20.01.2022 Happy Birthday Siobhan from Gemma and the Team. Have a great day and hope you get spoilt rotten

20.01.2022 Today we had the pleasure of meeting Anne. Anne fractured a bone in her foot over 8 weeks ago and has been in a moon boot ever since. She has lost muscle tone and strength in her foot as a result. Today we was able to introduce an exercise regime for the next 6 weeks to get her back on her feet.... We also introduced our new Toe Gizmo / Toe Tensometer - designed by Joseph Pilates himself. The toe Tensometer is used to help you build strength in your feet and in each individual toe. Believe it or not, when you are working out your toes, you can feel your glutes and core working, too. Anne experienced this herself today as she noticed her inner thighs were activated whilst doing some basic toe exercises. These toe Tensometers can be used daily and to be successful in the treatment and management of bunions. For more details contact one of our team members to find out more.

17.01.2022 Although I have a modern and cosy clinic, I will never get tired of volunteering with the Homeless. I started my volunteer work as soon as I graduated 20 years ago. I still remember it to this day. It was Boxing Day in London - it was so exciting, so many like minded people all trying to do their bit in this world. And here I am 20 years later in Perth. Heres to another 20 years Thank you @ Perth, Western Australia

17.01.2022 1.MEASURE YOUR CHILDS FEET There are many ways to measure your childs feet. If you have the money you can invest in a size gauge those nifty foot measuring devices you see in shoe shops and save yourself some hassle. Otherwise, an effective shoe size guide is to place your childs foot on a bit of A4 paper. Push their heel up against a wall and sketch around the foot as best you can. Sorry guys, but we highly recommend measuring both feet as nearly all children (and adul...ts too) have differently sized feet. Its also worth measuring your childs foot towards the end of the day with socks during this process. After all, theyll likely be wearing them with whatever shoes you end up getting. 2. LEAVE SOME WIGGLE ROOM At FITFEET, we say that a thumbs width worth of room at the toe end provides the perfect amount of wiggle room to give your childs feet room to breathe and grow without swamping their foot. This can be a tricky balance and if youre not sure, just ask. Like any relationship, communication is key so check with your child about how comfy they feel in their shoes. 3. WEIGH UP THE SHOES MATERIAL AND DESIGN. When it comes to researching types of shoes, its about more than their fit. Comfort, safety and flexibility can all be ticked off by doing a bit of research on your desired shoes: look at what theyre made of, how theyre made and how malleable they are. As a general rule, canvas and leather shoes are much more appealing than their rubber or plastic cousins. Evidence shows kids shoes should be breathable and flexible to support growing feet. The soles should also be flexible. A supple rubber sole is a good bet because they grip well, meaning your little one wont fear slipping over. Once upon a time, a shoe that ticked these boxes would be ugly as sin. But luckily, style doesnt need to be sacrificed anymore. Kids shoes can be both comfortable and stylish. 4. KEEP TABS ON GROWTH Finally, its about paying close attention to your childs growth. Kids often grow in spurts, which means that one year they might be able to make do with one pair of shoes, yet the next theyll be going through two or three pairs. It may sound obvious but this is a good time to evaluate your kids sock sizes as well. All your hard work finding them a perfectly fitting shoe can be undone with constricting socks that can interfere with healthy foot development. Because of this unpredictable growth pattern, its a great idea to do a thumb test every few weeks to check theres still a bit of room left at the end of your kids shoes. When the thumbs width gap becomes a little finger-width, its time to go hunting for a new pair of shoes and at this point, the four-step cycle begins anew.

11.01.2022 Just a little series I worked on today for better hip disassociation ( freedom of the hip joint I like to think ) and pelvic stability. Essential for healthy lower limb function 1. Elephant - helps develop trunk stability (teaching the legs to move without the torso needing to help too) developing core strength, and to improve hamstring flexibility and activation. 2. Scooter - This is a fantastic exercise which improves hip stability, glute, leg strength and improves balanc...e. 3. Pelvic curl - Performing this exercise routinely can strengthen glutes, abs, and reduce lower back pain. It can also help improve posture, and improve bladder control. 4. Pelvic curl with leg lifts - as above + helps with toro stability, working unilaterally and hip strengthening.

09.01.2022 We would like to Welcome our new Align Wunda Chair to our Wanneroo Clinic. The ‘wunda’ part of the wunda chair comes from the word ‘wonder’, and it can certainly do wonders for you. The wunda chair is particularly useful for stability and flexibility exercises, as the chair and its structure provides better support for the body. The Wunda Chair comprises a stationary seat and a foot pedal; resistance varies with differing spring settings. Beginners will find many basic exerc...ises on the Wunda Chair that increase strength, awareness of alignment, and balance. In general, the Wunda Chair is good for working the weakstrongweak sides of the body. It is important to realise that, although a client might present, for example, a bad ankle, any injury is rarely so isolated. Particularly when working with clients in rehabilitation, an instructor who begins to look closely will see that the presenting ankle problem is often linked to other patterns of dysfunctional alignment. Injury in one particular place will often be related to weakness or overuse in another area of the body. 05.01.2022 Mobilisation and Chiropractic treatment ! What is it and how can it help with my feet ? The common goal of all chiropractic treatment is to restore or enhance joint function, with the result of resolving joint inflammation and reducing pain and restoring function. ... A chiropractor will likely use manipulation to correct any subluxations, or misalignments, in your spine, neck, hips and feet. The most frequently used spinal manipulation technique is called the high-velocity low-amplitude thrust. Before the adjustment, the patients body is placed in a specific position to optimize the adjustment of the spine. This manipulation often results in an audible pop or cracking sound as the chiropractor uses his or her hands to apply a controlled sudden force to a joint. However Chiropractors are highly skilled to use use very gentle and specific techniques to mobilise and restore small joints such as the joints in the foot and ankle. Here at FITFEET we have the pleasure of working with Dr Saba Beyond Chiropractic. One of our lovely patients ( and one of my favourites ) Ron suffers from a painful foot condition that requires treatment every 4 weeks. Elderly feet do not move as they should and often become rigid, tight and painful. With just one gentle treatment Rons feet were feeling so much better and his joints moved more easily when he walked out

05.01.2022 The number one contributing factor to developing bunions is incorrect foot wear A bunion is a painful bony bump that develops on the outside of the foot at the big toe joint. Bunions are often referred to as hallux valgus. Bunions develop slowly. Pressure on the big toe joint causes the big toe to lean toward the second toe. Over time, the normal structure of the bone changes, resulting in the bunion bump. This deformity will gradually increase and may make it painful to we...ar shoes or walk. Anyone can get a bunion, but they are more common in women. Many women wear tight, narrow shoes that squeeze the toes togetherwhich makes it more likely for a bunion to develop, worsen and cause painful symptoms. In most cases, bunion pain is relieved by wearing wider shoes with adequate toe room and using other simple treatments to reduce pressure on the big toe. Having the right foot wear is the number 1 treatment before any other options should be considered. See more

04.01.2022 Meet Tim, our Kung Fu expert and Fireman. Tim came to see us with Chronic foot pain and was diagnosed with Ankle Posterior Impingement (Os Trigonum Syndrome) Posterior ankle impingement is an uncommon problem that results from activities that utilize excessive pointing of the toes (or straightening of the ankle), most commonly dancing and ballet. Posterior refers to the back side of the ankle. Impingement means to collide, impact, smash or strike, and can be related to pinc...hing, especially in this context. There are two locations and three types of ankle impingement. This problem can occur in the front of the ankle or in the back of the ankle. Although the more common type is in the front, it is related to past ankle sprains or fractures. Posterior impingement is more often associated with overuse. Usually, patients with this problem have an anatomic variant called an os trigonum, which is some extra bone behind the ankle bone. This bone can become inflamed and rub against some tendons and even cause tendon tears. Symptoms of posterior ankle impingement include: Pain with activity, not at rest. Pain behind the ankle but in front of the Achilles tendon. Pain when the ankle is bent down or straightened. Tim has committed to a 6 week foot and ankle strengthening programme and is almost pain free

04.01.2022 Lets give Barbara a LIKE ! This lovely lady was sent to us by her new GP as she had suffered from a Scoliosis for many years and was in her words "In excruciating Pain every single day. She had been to multiple Specialists and was under a pain clinic along with a nice concoction of meds. We were her last hope ! With an XRAY ordered by one of our Podiatrists to measure the accurate length of her limbs, an inexpensive shoe modification and weekly Pilates Classes Barbara is now ...Pain Free with the occasional twinge and is OFF ALL medication So what is a Scoliosis ? A Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that occurs most often during the growth spurt just before puberty. While scoliosis can be caused by conditions such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy, the cause of most scoliosis is unknown. About 3% of adolescents have scoliosis. Most cases of scoliosis are mild, but some spine deformities continue to get more severe as children grow. Severe scoliosis can be disabling. An especially severe spinal curve can reduce the amount of space within the chest, making it difficult for the lungs to function properly. Children who have mild scoliosis are monitored closely, usually with X-rays, to see if the curve is getting worse. In many cases, no treatment is necessary. Some children will need to wear a brace to stop the curve from worsening. Others may need surgery to keep the scoliosis from worsening and to straighten severe cases of scoliosis. Signs and symptoms of scoliosis may include: Uneven shoulders One shoulder blade that appears more prominent than the other Uneven waist One hip higher than the other This is just one of the reasons I LOVE MY JOB ! Keep it simple they said !
