23.01.2022 Trout season opens this long weekend Today marks the official opening of the States annual trout opening, with the official opening of the States trout season... set for this Saturday, 29 September. Despite the states current dry conditions, many streams and rivers are in good condition and the spring weather and well-stocked waterways will still see fishers flocking to their favourite fishing spots. Many keen anglers are expected to head to popular fishing destinations, such as the Thredbo and Eucumbene rivers in the Snowy Mountains, Fish River near Bathurst, Goobarragandra and Goodradigbee Rivers near Tumut and Yass, as well as many other streams in the Central Tablelands and New England areas By the end of the October long weekend, more than 1.3 million juvenile rainbow trout and over 110,000 juvenile brown trout will have been released into the rivers and streams across the Central Tablelands and New England regions. Its important all anglers check they have a current and valid NSW Recreational Fishing Licence prior to fishing this weekend. Information on the NSW Recreational Fishing Fee and trout fishing rules are available from www.dpi.nsw.gov.au - Photo courtesy of Ray Tang

17.01.2022 Excellent write up below by Finz Boat Hire about the new exploiting fishing lockout laws ----- At the risk of getting political which I do not like doing on a fishing page I think its really important that fisherman fully understand the unfounded attack being lodged against them by a handful of scientists. This may or may not effect your fishing spot but if we can bring in fishing bans the way they are being proposed here then this is a scary state of affairs.... I had to listen to this interview twice (2:21:47 is the starting point). One of the supposed Scientists advising the Government on fishing lockouts. Listening to the interview I was amazed at the amount of (or lack of) evidence, the 1000 pages possibly blank that have not been published but that he has. Some of the highlight from this interview: 1. According to this scientist -"Snapper, Morwong, Bream will thrive - case closed!" - But no baseline studies have been conducted due to lack of funding to prove this. 2. No baseline testing conducted to show banning recreational fishing will help anything. 3. "Pollution and Run off is main issue - but Marine Parks wont solve this" 4."The campaign against the fishing lockouts are just fishing lobby groups" - Who does he think these lobby groups are made of - recreational fisherman. 5. "70-80% of Fisherman support Marine Parks" - yeh but 100% dont support being locked out without solid scientific evidence, which is still not available. 6. "Dog Walking - higher on the list of threats than recreational fishing" 7. "Evidence that businesses around a Marine Park flourish because of the diving industry" OK, is this with the other evidence you have? 8."85% of people dont fish" - good for them, maybe they should. With no studies, with the main issue of pollution and run off not being addressed and with recreational fishing being well down the list of threats to the environment, why are they picking on recreational fisherman? What will the lock out accomplish apart from locking fisherman out. If you havent already taken the survey on line please take the time to do it, just as we have. 12.01.2022 Planning to chase the hot tuna bite ...? The red hot tuna bite along the southern half of the NSW coast continues, with reports of multiple boats landing good n...umbers of large Southern Bluefin Tuna as well as plenty of solid Yellowfin over the past couple of weeks. Its fantastic to see such great gamefishing off our coast but DPI would like to remind anglers to do the right thing so that the outstanding eating qualities of these fish are maximised and we all do our bit to responsibly utilise and enjoy this great resource. If youre lucky enough to get into some tuna action and decide to take a fish for the table, ensure you bleed it on capture and get it on ice, or in an ice slurry, as soon as possible. Not bleeding fish and leaving them on the deck for extended periods will result in vastly inferior eating quality and possible wastage. The current run of SBT and Yellowfin all seem to be quality fish in excess of 40 kilos - with some jumbos of 80-100 + kilos being landed. A 40+ kilo tuna provides many kilos of prime quality sashimi and fresh tuna steaks. Be realistic about how much tuna you can keep chilled, process and eat. Take what you can responsibly use and practice catch & release on any other fish you hook up on. And heres hoping the tuna run continues...!

10.01.2022 The NSW Government is proposing pretty dramatic changes to Sydney waters and you need to have your say before its too late. The survey only takes a couple of minutes. Keep in mind this is only a proposal and with enough voices, these new rules will be softened or scraped entirely. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HawkesburyDP... #fishinglockoutlaw

01.01.2022 A reminder that the annual zero bag limit closure for Australian Bass and Estuary Perch in all NSW rivers and estuaries starts this Tuesday, 1 May. The zero bag... limit closure protects the fish during this spawning period to ensure they can remain a popular catch with recreational fishers for many generations to come. This season, DPI has stocked a record 429,000 Australian Bass in NSW waterways from our Port Stephens Hatchery, plus a further 89,000 fish from registered private hatcheries under the DPI Dollar for Dollar Native Fish Stocking Program.
