach. Playgrounds will require an initial integrity inspection and the installation of public hygiene protocols and responsibility signage, prior to opening. Social distancing requirements must still be maintained by all users, and gatherings of 10 or less children and adults at any one time, until further declarations are made by State and Federal Governments. It is anticipated one playground on the Port Broughton Foreshore and Fisherman Bay, will be operational by end of week.

18.01.2022 I have been advised that bottles have been broken in the Eastern Playground (adjacent the boat ramp), and whilst the broken glass has been cleared by volunteers, there is still the possibility that there is some glass in the sand, and represents a danger to users. Please use the Western Playground until the area can be properly clean. Thanks. Frank Smith

02.01.2022 **COVID-19 RATE RELIEF** While we understand that for some ratepayers it will be business as usual, Council is concerned about the impact the COVID-19 pandemi...c is having on our local economy, local businesses and those people who have lost their jobs. In response to the impacts of COVID-19, at this month’s meeting Councillors decided that there will be no increase to general council-set rates and charges for the 2020/21 financial year. Councillors also decided to implement several immediate measures: Ratepayers can arrange to pay their rates weekly, fortnightly or monthly based on an amount that suits their budget Ratepayers can apply to postpone the payment of rates for 6 months (between 1 March and 1 September 2020), without having to pay any fines or interest Ratepayers who are experiencing financial difficulty due to loss of income can apply for a part or complete waiver of general rates (between 1 March and 1 September 2020) Ratepayers can apply once they have received the fourth quarter rates notice, which will be by early May. You will be able to apply online or by calling the Port Broughton office on 8635 2107. For more information please go to Council's website https://www.barungawest.sa.gov.au//councils-covid-19-rate-
02.01.2022 *Media Release* Snook Road Nature Walk enhanced with new signage A Fisherman Bay walking trail known as the Snook Road Nature Walk has been upgraded with new s...ignage and marketing materials with the aim of attracting more nature lovers and bird watchers to the area. The Barunga West Council has commissioned the design and installation of a series of signs across the walk showcasing local flora and fauna, as well as an informational brochure. Barunga West Council Mayor Leonie Kerley said the project was part of a wider tourism push in the area. We are working to ensure the Top of the Yorke region is well-equipped to attract new tourists, whatever their interests, she said. Something as simple as clear signage and well-executed informational materials can make a big difference ensuring that everyone who comes to visit the area can make the most of their stay. The Snook Road Nature Walk is known for its abundance of native birds, including the stunning Great Egret, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Rainbow Bee-eater and more. The area is also a critical habitat for marine life, with mangroves providing a nursery for prawns and other species. We understand the importance of celebrating and protecting the unique native species that call our district home, Mayor Kerley said. We encourage local families and tourists alike to get out to the trail and explore our pristine natural landscape it’s like nowhere else in the world. We hope these new signs and brochure will guide you on your walk and help you spot local species and appreciate the natural diversity and beauty of the Top of the Yorke area.
