21.01.2022 During lockdown we are less NEAT. (non exercise activity thermogenesis). We move a lot less and we need to make it up with activity sessions. Preferably multiple short bursts a day with one longer burst. 16.01.2022 Build Strong to Nordic Curl . Hands down one of the best exercises to focus on building eccentric strength of the hamstrings. This exercise is utilised by many coaches and athletes due to is association with injury prevention, particularly in sports. ... Recent research has shown injury prevention exercise programs which include the Nordic Curl reduces the rate of hamstring injury by up to 51% (Dyk et al., 2019). This is particularly important from a strength & conditioning perspective. While the Nordic Curl is a great exercise for building strong hamstrings and preventing hamstring injuries, it is an advanced exercise and can be difficult for many individuals to complete. Below are some exercise regressions which can be used as a starting point to build your hamstring strength in a less demanding environment. You can begin with exercise 1 and gradually progress to each exercise as your hamstring strength improves. 1. Banded Nordic Curl Rollout with Swiss Ball 2. Nordic Curl Rollout with Swiss Ball 3. 08.01.2022 WINNER ! The 2nd win for the evening was for Aaron King in the Business Person of the Year. While this is an individual award, I couldn’t have achieved it without a strong and supportive team as well as a supportive family all behind me.... I’ve grown as a person and as a business owner throughout all the challenges faced. Honestly, we’ve (and many others) have been though some pretty fair challenges in business in 2020, and have been able to innovate, to leave us in a stronger future position. And I know there’s many other people also similarly strong in what they’ve achieved in the last year all circumstances considered. So I am very grateful to receive this award. 08.01.2022 Recent Update: The Crossroads Hotel Casula outbreak has been extended from anyone visited between 3rd-10th July as a staff member there has tested positive. So if you or anyone you know might have attended, they need to get tested and self isolate. Current updated rules dictate 14-day isolation even if a negative result. ... Another local gym also had a member who visited that gym recently, test positive. While anyone attending our facility may not have had contact with those areas. It would be wise to take all precautions regardless. If you have recently visited either of those spots even if you receive a negative test, we would prefer you to reschedule your session for at least a fortnight. If you are a member, we'll place your membership on hold. Again currently updated legislation by NSW Government indicates 14-day isolation even if the test is negative. If you have even the mildest of symptoms, get tested and reschedule (if required). Even if all remains negative, the best approach is caution due to the proximity of the outbreak. Keep clear at least 2m apart, continue to practice all hygiene standards. Book all your sessions in so we can manage cleaning standards, safety, and attendance. Take care.

06.01.2022 An EP is like a personal trainer with a medical background. An EP can see clients for all general health and fitness needs, as well as athletes and those who have high risk medical and lifestyle needs. Some EP’s thought it was a good description and succinct. While being understood in a way, that someone without prior knowledge of an EP would understand. Therefore you can help people. As that’s really what it’s about. (that person who thinks this way is also me!) Othe...rs think it’s doing a disservice. (I don’t that it is, it’s the opposite). It shouldn’t be about the ego of the professional, in providing a long winded description of all the medical training, which just leaves the person confused and therefore won’t see you for help. I understand the want to promote our profession and themselves, and that’s great. Although, promoting by creating an understanding in the way the client is listening is most important. 05.01.2022 The "When and Why" of Protein Powders. Whey Protein Isolate: Highest quality powder (90% protein -the rest are fats or carbs), also highest price. Best taken after training as release is quicker. If you plan to use one protein mainly after exercise, then you can take this. It also has the highest bioavailability of all the protein types. Whey Protein Concentrate: High quality, 80% protein (remainder are fats and carbs), excellent value for money, great all rounder protein. If... you just want to bother with one version, then this would be it. Most people wouldn't notice a major difference between WPI and WPC. Casein Protein: Around 80-85% protein. Slowest release version, means it's well suited if you are trying to reduce overall daily calories as it's likely to be "filling" the longest. You could use this as part of a meal replacement or reduction strategy. Also suitable to consume in the evening, instead of a dessert if aiming for calorie reduction. If if you don't wish to use it as part of a calorie reduction, and looking to maintain or build muscle, use this as a night time protein to "work while you sleep." Pea/rice blend plant protein: Typically lactose & gluten free. Best to find a mixed plant blend as these are more likely to have the full amino acid profile most similar to an animal protein (whey). Take this as an alternative if you require lactose or gluten free or prefer a plant protein over an animal based one. Mixed with either milk or water depending upon your strategy & goals. If you mix it with water, start with less water (200ml) before topping it up (another 50-200ml) to your preferred consistency. If you use milk, consider the calories from the milk, Even so, a small amount of milk + powder might still be better than your "snacks" and give you enough fullness , resulting in less calories overall. Milk will add calories but also provide thickness and taste. Start with 250ml milk then add a little at a time till you're happy. One of my preferred methods is 200ml milk and top up with water for a half version. WPI > WPC > Casein is the order of "thickness". meaning you may need less liquid with WPI but more with casein for the same consistency.
