25.01.2022 Not many at the boat ramp around 6.00am this morning with the BOM forecasting north to north westerly winds 15 to 20 knots. More like 10 to 15 knots when I was at the river mouth around 7.00am. Not a lot of swell on the bar. Mostly wind driven slop and chop. Solid band of rain over the outer bay/upper North Shore area. Filmed a couple of hours before a 0.72m low tide. Background Music: 'God Fury'... by Anno Domini Beats. www.fishingnoosa.com.au
25.01.2022 Fish of the Week entry from Jim Brodie... "After a good night bagging a couple of snapper and a 45cm moses in the shipping channel, spent a long day on Saturday out around FAD 7 and a favourite little rock to score some reefies on chunks of bonito. After wrapping what would've been a PB around the fad we opted for a Hail Mary drift at another nearby fad. An angry little trevally as bait resulted in what has to be the biggest dolly ever caught by a bang average fisherman . www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm
24.01.2022 Checked out the National Park on the way home after filming the bar this morning. Fluked a park so filmed a bit of the surf action in between the odd light rain shower. Hard light to film in due to the heavy cloud cover but it is what it is. Background Music: 'Orange'... by Topher Mohr and Alex Elena. www.fishingnoosa.com.au
24.01.2022 From Jimmy Free, Noosa River Fishing Safaris... "From Saturday's charter. Rob Moore caught and released this low 50’s jack while his daughter Charlie is pictured with her mid 60’s flathead." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/riverfishingsafaris.htm
24.01.2022 Beautiful morning here in Noosa with a light 3 to 5 knot easterly breeze blowing at the river mouth. Not a lot of swell on the bar. Still a few workable sets on the Main Beach side for the board riders. Plenty of boats heading out. Birds working the bait schools out in the bay and in close near the bar. BOM forecast is for variable winds less than 10 knots inshore early. Otherwise, winds east to north easterly about 10 knots tending north to north easterly and increasing to 10 to 15 knots in the afternoon. Filmed between 5.15am and 6.55am which was roughly an hour and a half before a 2.0m high tide. Background Music: 'Sunspots'... by Jeremy Blake. www.fishingnoosa.com.au
24.01.2022 From Jason Milne... "Hi Bill - couple of teenage boys (Toby Wills and Milan Milne) needed an adventure these school holidays (which have been lean this holiday due to average weather) - last week there was a good weather window so a River to Reef plan was hatched - hit the Noosa River in the kayaks at 10:30 pm on the look out for Jacks on both live prawns and prawn lures. Toby got his 1st Jack around 2am after putting in many session for donuts. We then grabbed the boat and headed offshore looking for pelagics then reef fish. Plenty of spotty mackerel around among the big schools of mack tuna but all moving fast. The boys converted one of the mack tuna into some very tasty reef fish using small strips, lightly weighted." www.fishingnoosa.com.au

23.01.2022 A glorious morning here in Noosa with mostly blue skies and a 3 to 5 knot south easterly breeze blowing at the river mouth. Pretty much flat as a tack on the bar and in the bay so should be great conditions on the local reefs. BOM forecast is for south easterly winds 10 to 15 knots turning east to north easterly in the evening. Filmed between 6.15am and 6.45am which was roughly an hour before a 1.61m high tide. 23.01.2022 Report and photos from Trekka 2 skipper Nat Turner... "Hey mate. Had an awesome nine hour trip on Friday. Everyone got their bag limit of quality snapper, along with a couple of beautiful mahi mahi, gold band snapper, venus tusk fish, rosy jobfish and moses perch. The snapper were biting all day and happily took soft plastics, floating baits and paternosters. Conditions were great all day with light winds and almost no current. Cheers, Nat." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishingoffshorenoosa.htm
23.01.2022 Overcast with intermittent showers here in Noosa this morning. Heavy rain overnight. The bar was pretty gnarly and murky and the bay was white capping. A 10 to 15 knot+ south easterly wind blowing at the river mouth. BOM forecast is for south easterly winds 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots offshore early this morning. Seas: 1.5 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday. Swell: Easterly 2 metres. No boats out. Filmed between 7.20am and 7.30am which was half an hour after a 0.73m low tide. 22.01.2022 Fish of the Week entry from Michael Whitehead... "G’day Bill. I’ve been chasing whiting on lure for a while now and was real keen to get amongst some topwater action with the ‘poor man’s bonefish’ .. so on Tuesday morning I headed out in the yak with the MMD Splash Prawn and flicked it around the seagrass and sandy shoals in super shallow water at the start of the runout tide. This beauty, measuring a tick over 40cm, snaffled the lure from the surface and then raced all around the river for the next couple of minutes. Before I landed this one I lost a few; because of their soft mouths the trick seemed to be to ease the drag right back and just let them make those speedster runs. Happy days. Cheers, Michael." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm
21.01.2022 Ha ha. I was just about to take a photo of a deserted Gympie Terrace boat ramp around 5.45am this morning when a guy with a jet ski turned up. Ah well. Almost deserted. River looked nice though. www.fishingnoosa.com.au

Minor slop on the bar but not much in the way of swell. BOM forecast is for south to south easterly winds 10 to 15 knots turning north to north easterly in the morning. 21.01.2022 Fish of the Week entry from Dave Gower... "Hi Bill. Snuck out early this morning for a quick land based flick before the Easter Bunny duties commenced. Was rewarded for standing in the rain near the Munna Point Bridge with my PB Jack, 51cm. Caught on the trusty Chase Baits Flick Prawn, and boy did it take off! The guests in the house next door came down to cheer me on as this beautiful fish put on a show. A few quick photos with Jack and it swam away perfectly to fight another day. Happy Easter to me! Haha... Dave." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm
21.01.2022 Luke Strahl won the $100.00 Davo's Tackle World/ChaseBaits Fish of the Week prize with this thumper fingermark which he caught and released in the upper estuary. 20.01.2022 From Richard Bull... "Hi Bill. Fish of the week entry from Buddy Bull and his best mate Reef Hardy. Both from Eumundi. We had a night session gathering live herring and targeting jacks on Buddy's dad's boat. Both boys caught their first jacks! Biggest going 55cm! Absolute beast , joint effort from both boys to get this magical specimen on board. Kept one for the barbie, released the other. Cheers, Richard." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm
19.01.2022 Fish of the Week entry from Michael Whitehead... "G’day Bill. Wanted to get out for a fish on Tuesday before the rain came so headed out early in my kayak down to the Current Line. Just fished topwater to minimise hassle from the weed - was flicking the MMD Splashprawn right at the top of the tide near the rocks up from the Sand Bags when this beaut mid 40s Bluefin Trevally smacked the Splashprawn at speed. My first Bluefin Trev, amazing colours .. happy days. Cheers, Michael." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm
19.01.2022 At the river mouth around 6.15am this morning, Monday November 30, 2020. A little bit of smoke haze but not too bad. A light 5 to 7 knot NNW breeze blowing at the river mouth. 18.01.2022 Fish of the Week entry from Shane Hackett... "Hi Bill. We took the kids down to the Frying Pan on Saturday afternoon with some yabbies for bait. It was a bit quiet, with a few rain squalls, then suddenly these two whiting hit Emmy and Leilani's lines almost simultaneously. They measured 39cm and 36cm. Cheers, Shane." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm
18.01.2022 Overcast with a bit of rain moving across the outer bay this morning. A light 3 to 5 knot WSW breeze blowing at the river mouth. Plenty of fresh in the system now and more to come. Not much swell on the bar but a bit lumpy on the horizon. Some small workable sets for the foil and long boarders over towards the rock groyne. 17.01.2022 Wow! Hard to tell where the smoke haze stopped and the cloud started this morning. Light to moderate north westerly winds and a Fraser Island bushfire the cause of the air pollution. Clearing as we speak. A steady stream of boats heading out. Little or no swell on the bar or in the bay although some boaties still managed to find the odd wave to play on. Should be a corker day. Filmed between 5.55am and 6.30am which was roughly an hour before a 2.13m high tide. Background Music: 'Asleep with the Sun'... by Unicorn Heads. www.fishingnoosa.com.au
17.01.2022 Young Harlen Harrison was so pleased with himself when he hooked and landed this thumper 40cm whiting in the lower estuary on Sunday that he headed straight into Davo's for a photo so he could enter the Fish of the Week competition. He was armed with a 'Tackle Rat' spin combo loaded up with a live yabby. www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm
16.01.2022 Report and photos from Trekka 2 skipper Nat Turner... "Hey Bill. We ran nine hour charters up to Double Island Point on Friday and over the weekend. The bottom fishing was tough with a strong northerly current and sharks making things interesting and some areas unfishable. Regardless, we still managed to land a few quality pearl perch, venus tusk fish, moses perch and Maori cod. We also spent a few hours trolling around the pinnacles at D.I on Sunday and managed a handful of longtail tuna on Halco deep divers. Cheers, Nat." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishingoffshorenoosa.htm
16.01.2022 Fish of the Week entry from Tim Lawless... "Hi Bill. We fished northern Sunshine Reef this morning, heading out just after first light. The first few hours was slow, with plenty of undersize red emperor, but once we moved to Inner Sunshine we managed to land a feed of tusk fish, pearl perch and this 110cm yellowtail kingfish which Finley caught on a bottom bashing rig. We think it went for a squid bait... squid on bottom hook and pillie on top hook. Paternoster rig. Cheers, Tim." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm

15.01.2022 Went out early and checked out the river and boat ramp. Not many out. Spotted three guys fishing the Munna Point Bridge around 5.30am where I filmed the prawns and a few trevally schooling the other morning. Stopped for a chat on the way back from filming the bar around 6.30am. They had three trevally in a bucket taken on live biddies. One of the lads, Troy Beitzel, was happy to hold up a couple for a photo for the FOTW Comp. Apparently a few tailor bite offs as well. They weren't going to be fishing there again this week so were more than happy to share the spot. :) www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm
15.01.2022 Still blowing hard at the river mouth this morning. Strong wind warning in place. Overcast and dreary to boot. Fluked a park at First Point on the way home so walked around past Little Cove to the National Park and filmed the surf action on the points. BOM forecast is for east to south easterly winds 20 to 25 knots, reaching up to 30 knots offshore north of Maroochydore in the late evening. Seas: 2 to 2.5 metres. 14.01.2022 Local angler Barry Evans was fishing off the rocks at Alexandria Bay late on Monday afternoon when his cunjevoi or sea squirt bait was taken by this 2.6kg painted sweetlip or morwong. "I was so excited. It was the biggest fish I have ever caught off the rocks or beach. Very stoked.'... said Barry. Too late to get to Davo's he put his catch on ice and popped in first thing this morning for a photo and an entry in the Fish of the Week competition. www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm
13.01.2022 Fish of the Week entry from Josh Dodd... "Hi Davo. My name is Josh and I just arrived from England and I am now living here with my family. I went fishing on Saturday for the first time at Lake Macdonald and me and my 7 year old brother caught 15 bass with our dad which we let go. The biggest one was 47cm which was excellent fun to pull in. This was my first fishing in Australia and now I am hooked! Cheers, Josh." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm

13.01.2022 Not as wet and wild as yesterday but still overcast with the odd spit of rain. Looks like it's on the improve though. A bit dark early on so delayed heading for the river mouth until about 7.00am. No boats heading out. A 12 to 18 knot south easterly blowing. Tide: An hour or so after a 1.98m high tide. 12.01.2022 A bush fire on Fraser Island and a 10 to 15 knot northerly meant a smoky morning at the river mouth. Wind driven slop and chop on the bar and in the bay. Didn't look too exciting for the smaller boats. BOM forecast is for northerly winds 15 to 20 knots, increasing to 20 to 25 knots during the late afternoon and evening. Filmed between 6.10am and 6.20am which was a couple of hours before a 0.71m low tide. Background Music: 'Marigold'... by Quincas Moreira. www.fishingnoosa.com.au
12.01.2022 From Jimmy Free, Noosa River Fishing Safaris... "Hey mate. We’re back on deck. Had a trip on this morning. We fished the Woods Bays. Caught a couple flathead there. Heaps of surface action but didn’t respond to bait. Would be worth while being there early with some poppers or pencil lures casting through them. We went up Weyba to escape the northerly. Caught plenty of bream for the kids and some quality whiting as well. Pictured is Margaret from Beachmere with her 85cm flathead which was released safely after this quick pic. It went for a whole whitebait." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/riverfishingsafaris.htm
11.01.2022 Cloudy with a 12 to 15 knot north westerly blowing at the river mouth this morning. Only one small boat headed out while I was there. 10.01.2022 From yak angler Jason Milne... "Hey Bill. Happy New Year! Before the weather blew up again we hit Sunshine Reef three days in a row looking for Spanish, trolling dead baits. Water was still very green so was not overly hopeful as cleaner water was a long way out. Fortunately we found plenty of bait and a few nice spotty mackerel hanging with them. Also found very fast moving small longtails happy to take a slug if you could get a cast in before they disappeared. Unfortunatel...y the taxman was present on all three trips, one trip losing a very nice Spanish to what we assume was the 6' tiger spotted earlier and then a 1.5 hour tug of war, all the time half knowing but half hoping for a more rewarding catch, only to find a Big Bully was the reward and an extra 2km added to our paddle home. Snapped the leader to dead bait rig once we identified what it was. Paid my taxes in advance this year now so fingers crossed... no more." www.fishingnoosa.com.au See more

Winds tending south to south easterly 10 to 15 knots in the early afternoon. On the w...ay home spotted some good surface activity on the Weyba side of the Munna Point Bridge. Prawns being chased by the odd trevally. Just started to film it as a guy in a surf skiff power paddled through the middle. 09.01.2022 Report and photo from Cougar One skipper Mitch Bertacchini... "Hey Bill. We did a five hour trip to Sunshine Reef on Tuesday morning. Conditions were a bit average with 5-10 knot south east wind and a strong current from the north making anchoring a chore holding the boat backwards into the sea but we did the best with what we had and caught a few nice cobia, venus tusk fish, moses perch, sweetlip and mahi mahi." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/bluewater.htm
08.01.2022 Fish of the Week entry from Dave Simpson... "Hi Guys. Been following your archives for many years and never entered a fish before. From Brisbane but a regular angler and surfer since childhood to the area since the 80’s . Caught and safely released this beautiful (est. 70cm) Dusky at the Sand Bags late Friday arvo on the turn of the tide, throwing poppers around in the pouring rain and wind. Sorry, couldn't get a shot of me with the fish (my iPhone didn't like my wet fingers) and wanted to get it back in the water as soon as possible. Cheers guys, Dave." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm
08.01.2022 Report and photos from Trekka 2 skipper Nat Turner... "Hey mate. We fished up around Double Island Point on Monday’s nine hour trip. The fish were biting all day, which made for a pretty good looking esky. We caught a heap of quality gold band snapper, some big venus tusk fish, pearl perch, moses perch, mahi mahi and snapper. Conditions turned out to be pretty good with about 10 knots of easterly wind and a slight current. Cheers, Nat." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishingoffshorenoosa.htm
08.01.2022 Another stunning morning here in Noosa. A solid bank of low lying sea mist over the upper North Shore but otherwise blue skies. A light 3 to 5 knot north westerly breeze blowing at the river mouth. Not a lot of swell on the bar crossing but some nice little sets between the groynes for the board riders. Heaps of grommets in the water this morning. Everybody having a wonderful time. A steady stream of boats heading out. 08.01.2022 THE MACKEREL SONG. Back in the day. Ha ha, never imagined I'd say or write that line. Anyway, it's coming up to my 72nd birthday next week and I was reminiscing about my early days of kayak fishing. I keep assuring people that I'll get back out there (I will Dave, trust me) but while the body is still willing, the mind is busy with other things....Continue reading

07.01.2022 Report and photo from Grant Budd, Davo's North Shore Bait and Tackle... " Hi mate. Went out to Sunshine Reef on Monday morning just after first light with Mick Hardcastle from our Noosa store. The one target was a Spanish. I spent the previous afternoon making up some stinger rigs for big garfish. After a few hours of slow trolling my gar got smashed by this beauty at around 8kg. We also had a small black marlin whip my gar off and follow my rig in which was great to see up close. Great conditions and an easy bar crossing. Cheers, Grant." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/davosnorthshore.htm

06.01.2022 Fish of the Week entry from Richard Wielaard... "Hi Bill. I am Paul's support worker and am writing this on his behalf. Paul, in the photo, caught this whiting off the beach opposite Zachary's on Gympie Terrace. Paul, due to his condition, is not able to throw in, so I did this for him. Paul did the rest. Paul has several medical/health issues, one of which is which is a degenerative muscular disease. Paul is by far the oldest person in Australia to be still alive with this c...ondition. It has left him wheelchair bound though. However, Paul is a wonderful character, who really likes to still do some nice things and who can make people happy with his smile. Yesterday, Paul really wanted to go fishing, so we went fishing. Paul caught a fish and was as happy as anyone could ever be. To be so happy and so proud is amazing and worth sharing. Paul got a nice applause from some ladies who were witnessing it. It was the nicest experience! The fish was caught and happily released back into the river. Thanks for reading the story. Kind Regards, Richy." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm See more
05.01.2022 It was raining lightly at the river mouth this morning so I opted for the shelter of the Coast Guard tower. A mix of smoke, rain and low lying cloud made for a very dull grey backdrop but it was otherwise quite pleasant with a light 3 to 5 knot southerly breeze blowing. Little or no swell on the bar. BOM forecast is for south to south easterly winds 10 to 15 knots turning east to north easterly in the afternoon. Filmed between 6.15am and 6.35am which was a couple of hours before a 1.97m high tide. Background Music: 'Sky Skating'... by Geographer. www.fishingnoosa.com.au
05.01.2022 Looking a bit overcast and gloomy at the river mouth around 8.30am this morning. Rain over on the North Shore. Tide: A couple of hours before a 0.78m low. BOM forecast is for south easterly winds 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots offshore at times in the morning and afternoon. Not a lot of swell on the bar but no boats out as far as I know. www.fishingnoosa.com.au

04.01.2022 Fish of the Week entry from Dan Lamsam... "Thank you for the advice on the colour choice for my Sugapen lure. I caught a crazy amount of fish on it. A couple of trevs, bream, flathead and so much whiting. Most off the beach on Gympie Terrace. Released all but two fish. Kept the flatty and one big whiting for dinner. And again, thanks for the great advice. Best session I’ve had in a long time. Cheers, Dan." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/fishoftheweek.htm

03.01.2022 Aerial drone footage of the stretch from Munna Point to the Noosa Bar and back. Our drone pilot was running late and pushed for time today... his wife's Birthday... Happy Birthday Kylie... so the shoot had to be done quickly. Not a lot of change anyway, so instead of editing out the slow bits I sped the whole thing up. As you do. Filmed around 12.45pm, Saturday October 17, 2020. Tide: One and a half hours before a 0.23m low tide.
