23.01.2022 Problem feeders and fussy eaters can be hard work! There are many steps to tackle meal time challenges, but a key message is this; Remove the power struggle! ... Throw out your childhood rule book and let your children play and explore with their food (*1). Offer choices and avoid the urge to ‘force feed’. Take some time to breathe and enjoy the experience. If we’re stressed, they’re stressed and appetites can be suppressed (*2,3); not very helpful at mealtimes if you ask us! There’s plenty that an allied health professional can do to help and many Occupational Therapists who will be happy to enjoy some messy food play with you! #fussyeating #messyplay #sensoryplay #explore #mealtime #playwithyourfood #development #occupationaltherapy #ot #georgesriver #hawkesbury

04.01.2022 Play is an extremely important component to a child’s development. Not only is it a fun way to learn, it has many important characteristics that are crucial for a child’s development. The study below shows the effects of social play activities on the play behaviour of children with autism. The study explored the effects of utilising four social levels of play; isolate, dyadic, group and team. Based on the findings in the study, it suggests that further emphasis on the recrea...tion and play curricula needs to be considered in order to benefit individuals with autism. OTs are great at improving a child’s social skills and development in these areas. If you are unsure if your child is socialising appropriately, please contact us. #westernsydney #georgesriver #hawkesbury #therapy #occupationaltherapist #occupationaltherapy #privatepractice #socialskills #play #playtherapy #ot #yourlocaltherapist See more
